  • You can get 4 litres of Heinz Tomato Sauce for just over $4 on the Amazon Warehouse every now and then

thanks - that's cheap, but ketchup ≠ sauce, and 4L is too bulky for me :)

        ketchup ≠ sauce

      • What in your opinion is the differences ?

        • Heinz ketchup is like the best I've ever tasted. It's more thicker than tomato sauce

        • Ketchup has more sugar while tomato sauce is mostly tomato base from what I know so for healthy wise tomato sauce is first choice but not everyone cares

        • Ketchup's got vinegar in it and sauce doesn't

  • Is Amazon matching another retailer for the Vitasoy Unsweetened UHT Almond Milk 1L offer?

    • Coles

  • Yes just got four litres of almond milk. The Kan Tong recipe sauces on sale too for $2.50 each so added a few of them too. Saves me getting to Coles for the almond milk special this afternoon, I have a couple in pantry to keep me going till it arrives from Amazon.

  • These are the 2 items on my list but don't think I will be around Coles today

  • Is soy or almond milk actually healthy? Which one is better for you, they both seem very processed. I don't mind the flavour of either just not sure if they are genuinely a healthy milk alternative

    • +2

Soy and almond milk are both plant-based milk alternatives that can be a good choice for individuals who are lactose intolerant, have a dairy allergy, or follow a vegan or plant-based diet. Both types of milk have pros and cons in terms of their nutrient profiles and processing.

Soy milk is made from whole soybeans and is a good source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. It is also naturally low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Soy milk is a good alternative to cow's milk for individuals who need more protein in their diet, such as vegetarians and vegans.

Almond milk, on the other hand, is made from ground almonds and water and is lower in calories and fat than soy milk. It is also typically fortified with vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin E, which are important for bone health and overall health.

Both soy milk and almond milk can be a healthy milk alternative if chosen wisely. When purchasing, it is important to read the label carefully to ensure that the milk is fortified with key nutrients and does not contain added sugars or other additives. Choosing unsweetened varieties is a good option.

However, it's important to note that both types of milk are processed to some extent, and some individuals may prefer to consume less processed foods. In summary, soy and almond milk can be healthy milk alternatives if chosen carefully, and the choice between them ultimately depends on individual needs and preferences.

        individuals who…follow a vegan or plant-based diet

Vegans shouldn't be consuming commercial almonds - the crops are pollinated by rented livestock trucked thousands of kilometres around Australia. (They should also avoid avocados, macadamias, blueberries, and best check that their apples, pears, and cherries weren't made with animal exploitation.)

        https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/oct/18/meet-…

the 15 million honeybees onboard the Monsons’ truck are among 1.5 billion bees that have been travelling thousands of kilometres around the country as part of the annual pollination season. Each August these creatures – classified as “livestock” by the tax office – are shipped throughout eastern states to service the centres of Australia’s rapidly expanding $1bn almond industry as part of the country’s largest livestock movement.
…The rental price of bees jumped 20% this year, as almond growers faced competition from other crops including avocados, macadamias and blueberries – which flower at the same time.

And it's not just the issue of animal exploitation:

The European honeybee used in commercialised beekeeping operations overseas and in Australia is an introduced species that outcompetes native bees – in size and sheer numbers – threatening endangered species of native bees, which are already struggling to survive in a climate changed world.
“Whenever you take a hive of honeybees into a native area you’re taking at least 50,000 mouths to feed which is just massive competition with the native insects, bees, small birds and other pollinators,” says a native bee expert, Dr Megan Halcroft.

If they really care about humane treatment of animals, they should grow and milk their own almonds.

Soy milk is probably the closest in terms of nutritional value as it has good protein.

I use this almond milk on cereals and in smoothies as its much lower in cals than milk, and because I'm trying to reduce my dairy intake for a variety of reasons.

      • Yeah I feel like alternating soy/almond/dairy is probably smart for a broad balance? Good point about soy and protein

  • UHT for plant-based milks!

  • This Almond Milk would not be Bobby approved.

  • Last time I ordered soy milk from amazon but they just cancel it without any email notification.

  • ketchup oos :'(

  • Ketchup received 31 March. Expiry 1 April..
