Anyone Remember Melbourne Bar & Bistro in Melbourne CBD?

I used to love that place in my late teens. Down the stairs underground on the corner of Bourke and Elizabeth Streets in the Melbourne CBD.

  • Buffet all-you-can-eat Chinese food and chips for $6.90 from memory
  • Cheap jugs of Coke
  • Video games.
  • Pool tables.
  • Drunks entertaining us with loud obscenities at the licenced bar just a few feet away.

Right under Pizza Hut when they had The Works going also. Anyone else remember it?

We called it 'MBB'. Sadly missed.

Comments

  • Used to be $3.50 all u can eat, but food was average to poor quality
great place to eat when drunk

  • Maybe the Pizza Hut upstairs was $6.90.

Haha yes, the food wasn't Conservatory quality or even Smorgy's but okay for the bunch of kids that we were.

  • Yep. Next to the maccas and the red rooster

  • Totally random topic but I used to work there between 2000 - 2004 AMA

A few reasons why food quality was subpar
    * Chef's used to smoke whilst cooking the food before opening
    * Some of the food was just reheated from the day before and mixed in with the day's food
    * Ingredients never go to waste even if it was accidentally dropped on the floor
    * We'd always be on the lookout for cockroaches and get them before they snuck out onto the floor.
    * Health inspectors would normally receive fat envelops

    • +1

      receive fat envelops

I read that as fat eneloops. For a moment I thought I might become a health inspector.

  • the stuff served only just qualified as food.
that red rooster though…..wow. gave me the most violent stomach runs
