  • Siiiccckkk! Friends were recommending this to me last night. Read some reviews and everyone said it's good on switch but should wait for a sale. Here it is. It's meant to be

Is the anniversary upgrade worth it? Never played Skyrim before.

    • I found it so buggy I got a refund

        Really?

I have played it through ~9 times overall. PS3, PS4, PC a bunch and switch.
Genuinely feel as there were no MORE issues than ay other platform had and think the game plays very reliably on the Switch (For a Bethesda game)

Seeing as a potato can run Skyrim better than the switch, and it's cheaper to purchase on a potato, you could go the potato version instead. That is unless you really want the hand-held experience. The same goes for Doom.

      • I got Eternal the other week for 11/12 bucks on Steam Deck. Not even the cheapest handheld option lol. Hell, take it a step further and stream via xCloud.

      • If one were to play a game like Skyrim, you’d play it on something like a steam deck minimum. I think there’re great MMO like RPGs on the switch like Diablo series. But Skyrim is not it. The hardware requirements are too much to ignore so yes… Skrim tends to look like potato on the switch.

Plays absolutely fine on switch. It’s an old game.

        • It will run on lots of devices but handhelds are a category unto their own.

Doom Eternal on a Nintendo? That game's rated R18+ - doesn't Nintendo have a policy of not allowing those kinds of games?

  • Why are people still buying Skyrim?

    • +14

It's the latest mainline Scrolls game.

  • +1

Disappointing they never gave Eternal a physical release.

  • How’s the motion control on Doom?

  • I have never played Skyrim… Does it play well in handheld mode on switch or would it be so significantly better on one of the other platforms that I shouldn't bother with the switch edition?

It plays well on switch but to be honest a big pull of Skyrim is the ability to apply mods to customise your experience and add more value.

Obviously the biggest range is for PC but Xbox and PS versions also have a built-in mod browser, whereas I don't believe Switch supports any except the ones that were incorporated into Anniversary.

Ive found the switch to be by far the worst platform to play any multi platform games unless you simply NEED to have it portable.

      • +1

Depends on the game. Witcher I agree, looks crap. Skyrim I didn’t feel like there was much of a compromise. Portal runs great too, not much of a compromise there either. Same goes to Hades. Persona 5 is a bit meh though. So yeah, really depends.

And it’s not about needing to have it portable. It’s about wanting to have it portable.

        • For me I find the Joycons to just be awful for any game that requires both sticks, its so awkward to swap between the right stick and the buttons.

          • @PiratePete1911: Can’t speak to the stock joycons. I use the Hori Split Pad pro and it’s not been a problem.

Played pretty well on switch, i didnt have any issues or lag.
If you want it portable its pretty darn good.

Plays perfectly on handheld mode on switch. I played 80 hours of it handheld.
