Office 365 Stacking Personal with Family

My Office 365 subscription is due for renewal and from my understanding, it hasn't been cancelled yet. I now wish to purchase 2 x Office 365 personal subscription from SaveOnIT, add them to my account and then add a family subscription from SaveOnIT to upgrade all of the years to family.

Can the family year be purchased from SaveOnIT or do I need to buy that directly from Microsoft?

Should I first cancel my family subscription first before I try the stacking method?

For some reason my Office 365 subscription renewal is $90 instead of $129… SaveOnIT is $94 for a family subscription. I would only be saving money if I can buy personal first and then upgrade the personal to family by purchasing one year of family.

Thank you

  • I've recently done what you are wanting to do yourself. Yes you can buy the subscriptions from Save IT and apply them to your MS account.

I can't recall exactly what I did to begin with, as I too already had a Family sub. I might have waited until the day it expired (thus I had no active subscription, but there's a period of time where all your files etc remain) then applied the Personals followed by a Family sub.

    • Thank you for sharing your experience and for confirming I can get the family subscription from SaveOnIT.

  • You would need to cancel the family or wait until it expires, if it’s anything like stacking Xbox gold then converting to Xbox ultimate.
As if you apply now, it would use a different exchange rate and you will lose out on days (when applying a lower tier sub to a higher one).

Btw, I didn’t know you could do this with office subs. Where’d you read about this?

    • Thanks. I ended up finding a way to cancel the family subscription. Once cancelled, I activated two personal subscriptions first before activating the family subscription last. It was a success as the subscription was automatically upgraded to family.

I read about it awhile ago on OzBargain. It's discussed in this recent deal which has a link to a comment explaining it further

Yeah I saw that but stacking method was easier for me

    • What happens if I cancel the subscription before the due date?
Would it immediately cancel then I lose the sub immediately? Or will the subs run until the expiry date?
