Welcome to the ultimate guide of Microsoft 365 subscriptions

No VPN needed. Requires Apple Türkiye ID.

I know many of you use Microsoft 365 applications and OneDrive for storage and since Australian prices are pretty ridiculous, I had to find an alternate solution (and I did - TR pricing is 91% off AU pricing). This is probably an error, as it's not meant to be this low - and what's the catch? You only get these prices by subscribing via the Microsoft OneDrive app.

If you don't know what Microsoft 365 is, then it includes Access to the latest updates, Multiple devices and platforms, Ongoing technical support, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Microsoft Editor, Microsoft Defender, Clipchamp, OneDrive Clound Storage, Microsoft Family Safety, Microsoft Teams, Access (PC only), Publisher (for PC only), Microsoft Forms & Skype. Most of these features are unavailable for the Standalone Office Home & Student Bundle

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google Drive, Disney, relocating to Turkey is sometimes the best option, with some methods saving over $100 AUD a year (Praying for Türkiye right now IYKYK).

As always, credits to Pricebeat for all the Apple ID related knowledge I've gained from his past posts

All prices in this guide are current as of 19 September 2023.

You can see all the features of the three tiered Microsoft 365 plans here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/buy/compare-al…

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. Before proceeding, make sure you DO NOT have an active Microsoft 365 subscription

This guide looks extensive (because I try my best to explain it simply for beginners) however if you've done this before then it shouldn't take you more than a few mins (for iOS at least) as you can skip most of these instructions

Part 1 - Turkey Apple ID

If you already have a Turkey Apple ID, proceed to Part 2

If you DO NOT have a Turkey Apple ID:

  1. Create a Turkish Apple ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com/account

  2. Follow the onscreen steps. In the mobile number section, use your Australian mobile number (Very important to use a valid number or risk losing your ID). Choose the country as Turkey. Then follow through the rest to create your ID.

  3. Login into Apple ID on a browser. Go to this link to enter a Turkish address (you can get a random address here) to your Turkish Apple ID. Select payment method as "none" and save.

Part 2 - Loading your Turkey Apple ID with Turkey Apple Gift Cards

  1. Buy TL (₺) iTunes gift cards (Make sure you only buy Turkish ones, only comes in 25 TRY and 50 TRY denominations) from TurGame > Choose currency as TL/TRY See how and pay with a debit/credit card (use a card that has no international transaction fees to avoid the any extra costs). All transactions will have a certain "Payment Partner Fee" attached - at checkout, choose "Credit or debit card - PAYTR" for the lowest payment partner fee (it's very small)

  2. Go to Settings on your iPhone/iPad > Your Name > Media and Purchases > Log out from your current ID and login with your Turkish Apple ID

  3. Redeem iTunes gift cards by going to App Store > Account (located at right top corner) > Redeem gift cards or code.

Part 3 - Downloading OneDrive

  1. Once signed in with your Turkish Apple ID, download OneDrive from the app store. If you already have OneDrive installed using your Australian Apple ID, proceed to Part 4

Part 4 - Subscribing to Microsoft 365

  1. Boot up the OneDrive app and sign up or sign in. Click on Menu > Upgrade to Premium. You should be able to see Turkish Lira prices for monthly subscriptions.

Where are the annual subscription options? You will not see any annual subscriptions, nor be able to subscribe to it directly from the app, as Microsoft hasn't loaded any annual options into Apple's In-App Purchases

Still seeing Australian prices? Restart your device

  2. Subscribe to your desired plan. Apple will deduct from your Apple ID Balance as payment each month

Note: If you've never signed up to a plan before, Microsoft will offer you a free 1-month trial, followed by monthly Turkey prices thereafter

  3. You’re done! Enjoy your subscription :)

FAQ

Q: Will I need to turn VPN for this deal?
A: No! This deal does not require VPN

Q: Why is OneDrive showing me Australian prices, rather than the Turkish prices I am expecting?
A: Restart your device to fix this issue

        • +19

Australians joke about all kinds of things that might be considered in bad taste in other countries including death, illness, accidents, sex, bodily functions, the list goes on. If you’re ever feeling confronted by an Aussie’s dark humour, remember that it’s probably just an effort to relieve the tension surrounding a subject and to look on the brighter side of things.

inflation is extremely high in Turks and a dozen eggs is about US$10

        • Ah the same price as one banana then

      • That's something Kochie would say. I feel you look up to him.

      • I heard the marke there was flat

      • I hope this wasn't the 100,000th comment 💀

relocating to Turkey is the best option

    Not at the moment…

    • +2

      What about virtual relocation?

    • When is 100k coming up?

      • I think it was after about 3 years as an intern.

    • Rent-vesting then…cos that is what I can afford to buy

  • +1

cheap cloud storage option, assuming that comes with the same 1tb per person (*6) for the family account

  • +1

Or if you don't wanna go through hassle the student discount is $4 a month for Microsoft 365 Personal.

    • +1

      Students get it for free,
Main reason to do free courses but never complete them, just get free 365 for life

      • +1

You don't get the storage for free.

        • I have 365 student and I do get the storage. But I get it directly through my uni, not a student discount.

      • +1

@michael9865 any free courses you recommend? Where can I find them

        • +2

There were some posted on ozbargain like tafe courses or something

      • Which courses are free and give out edu email addresses?

  • Does this also provide the 50GB Mailbox storage as opposed to the 15GB for the free accounts?

    • +1

      That's correct

      • +2

        Awesome thank you!
        Great write up as well!

        • No worries and thank YOU, appreciate it

    • Aren't free accounts only 5Gb now? MS downgraded them all last year (or am I half asleep?)

      • If you make a new account now it's 5 GB of cloud storage 15 GB of mailbox storage.
I still have 30 GB of cloud storage with my free account.

  • +2

Is it the same cost via the Android app?

EDIT: Also anyone have info on the process of the 'family' account? Thinking of making a bogus family manager that this runs through to then patch into my main account, to reduce the risk of ban, etc.

    • No, I’ve checked all android apps and they all have the inflated Turkey prices

      • Are the inflated prices still fairly cheap? Thanks for another detailed post!

  • I don't suppose Dynamics 365 is available the same way? Prices are extortionate for personal use.

    • +6

Managing your household with a CRM?

      • +10

I use Power BI to get insights into the kids spending their pocket money…

    • ahhhh of course they are. Dynamics 365 is not something designed for personal use, its an enterprise CRM with enterprise level pricing.

  • +5

Thanks OP! I am basically living in Turkey at this point.

  • +3

    those prices are pretty groundbreaking

    • +1

      I'm shocked to read that.

  • +4

Interesting timing to post this during a global MS Teams outage.

    • Ha. So it's not just me/my computer. Thanks for that.

  • +3

I’m still rocking 200GB free from Telstra. It’s just enough.

    • Once you go over, you know what to do 😉

    • haha…same here…such a good deal that one.

    • Can you come back to this if you move to 365? I have the same but it’s not much left out of 200gb. But just in case the prices on first table gets adjusted In future I would love to come back to free option.

    • I recall there was a time where Microsoft tried to claw that back and threatened to remove content if it was over the 50Gb or whatever it was they decided you should have got instead. Nothing ever eventuated. Still rocking the 200Gb.

  • +1

Love the work and effort. Top marks.

    Couple of Q's

    1. I'm guessing these steps are only on iOS?
    2. Can I use my existing Microsoft account once it's all set up or do I have to use the email I create the apple id with?
    3. Can people add me to their family like Netflix/YouTube music etc? And if so, anyone want to share with me and I'll pay up front to save on doing the above?

    Thanks!

    • +1

      Thank you :)

      1. Yes, Android prices are way too high (second table on post)

      2. Yes! Existing Microsoft ID

      3. Yes

      • is it a good practice to use a sub-account and share with family to prevent the risk of getting banned?

  • +1

    THIS IS AMAZING

    • Why should Turks get it 1 cent cheaper than us?

    • Shame on you for recycling same old comment for the 5th or 6th time.

Is app store funded by Türkiye Government or is Microsoft Turkish company?

    • +8

If I made 200K a year I wouldn't be on this site as regularly as I am, thank you

In fact I don't work. I sit around finding deals for you guys, the community

    • +5

How is this abuse and exploitation? For all we know, if Apple pays a tax to the Turkey government for App Store listings, these purchases increases the amount they pay even if it's few cents per month per person. Wouldn't it be rather, the more they sell, the better for that country?

      • You just put a shot gun in his mouth😂

      • Wouldn't it be rather, the more they sell, the better for that country?

Wait till you learn how Turkey's been run for the past 1-2 decades…

      • If too many people abuse regional pricing, Microsoft will stop offering it and start charging the US dollar exchange rate equivalent.

The average yearly salary in Turkey is $4,872 US meaning the average Turkish citizen would have to spend 1.72% of their income on Office. That might not sound that much at first, but when compared with the average Australian yearly salary of $48,213 US, you would be paying $829 US per year for office (which would be cost prohibitive even here).

By jeopardising regional pricing, you are effectively jeopardising access for those with less global spending power (all so you could save a couple bucks).

Edit: Sorry for necroing, didn't even see the date.

  • -7

    So Australians are subsidising Turks.

    After Gallipoli too

    Wow…

    • +3

Just think of it as war reparations for attemped invasion of another country and failing.

    • +1

Not as shameless as going for an invasion from a 15000 km distance and call that the independence war.

      • +2

        independence war

Oh I thought we were defending ourselves?

In all seriousness, the Turks, under Ata Turk were possibly one of the most gracious victors in modern history. They were attacked and routed foreign forces, but for over 100yrs, they're welcome citizens from these same foreign nations to visit and pay respects to their dead. It really does begger belief.

        • Defending yourselves in anatolian soil, 15k kms away from home?

        • The Ottoman Empire studded with Germany and entered the war by attacking the Russian Black Sea fleet, Russia being a French/British ally, brought the British and French into conflict with them. The Ottomans later surrendered during WWI and got carved up. Atatürk, brilliant at Gallipoli, was very forward thinking for the Turkish in forming the new country.

  • +22

I can understand making jokes about morbid topics, but doing it whilst they’re quite literally still counting bodies after the earthquakes is pretty shameful imo. Unless all these commenters happen to have some link to Turkey and are using it as a coping method (seems highly unlikely) I think it’s in pretty poor taste.

I certainly wouldn’t appreciate reading jokes like this if my family overseas were in the middle of a huge tragedy. Checking the paper every few hours the death toll is still rising by the hundreds.

      • +5

Not really sure what that has to do with it? My qualm is more that a bunch of people’s first instinct during an ongoing humanitarian crisis is to make puns about it.

          • +6

@TheCandyMan2020: You are pathetic. People have died, in masses. The ones that have survived have lost most of their life savings, their house, family members, memories, everything! For you to be basically saying eff them for something their corrupt politicians/govt did is quite horrible. Be human man. Why so much hate!

      • +1

Well maybe people will assist more if our death toll is in the 4-5 figures.
