Welcome to the ultimate guide of Microsoft 365 subscriptions

No VPN needed. Requires Apple Türkiye ID.

I know many of you use Microsoft 365 applications and OneDrive for storage and since Australian prices are pretty ridiculous, I had to find an alternate solution (and I did - TR pricing is 91% off AU pricing). This is probably an error, as it's not meant to be this low - and what's the catch? You only get these prices by subscribing via the Microsoft OneDrive app.

If you don't know what Microsoft 365 is, then it includes Access to the latest updates, Multiple devices and platforms, Ongoing technical support, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Microsoft Editor, Microsoft Defender, Clipchamp, OneDrive Clound Storage, Microsoft Family Safety, Microsoft Teams, Access (PC only), Publisher (for PC only), Microsoft Forms & Skype. Most of these features are unavailable for the Standalone Office Home & Student Bundle

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google Drive, Disney, relocating to Turkey is sometimes the best option, with some methods saving over $100 AUD a year (Praying for Türkiye right now IYKYK).

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. Before proceeding, make sure you DO NOT have an active Microsoft 365 subscription

This guide looks extensive (because I try my best to explain it simply for beginners) however if you've done this before then it shouldn't take you more than a few mins (for iOS at least) as you can skip most of these instructions

Part 1 - Turkey Apple ID

If you already have a Turkey Apple ID, proceed to Part 2

If you DO NOT have a Turkey Apple ID:

  1. Create a Turkish Apple ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com/account

  2. Follow the onscreen steps. In the mobile number section, use your Australian mobile number (Very important to use a valid number or risk losing your ID). Choose the country as Turkey. Then follow through the rest to create your ID.

  3. Login into Apple ID on a browser. Go to this link to enter a Turkish address (you can get a random address here) to your Turkish Apple ID. Select payment method as "none" and save.

Part 2 - Loading your Turkey Apple ID with Turkey Apple Gift Cards

  1. Buy TL (₺) iTunes gift cards (Make sure you only buy Turkish ones, only comes in 25 TRY and 50 TRY denominations) from TurGame > Choose currency as TL/TRY See how and pay with a debit/credit card (use a card that has no international transaction fees to avoid the any extra costs). All transactions will have a certain "Payment Partner Fee" attached - at checkout, choose "Credit or debit card - PAYTR" for the lowest payment partner fee (it's very small)

  2. Go to Settings on your iPhone/iPad > Your Name > Media and Purchases > Log out from your current ID and login with your Turkish Apple ID

  3. Redeem iTunes gift cards by going to App Store > Account (located at right top corner) > Redeem gift cards or code.

Part 3 - Downloading OneDrive

  1. Once signed in with your Turkish Apple ID, download OneDrive from the app store. If you already have OneDrive installed using your Australian Apple ID, proceed to Part 4

Part 4 - Subscribing to Microsoft 365

  1. Boot up the OneDrive app and sign up or sign in. Click on Menu > Upgrade to Premium. You should be able to see Turkish Lira prices for monthly subscriptions.

    Where are the annual subscription options? You will not see any annual subscriptions, nor be able to subscribe to it directly from the app, as Microsoft hasn't loaded any annual options into Apple's In-App Purchases

    Still seeing Australian prices? Restart your device

  2. Subscribe to your desired plan. Apple will deduct from your Apple ID Balance as payment each month

    Note: If you've never signed up to a plan before, Microsoft will offer you a free 1-month trial, followed by monthly Turkey prices thereafter

  3. You’re done! Enjoy your subscription :)

Q: Will I need to turn VPN for this deal?
A: No! This deal does not require VPN

Q: Why is OneDrive showing me Australian prices, rather than the Turkish prices I am expecting?
A: Restart your device to fix this issue

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month. Note this only applies to when buying the gift card.

Q: I have an existing Microsoft 365 (AU) subscription, can I use the same email?

    For anyone wanting to avoid issues with the Turgame giftcards. I used eneba.com and it's worked great, slightly more expensive but a much cleaner automated experience and they accept PayPal. Giftcard was delivered and activated instantly. Just make sure you change your country and currency to turkiye first in the website menu.

        You can continue to use Wise to send money abroad from your bank account.

        From today, you’re no longer able to:
        Get new account details for any currency.
        Add money to your Wise TRY balance from your Turkish bank account.
        Use your Wise card. This is unrelated to recent regulatory changes and is due to Wise not being licensed to offer cards in Türkiye. Therefore, if you have a card it will no longer work with immediate effect.
        After 9 October, you won’t be able to:
        Open new balances and Jars to hold money in different currencies.
        Convert between your Wise balances.
        Add money to your existing Wise balances.
        Send transfers from your Wise balances.
        Receive money into Wise. This means that any Wise account details you have will stop working, and any money sent to these will be returned to the sender. Let your senders know that they can no longer send you money this way.
        After 9 October, you can still use Wise to:
        Withdraw any remaining money in your Wise balance to your own bank accounts. Your money is safe.
        Send international transfers through Wise directly from your bank account in Türkiye.

          That’s only for people with accounts registered with a Turkish address, it doesn’t apply to addresses registered in Australia. Have no issues adding TRY into my account

        You can use your card providers conversion rate, but in either case we're talking very small $ differences.

          Conversion rate plus usually an international transaction fee. Using Wise compared to one of the big 3 banks or PayPal on 500TRY will save you a good $5AU. This is Ozbargain after all, PayPal and ozbargain should never be in the same sentence

    For those who do not have a iPhone/iPad, I managed to make it work by using a MacOS VirtualBox VM and online testing service to access a real iPhone. Here are the steps:

    • Create a Turkey AppleID as instructed

    • Get a Turkey Apple gift card ready as instructed

    • If you have a MacBook, or you have other ways to redeem the gift card, you can skip this step. This is to use MacBook VM to redeem the gift card.
      Follow the video to install a MacOS VirtualBox on Windows. I used Monterey. If you choose other version, search in the comments first as I started with Big Sur but the image was broken. I had to download another image. Once done, redeem the gift card to your AppleID. You can also check the price in OneDrive app in MacBook here. I did not see the cheaper price.

    • As iPhone emulator does not have App Store. we need to find a online service that give you access to real devices such as BrowserStack. I used TestGrid. It provides free 60 minutes per month to use real devices online. Connect to an iPhone in TestGrid. Login to App Store, download OneDrive app and login with Microsoft account. Upgrade the subscription and you shall see the right price. Remember to log out OneDrive and App store.

    Thank you, heaps OP @I Smell Pennies I subscribed to 1TB plan but now realised needed to sub the 6TB to share with Family. Can't really figure out how to do that. Onedrive app on ipad with Turkey Apple ID, does not have option to Family upgrade. I logged in to onedrive in safari on Turkey Apple ID ipad but that presents additional storage options in Try currency but none to Family plan. Can someone point me to something I may have missed please?

      On the settings app, click on your Apple ID profile on the top, then click on Subscriptions, then click on the MS365/Onedrive subscription, then click “See all Plans” and select your new plan

    If anyone else gets a message which says "Making in-app purchases has been blocked on this device or isn't supported in your country or region", what I needed to do was:
    Remove the management profile installed by InTune Company Portal for my workplace (removing this profile removed oneDrive)
    Download one drive
    Then go premium.

    I have gone through the 5 pages regarding my issue but can only see half answers. If anyone can clarify, it will be appreciated.

    I am trying to pay for a gift card on turgame. I went to "checkout", clicked on PAYTR as per Op's recommendation, clicked on "place order" and now have the following message in my account "pending payment".

    I read in the previous posts that it may take a few hours to receive the gift card HOWEVER, I haven't paid or entered my credit card details at all? Why would status be "pending payment" if I havent entered or paid for the gift card?

    No option was given to enter credit card details.

      If you have a spare iPhone lying around, I'd recommend setting that up as your Turkish one. I don't know about you, but I keep my gift/debit/credit cards stored in my iPhone wallet and they all get wiped when you switch between accounts. So you'll have to re-add each one when you switch back to your main account.

      For anyone with this issue that still has money on Oldubil. I went into E-pin and was able to but a 250 LIRA E-pin with just email address, phone number is thankfully optional. I could than redeem this on Itunes and add it into account with no fees which is great.

    Obviously wanting to use an existing MS subscription email given so much is connected to it. However, when you renew a subscription or even use a purchased key, your computer/currency has to be in the same country/currency as the original Microsoft 365 subscription or its rejected. Isn't this an issue ? I know heaps have done this successfully already but how are you getting around this inbuilt restriction.

      Only way to get 1TB One Drive storage. Onedrive integrated with Samsung gallery, windows 11 and also allows iOS photo backups as well so is one of the cheaper cloud storages to choose.

      Apart from that I think 365 gives more tokens to use ChatGPT4 on Bing.

      other than that I don't really use Office suite outside of work.
