Welcome to the ultimate guide of Microsoft 365 subscriptions

No VPN needed. Requires Apple Türkiye ID.

I know many of you use Microsoft 365 applications and OneDrive for storage and since Australian prices are pretty ridiculous, I had to find an alternate solution (and I did - TR pricing is 91% off AU pricing). This is probably an error, as it's not meant to be this low - and what's the catch? You only get these prices by subscribing via the Microsoft OneDrive app.

If you don't know what Microsoft 365 is, then it includes Access to the latest updates, Multiple devices and platforms, Ongoing technical support, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Microsoft Editor, Microsoft Defender, Clipchamp, OneDrive Clound Storage, Microsoft Family Safety, Microsoft Teams, Access (PC only), Publisher (for PC only), Microsoft Forms & Skype. Most of these features are unavailable for the Standalone Office Home & Student Bundle

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google Drive, Disney, relocating to Turkey is sometimes the best option, with some methods saving over $100 AUD a year (Praying for Türkiye right now IYKYK).

As always, credits to Pricebeat for all the Apple ID related knowledge I've gained from his past posts

All prices in this guide are current as of 19 September 2023.

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. Before proceeding, make sure you DO NOT have an active Microsoft 365 subscription

This guide looks extensive (because I try my best to explain it simply for beginners) however if you've done this before then it shouldn't take you more than a few mins (for iOS at least) as you can skip most of these instructions

Part 1 - Turkey Apple ID

If you already have a Turkey Apple ID, proceed to Part 2

If you DO NOT have a Turkey Apple ID:

  1. Create a Turkish Apple ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com/account

  2. Follow the onscreen steps. In the mobile number section, use your Australian mobile number (Very important to use a valid number or risk losing your ID). Choose the country as Turkey. Then follow through the rest to create your ID.

  3. Login into Apple ID on a browser. Go to this link to enter a Turkish address (you can get a random address here) to your Turkish Apple ID. Select payment method as "none" and save.

Part 2 - Loading your Turkey Apple ID with Turkey Apple Gift Cards

  1. Buy TL (₺) iTunes gift cards (Make sure you only buy Turkish ones, only comes in 25 TRY and 50 TRY denominations) from TurGame > Choose currency as TL/TRY See how and pay with a debit/credit card (use a card that has no international transaction fees to avoid the any extra costs). All transactions will have a certain "Payment Partner Fee" attached - at checkout, choose "Credit or debit card - PAYTR" for the lowest payment partner fee (it's very small)

  2. Go to Settings on your iPhone/iPad > Your Name > Media and Purchases > Log out from your current ID and login with your Turkish Apple ID

  3. Redeem iTunes gift cards by going to App Store > Account (located at right top corner) > Redeem gift cards or code.

Part 3 - Downloading OneDrive

  1. Once signed in with your Turkish Apple ID, download OneDrive from the app store. If you already have OneDrive installed using your Australian Apple ID, proceed to Part 4

Part 4 - Subscribing to Microsoft 365

  1. Boot up the OneDrive app and sign up or sign in. Click on Menu > Upgrade to Premium. You should be able to see Turkish Lira prices for monthly subscriptions.

Where are the annual subscription options? You will not see any annual subscriptions, nor be able to subscribe to it directly from the app, as Microsoft hasn't loaded any annual options into Apple's In-App Purchases

Still seeing Australian prices? Restart your device

  2. Subscribe to your desired plan. Apple will deduct from your Apple ID Balance as payment each month

Note: If you've never signed up to a plan before, Microsoft will offer you a free 1-month trial, followed by monthly Turkey prices thereafter

  3. You’re done! Enjoy your subscription :)

FAQ

Q: Will I need to turn VPN for this deal?
A: No! This deal does not require VPN

Q: Why is OneDrive showing me Australian prices, rather than the Turkish prices I am expecting?
A: Restart your device to fix this issue

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month. Note this only applies to when buying the gift card.

Q: I have an existing Microsoft 365 (AU) subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely! Make sure your subscription expires, then follow the instructions on this deal

Interesting, from the person whose nom de plume/handle is offensive to approximately 2.5 billion people.

    • I feel like your user name is more offensive than these jokes

  • +2

If anyone who got the deal wants so share a family spot for some $. Hit me up pls.

    • Can the admin of account can look into your stuff? 👀

      • According to their terms they can not. Phew

All of ozbargain needs just 1 family account
        One big family. Cuddles.

  • +1

What are the ongoing implications? I presume that you can then log out of the Turkey Apple ID and log back in with your standard one, right? I'm not an iOS user but the wife is; are there implications to your phone if you muck around changing Apple ID? I presume also that you just have to stay ahead of your subscription fee by topping up the Turky Apple gift cards every now and then, right?

    • +3

I presume that you can then log out of the Turkey Apple ID and log back in with your standard one, right?

      Absolutely correct presumption

I'm not an iOS user but the wife is; are there implications to your phone if you muck around changing Apple ID?

      No implications as per above

I presume also that you just have to stay ahead of your subscription fee by topping up the Turky Apple gift cards every now and then, right?

Yup, or load a years worth all at once to avoid doing it all the time

      • +2

Is it possible ms detects this price error and corrects after 2 months?

  • Do i need to buy gift card and recharge everytime AppleID balance go low? Or I can add CC later and AppleID will charge from CC. Ta

    • +2

If CC can be added, no one would be using gift cards.

      • Thought it will be like Netflix, which needs gift cards first, then charge by CC. Thanks anyway.

  • the prices mentioned….
are they for a year's access, or per month?
and if it is per year, is it possible to pay extra for extra years in advance?

    • +2

Read title of the post again.

    • seems like only monthly subscriptions available atm

  • Good price. Gobble this deal up people.

They changed the name of their entire country because they're sick of this joke 😅

  • I have Office 2013 on my old laptop, how do I install it on my new laptop? Do I just copy the original license? I don't have original product, or key.

I think it's still being updated, so I'd rather keep using if possible?

    Thank you

    Edit.
It seems people sell Office 2021 keys for $15 even on Amazon:/

    • It seems people sell Office 2021 keys for $15 even on Amazon:/

they do, but if you are happy with pirating dodgy licenses why would you pay $15, plenty of sites to get keys for free. I never quite understand the mindset, happy to take the stolen goods and pay the dodgy guys as long as someone else does the theft for you.

  • Will data be stored on Australian server?

    • +1

I was just about to ask this… and are there any other "special features" under local laws/regs for Turkish accounts?

Given I use my OneDrive for important data, I'm a little more nervous about being adventurous to save a few dollars (or in this case, a hundred dollars) and risk losing it all or it being leaked. I'm not so paranoid that I encrypt data before putting it in the cloud though.

      • I'm guessing it will be stored on the Turkey server since this is a Turkish account.

        • I'm thinking that it'd remain an Australian Microsoft account, paid for by a Turkish Apple account.

        • There are no Turkey servers. i.e. no Azure/O365 region in Turkey so at worst it would be one of the other European regions.

    • +1

given that big tech corps tend to replicate data across multiple (international) regions for redundancy and data integrity/protection purposes, your data is most likely to end up in different countries (encrypted and inaccessible to external parties hopefully) even if you were to sign up for an Australian OneDrive subscription. feel free to correct me on this as I feel some Australian Cyberlaw would have made Microsoft into doing otherwise.

    • Great question, not just for data sovereignty issues but also I presume decreased download speed accessing/downloading the files as the data centre is based overseas.

Edit, as this is a consumer grade service I dont think there is a specific region the data is stored, unlike business services where you select where the data is stored.

  • So for step 4; I can sign into OneDrive with any MS account I want?

  • This might be dumb question.
Does it mean I can then use ms office apps on Mac computers or windows computers?

    • +1

Subscription links to your Microsoft account. Then use it wherever you sign in with that account.

  • Good deal.
My iPhone has Microsoft 365 from the office and won't allow me to use my personal outlook/OneDrive in that app. Experts, can you advise an alternative solution?

    • +1

As in, it won't let you add a non corporate account? Usually you can still add them by adding personal accounts and they'll be segregated (from my own experience using iOS and corporate managed Microsoft apps).

I thought my past two employers were pretty strict but the Microsoft apps still allowed me to have non-corporate accounts on iOS but the apps themselves were locked down (ie you couldn't export files from there to non-managed apps, couldn't copy paste text out, etc).

On a side note though, this is one of the times where Android does it way better than iOS in terms of separating out corporate/work profile apps and keeping them isolated.

      • Thanks, Android definitely does it better. I am thinking to move back to Android. Wish this deal works with Android mobile also

        • I was under the impression once you have it activated on your Office account (just paid using Apple account), you can use it on any device… I haven't tried though.

  • May i know what do you guys use this for?

The only things i can think of is office and one drive

i use google docs to replace office
One drive? i can still use my google drive.

    any other benefit folks?
Tempting to register one, but cant find a proper reason to fit into my need and workflow :(

    • I prefer Microsoft's integration into Windows, and have had positive experiences with Microsoft support many many years ago with retrieving deleted photos on a free account… and even in Australian pricing, I always thought it seemed reasonable value given it's Microsoft Office on all your devices (laptops, desktops, tablets, phone) and 1TB of storage per person in the family.

I also pay for Google since I use the photos backup feature, but I feel that I've had better value out of Microsoft's subscriptions than Google's.

    • I'm in the same camp. Currently google docs/sheets/drive and that is enough for what I need generally.

But this is a good deal for cloud storage! How are people using so much storage? Anything else that I'm missing out on office 365?

  • Hows everyone's Microsoft services today? 😂

    • +2

For every frustrated IT support person, there's lots of employees rejoicing that Teams went down.

      • +1

Don't worry it also makes us harder to contact 😂

        • Unfortunately my employer has redundancies with other communications platforms :( But I do miss the incoming Teams call sound…

  • +1

I have iCloud via Turkey, I have Google One via Turkey, .. should I get this one too? :D

  • Love this and thanks for the write up. My main concern here is the lack of annual subscription option which means that Microsoft at any point could just jack up the Turkish monthly subscription price especially if they realise this was some sort of error pricing in the first place.

    • Low risk, high reward. If they jack it, you cancel. Simples.

  • +9

Shame on all those that are making puns at a situation what words would fail to describe. Your moral compass has gone astray at the expense of having a giggle. I suggest you watch some of the footage online and put yourself in their position, what would you do if it was your daughter or son under the rubble and couldn't get to them, or worse, pulled out their dead body?

I wouldn't wish that on my enemy.

    • I don't think anyone has wished any of this on anyone?

  • +1

My TURGAME order is stuck in 'processing'. Anyone having same issue? How long does it take to receive your redeem code? Thanks.

    • +1

Daytime usually much much longer (can take anywhere from instant to a few hours). Night time is much fast (instant to minutes)

      • +1

        Thanks :)

      • Is this normal for Turgame to ask to verify yourself after receiving payment? Asking me to upload a pic of my card and a handwritten declaration. My order will not progress untill i do that. WTH!!

        • +1

I’ve never had to do that

        • +1

Yes, I have done that. Just block out all information and leave your name.

  • Do the same/similar steps work on MacOS?

    • Give it a try? Worst case you see inflated prices and don't subscribe.

It would be valuable feedback for us

      • Don't have a Mac. Wanted to know if it's worth spinning up a MacOS VM. Will report if I end up testing.

    • Works just fine on a Mac as I just did it.

      • Could you advise how you got the deal on Mac?

I logged into Turkish iTunes account on Mac App Store, downloaded OneDrive, clicked 'Go Premium' via the icon in the task bar and now I'm being presented with two annual subscription options - Personal 1299 lira and Family 1699 lira. That's more expensive than the AU sub.

        Thanks!

      • unfortunately… shows full price for me :(

      • How did you do it? I tried on my MacBook and it shows full (Turkiye) price. I only have MacBook … really hope this works on MacBook.

  • -4

earth shattering prices!!! the new turkey theme we got going on this month, love hate relationship…

  • I’m unsure how to interpret the price in Turkish lira.
Is the gift card 2,500 lira or 25.00?
    There’s a comma after 25.
    There’s 2 options for purchase:

    25,00 TRY
    50,00 TRY

    • Replace the comma with a dot. So 25.00, 50.00 etc

  • Silly question, but I'm getting conflicting answers in google. Do I need ro keep buying Türkiye apple gift cards or once setup can I top up via credit card?

    • Can’t use an Aus credit card with Turkey Apple ID, gotta keep those Gift Cards pumpin

      • +1

        Cheers.

I've found for this & Netflix, the gpay seemed to work with 28deg, where the other, slightly cheaper one kept failing

      • Wise card supports Lira - I wonder if it would work?

        • Have you ever found and answer to this? It would be like paying with a local card wouldn’t it?

          • @Larsson: Can confirm it did NOT work.

It’s odd because I thought transferwise card would as native TRY account.

  • -1

Keep the jokes incoming, I am writing it all up to say at the Turkey event this weekend when i get up on stage

    • Thanksgiving was in November.

  • I suppose no one knows if it's possible to get Project or Visio via Turkiye at a good price?

    • +2

Microsoft Visio Professional 2021 Cd Key $6.

  • With the subscription from Turkey, do I need a Syrial number to activate?

    • no

  • I'm almost there… Signed into the app. Selected premium. then I get a popup saying:

    Payment information required.
To subscribe, add a new payment method. You will only be charged when your trial ends.

Thing is, I can only choose card, and plugging in my AU card, I get an error saying it's not valid.

    Any ideas?

    • i am not 100% sure as i am still waiting for those giftcards to come through via email from Turgame, but i think you only have card option because you dont readily have any giftcard credits in your apple id yet.

could be wrong, so would be interested if anyone else can confirm or correct my understanding?

    • That’ll be it!
It’s not just me then… I read the FAQ and it suggested they’re processed immediately or within minutes. im not very patient with thinks like this

      err.. wtf…..
any other place to buy turkey apple card ?

    • +1

I did that too, it's all good after 1st verification..bought couple hundred lira after, it comes almost instantly (night time)

      • +2

Thanks. Wans't sure if that is a thing to verify yourself!
I have already ask them to f-off and cancel my order :)

Went with eneba and got the voucher code straight up as a checkout process no waiting :)

  • +2

Just to clarify, will the subscription allow the installation on PC/Mac or iOS only?

    • All of the above

  • If you don't need onedrive, is it worth just buying an office 2021 key from Amazon for $15?

    • Better off just to pirate Office 2021 than give some idiot money for sharing dodgy corp licences.

  • +1

Thanks pennies, don't think I need it much, just subscribe cos it's cheap haha…
