Welcome to the ultimate guide of Microsoft 365 subscriptions

No VPN needed. Requires Apple Türkiye ID.

I know many of you use Microsoft 365 applications and OneDrive for storage and since Australian prices are pretty ridiculous, I had to find an alternate solution (and I did - TR pricing is 91% off AU pricing). This is probably an error, as it's not meant to be this low - and what's the catch? You only get these prices by subscribing via the Microsoft OneDrive app.

If you don't know what Microsoft 365 is, then it includes Access to the latest updates, Multiple devices and platforms, Ongoing technical support, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Microsoft Editor, Microsoft Defender, Clipchamp, OneDrive Clound Storage, Microsoft Family Safety, Microsoft Teams, Access (PC only), Publisher (for PC only), Microsoft Forms & Skype. Most of these features are unavailable for the Standalone Office Home & Student Bundle

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google Drive, Disney, relocating to Turkey is sometimes the best option, with some methods saving over $100 AUD a year (Praying for Türkiye right now IYKYK).

As always, credits to Pricebeat for all the Apple ID related knowledge I've gained from his past posts

All prices in this guide are current as of 19 September 2023.

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. Before proceeding, make sure you DO NOT have an active Microsoft 365 subscription

This guide looks extensive (because I try my best to explain it simply for beginners) however if you've done this before then it shouldn't take you more than a few mins (for iOS at least) as you can skip most of these instructions

Part 1 - Turkey Apple ID

If you already have a Turkey Apple ID, proceed to Part 2

If you DO NOT have a Turkey Apple ID:

  1. Create a Turkish Apple ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com/account

  2. Follow the onscreen steps. In the mobile number section, use your Australian mobile number (Very important to use a valid number or risk losing your ID). Choose the country as Turkey. Then follow through the rest to create your ID.

  3. Login into Apple ID on a browser. Go to this link to enter a Turkish address (you can get a random address here) to your Turkish Apple ID. Select payment method as "none" and save.

Part 2 - Loading your Turkey Apple ID with Turkey Apple Gift Cards

  1. Buy TL (₺) iTunes gift cards (Make sure you only buy Turkish ones, only comes in 25 TRY and 50 TRY denominations) from TurGame > Choose currency as TL/TRY See how and pay with a debit/credit card (use a card that has no international transaction fees to avoid the any extra costs). All transactions will have a certain "Payment Partner Fee" attached - at checkout, choose "Credit or debit card - PAYTR" for the lowest payment partner fee (it's very small)

  2. Go to Settings on your iPhone/iPad > Your Name > Media and Purchases > Log out from your current ID and login with your Turkish Apple ID

  3. Redeem iTunes gift cards by going to App Store > Account (located at right top corner) > Redeem gift cards or code.

Part 3 - Downloading OneDrive

  1. Once signed in with your Turkish Apple ID, download OneDrive from the app store. If you already have OneDrive installed using your Australian Apple ID, proceed to Part 4

Part 4 - Subscribing to Microsoft 365

  1. Boot up the OneDrive app and sign up or sign in. Click on Menu > Upgrade to Premium. You should be able to see Turkish Lira prices for monthly subscriptions.

Where are the annual subscription options? You will not see any annual subscriptions, nor be able to subscribe to it directly from the app, as Microsoft hasn't loaded any annual options into Apple's In-App Purchases

Still seeing Australian prices? Restart your device

  2. Subscribe to your desired plan. Apple will deduct from your Apple ID Balance as payment each month

Note: If you've never signed up to a plan before, Microsoft will offer you a free 1-month trial, followed by monthly Turkey prices thereafter

  3. You’re done! Enjoy your subscription :)

FAQ

Q: Will I need to turn VPN for this deal?
A: No! This deal does not require VPN

Q: Why is OneDrive showing me Australian prices, rather than the Turkish prices I am expecting?
A: Restart your device to fix this issue

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month. Note this only applies to when buying the gift card.

Q: I have an existing Microsoft 365 (AU) subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely! Make sure your subscription expires, then follow the instructions on this deal

  • So I'm on a Turkish appleid, seeing TLR but the price is saying 129.99TL a month for person and 169.99TL a month for family… what have I done wrong?

    • +1

Try restore purchases or delete and reinstall app or hard reset phone

    • Update: It was user error. I was trying to get the premium activated through the Microsoft 365 app, not the OneDrive app!

    OP IS AWESOME !!!

  • i was interested. steps too hard. just going to use the free one.

    • It’s very easy

      • messaging you all my details and bank account number. you do it for me, ty.

  • Small confusion…the instruction says Before proceeding, make sure you DO NOT have an active Microsoft 365 subscription. But OP also confirmed in the comments that existing MS ID can be used.
I have an existing family subscription (AU$129), due for recharge in a month's time, with 5 family members added and ~400GB data in OneDrive. If I follow these steps, would it have any impact on my existing setup and data in OneDrive? Thanks.

    • it's a definite maybe

    • You can use an existing MS ID… as long as it does not have an active subscription. Sorry if that confused you.

  • The turgame website so slow. I have not been able to complete the transaction. Is anyone experiencing this too?

  • I have some issues with being asked to verify my phone number, but i never get the sms delivered,

  • Do I need to get a burner sim card number, or can I use same number I currently have for Australian apple id?

  • Is there any one time payment to use office on macbook?

  • So can the 'In-App' pricing change with no notice? If we sign up to this now, what happens if MS Turkey decides to increase price, do you know how that might work? (Will we be notified via email or does it just change)

    • +1

      According to Apple for Developers

Price increases. When you increase the price of an auto-renewable subscription, Apple automatically provides push notifications, email, and in-app messaging to let subscribers know about the upcoming change and how to manage their subscription. Some price increases require subscribers to opt in, while smaller, infrequent price increases can result in notifications without the need to opt in.

If needed, you can temporarily delay the in-app price consent sheet to avoid interrupting someone during a critical moment.

You can keep an unlimited number of active subscribers at their existing price while increasing the price for new subscribers. If you don’t preserve the price for existing subscribers, and they need to consent, they must agree to the new price. If they don’t agree, their subscription expires at the end of their current billing cycle.

If you have several cohorts of subscribers at different prices and want to move all subscribers to the current price, increase the price for those paying closest to the current price first (for example, $2.99 to $3.99), then the next closest, and so on. This ensures that people don’t experience multiple price increases. Before you make any pricing decisions, research your target market’s pricing expectations and weigh the potential impact of raising the price against retaining subscribers.

      • +1

Ah awesome, thank you for this!

  • Before proceeding, make sure you DO NOT have an active Microsoft 365 subscription

So if I currently have a M365 Personal subscription till June 2023 (turned off recurring-billing/auto-renew), could I still use this method to upgrade to the Family subscription?
If not, is there anything I could do? I doubt this will still work in June 🙁

    • You can try :)
According to Microsoft they just add it on https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/switch-to-microso…

      Here's an example

Moving from Microsoft 365 Personal to Microsoft 365 Family:

Current subscription: You have 6 months left on your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.

New subscription: You buy a 12-month subscription to Microsoft 365 Family using the same Microsoft account as your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.

Result: Your existing subscription is immediately converted to Microsoft 365 Family and will renew in 18 months, not 12. Microsoft 365 Family benefits such as sharing, and Family Safety are available immediately after you make this switch.

      • Ahh I just checked on my OneDrive app on AU Store (and with a MS365 Personal subscription redeemed via MS Account page, so not within iOS app) and the app shows that I have M365 Personal but does not give me the option to upgrade to M365 Family. With this, I assume even if I setup a Turkish account I won't be able to upgrade my M365 Personal to M365 Family via the OneDrive app 🙁. Thanks anyways… I've set myself a reminder for June… will revisit to see how the prices are then! haha

        • According to Microsoft you buy it first (i.e. the Family sub) and it automatically converts your current sub from Personal to Family and how many months left it will add on, rather than an upgrade button/option

          • @I Smell Pennies: Yea that works if I'm buying via web (I've done this before) but when I'm in the app I don't have the option to buy anything it just says I already have M365 Personal and doesn't give me the option to buy anything else.

  • Got till the last step. While Still On my Turkey apple acc I bought the family subscription. It went through, as I received the confirmation email from apple. As new user I got 1 month free. But it seems that office/one drive doesn’t recognize my purchase(?). One drive still shows 5gig only, not 1tb. When I press the diamond, it still shows <<upgrade>> button, which when I press the button, it shows that I have the subscription already. But, when I tried to restore my purchase, it says that it can’t be restored, as it was purchased by different Apple ID (which is not)… Any help, please? Thanks heaps.

    • Did you restart the app?

      • I restarted my ipad (if it is similar…)

        • Restart app

          • @Pricebeat: Thanks OP, @Pricebeat
Finally got this work, after log out, delete and reinstall onedrive.
My excel also automatically asked for me to log in to my Turkeish acc. to get upgraded.

And i still can use it after i log back to my aussie acc.

  • +1

Nice OP, also Some very important questions in the comments should be to added in FAQ's.

  • +8

The lack of compassion by some on here towards thousands of innocent men, women and children being crushed to death is downright disturbing. I never saw these types of comments during the bushfires, is it because these aren't Australians?

    • +2

I agree with you, not everything is funny

  • what is the best way to load an additional buffer amount in turkey apple ID?
Can I change back to Australian apple ID after the subscription is complete and down Microsoft app 365 on my devices?

    • Keen to know this too. I'm guessing we have to buy another TR apple GC to top up.

    • what is the best way to load an additional buffer amount in turkey apple ID?

Log back in to the Turkish ID and load using more gift cards.

Can I change back to Australian apple ID after the subscription is complete and down Microsoft app 365 on my devices?

      Yes

  • Thanks for your efforts OP!

Regarding Turkish iTunes gift cards from TurGame, is there a different place to get them that is easier without the potential ID verification hassles?

    • Someone in the comments said they bought from here
      https://www.eneba.com/
Turgame seem to only process during their business hours too.

      • Good find - Turgame seem to only ever stock the 25 and 50 TL cards vs Eneba who have cards up to 500 and 1000 (1000 sold out).

    • Using a Revolut disposable card, I purchased from Richegame, whose website looked dodgy, as it was half turkish and half English.

The cost of a 50 TL card inclusive of merchant processing fees was $3.97.

I was not asked to verify my ID, but I had to enable OTP for 2FA during registration. They did not send the iTunes Pin via email, but through their customer portal.

      Hope this helps!

      • how long did richegame take to send you the giftcards? I bought mine 24 hours ago and the status is still "waiting"

  • Just asking again if anyone who's set it up wants to share a spot for some $. I don't have access to iOS so would be helpful if anyone can help.

  • As per instructions, we logged out of Australian AppleID in Media and Purchases, logged on with Turkish AppleID and upgraded One drive to pay from it.
If we changes Media and Purchases back to Australian AppleID, will OneDrive charge from my card or will it charge from Gift cards redeemed in Turkish AppleID?

    • Turkish Apple ID can on charge your AppleId Balance, wont be able to charge your card. So to keep the subscription, you need to reload apple id turkish by giftcard

      • Thanks, I found the answer. The subscriptions on Australian AppleID show an item (e.g. Paramount+) while Turkish AppleID shows a subscription to Microsoft 365.

  • Quick question: When making the Turkish Apple ID, can it be the same email address as your Australian Apple ID?
Thanks for the help in advance

    • For anyone else, I used a different email address to make a Turkish Apple ID

      • It can not be same email

  • +1

    Thanks OP

Many thanks OP - from a pretty computer illiterate person!! I followed your instructions to the letter and it all worked! Clear and simple explanation.
My main stumbling block was that when I started to sign out of my Au Apple ID the ipad was asking all these questions that I wasn't sure of the answer/possible outcome. Simple solution - drag my old ipad out of the back of the cupboard, charge it up, and use that for the Turkish Apple Id.
    many thanks.

      For next time

Settings > your name > media and purchases > Sign out > sign in with Turkish ID

  • Regarding Turkish iTunes gift cards, I bought a 100 TRY gift card and it cost in total 125 TRY on Eneba website. So there was a 25 TRY extra cost or 25%.

What did the extra costs amount to using TurGame?

    • bought 650 lira (for disney+), they charged 35 lira fees

  • +1

Thank you so much OP! Really clear and direct instructions. Cheers.

  • well it worked but on my mac ms office and ms office still shows the message "subscription needed ", not sure why

    • Maybe it needs a refresh. Because when you log into Microsoft it shows the subscription

  • Anyone able to advise how to turn on Family Purchase Sharing? since switching over to Turkey and not having a form of payment it refuses to allow me to share family purchases.

    • You can’t family share purchases with overseas account.

  • If only I had an iphone to get the onedrive app :(

    • If you want, I can help by invite you join the my Office 365 Family. We can share the cost. Drop me a PM or drop an emai to [email protected]

  • Any workarounds for someone who only has an old iPhone 6 limited to iOS 12 and a Macbook? Tried the Onedrive Mac app, but no potato. And the Onedrive app requires iOS 14.

    • Also tried finding an IPA file for the Onedrive iOS app, and try running it natively on the M1 Mac. But can't find a copy to download (and unfortunately never installed it on an iPhone before, so can't download from the App Store on the Mac (you can download anything you've previously installed on the iPhone).

    • Probably try to install Onedrive with your Apple ID on a new device first. Then when you try to install it on IOS 12 with the same Apple ID, it will let you install an old version of Onedrive.

    • +1

Alternatively find an older version of itunes to install onto Windows. The really old versions had Appstore built in.
This is how I overcame the same issue of having an older iPad.
Once installed you log into iTunes using your turkey baste (based - Pun) apple id and go to the app store and choose one drive and download it.
Now give it 5 mins and then go to your iPad and look in "Purchased" apps and it should appear there.
Then it will give you the option of installing an older version of the app when you try and install as its newest isn't compatible.

  • Probably the only option, hijack the old man's iPhone!

  • -3

Is it cheaper to buy a house in Turkey too?

  • +1

    Thanks so much OP

Perfect. Thanks OP. Hardest part was finding the wife's retired iPhone 7.

Thanks OP. Thanks to your instructions, I'm now enjoying 6TB of One Drive.

Just to share my experience, using a Revolut disposable card, I purchased from Richegame, whose website looked dodgy, as it was half turkish and half English.

  • I have existing family subscription expiring in 2025. Can I use this method to purchase yearly subscription to extend from 2025 onwards?

    • Hi, @I Smell Pennies appreciate any feedback or help
On my question. I availed the offer posted here a few years ago and signed up for a few years. Is it possible for me to extend beyond 2025 using this method?

      • Please send me a PM I’ll look into it

  • How do I change to Microsoft 365 Family, from 365 Personal?

  • +1

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I subscribed to Microsoft 365 Personal in the OneDrive app on iOS and then got a spinning wheel.

Tried reloading the app and it's still asking me to upgrade … despite the subscription being active in my iPhone settings.

At least it's only $16 wasted. Could have been a lot worse I guess.

    • Log onto Microsoft (web) and see if the subscription exists?

      • Tried that. No mention of the subscription :(

  • I followed exact steps listed, but it doesn’t work. Apple subscriptions says it’s subscribed but the wheel keeps spinning in OneDrive app. Tried restarting app and tried on iPhone as well as ipad. checking on web doesn’t say subscription is active. Anyone else having same issue?

    • @seafades what’s up now? any updates?

      • +1

        Wow, you’re awesome mate!

Good news is that it works but I had to create a brand new outlook email and followed everything as per instructions(to every word in the instructions). For some reason, existing outlook account had same issue. Thanks again!

Just one feedback, not sure if it’s worth but I’ll still put it out there: can you please update instructions at the end to indicate that to keep subscription going, one has to keep adding/redeeming cards.

  • -7

Yes I am having the exact same issue. Speaking with Apple Support right now.

    • +2

always one of you around that ruin it for others…

  • Has anyone done this with an iPhone/iPad emulator?

Unfortunately I have no access to a physical iOS device.

  • Anyones family subscription ended but Onedrive not showing up new plans? It keeps saying I am still Microsoft 365 premium while the rest of my family members have gotten notifications that it has expired.

    • Yep, I’m getting the same thing. I let my subscription lapse and then tried all of the suggestions above to resubscribe with a Turkish iCloud account and no luck.
I’ve restarted the app, the iPad, removed and reinstalled the app and still no luck.

      • what’s your exact problem? @mhz

        • Pretty much as I said above.
I have let my family office subscription lapse.
Logged out my icloud account on my ipad, logged into my Turkish icloud account
Opened onedrive on the ipad and I have no option to upgrade to a premium account, it somehow thinks I still have an active subscription.
I have tried logging out of onedrive, removing and reinstalling the app and still can't get the option to subscribe

          • @mhz: @mhz send me a PM, I might be able to help you out and sign up for you on my side.

    • @dokyung any updates?

      • +1

Unfortunately no. Despite my family 365 account having expired for 3 days, the OneDrive app shows up as if I am still a Premium member. I even tried to log into my family members accounts to try set it up on their account and all their accounts are showing as a Premium member too. My only work around is creating an entirely new account and re-inviting everyone back in. Fortunately I had only 5 members so it was not a huge loss but essentially I have one account (the new one) set up purely for Turkish Onedrive activation. Not a huge loss but disappointing I could not keep everything clean. Maybe there is a work around or maybe I could've waited a few more days but with some of my family needing the Office apps I had no choice. Still thanks for the discounted Microsoft 365!

        • Thanks for reporting back. Sorry to hear you had troubles but I'm glad you were able to figure it out abeit some sacrificing. Hopefully this isn't a problem moving forward. Honestly very weird to see you had that problem - OneDrive showing a subscription but Microsoft saying expired.

  • So is the general consensus that this is not working anymore? Has anyone had success recently?

  • +1

Confirming this worked for me (13 March)

  • I'm happy to sign up for those having trouble. PM me your details (Apple ID + Microsoft & Passwords for both) and I'll sign up for you.

Just did it for @mhz and it took literally seconds

    • can I confirm this process only works for an IOS device ?

is there a way for a windows based pc ?

      • Well you’ll need the OneDrive app to get these prices soooo…

  • +1

Worked for me today, thanks OP.

Had to wait about a week after my Office 365 sub expired for the option to be available in OneDrive.
