Thought this was a good deal, I like Industrie product, and they do sales but never this cheap. Guessing it’s an end of summer sale so linen shirts got to go.

    Thanks..love my linen

Anyone else have trouble ironing linen? Got one from Uniqlo and barely wear it because of that

    • +1

You can never perfectly iron linen, just how the material is! Steaming it is a lot more effective if you are able to do that though

      • +1

Just hang it in the bathroom while you shower.

        • Slow spin, light load, plenty of fabric softener, then shirt function to low dryness in the dryer, then straight on the hanger, steam in the shower to fully dry on the hanger.

        • Never really understood how this would work, as you should either have an exhaust fan on or a window open to let out steam while showering otherwise it will encourage mould. Normally I'd just put the iron on the highest steam setting which would do a much better job since steam is being directly applied.

As long as one opens the windows after leaving the shower, it should be a-right (assuming one has windows in the bathroom!). Mould will develop if the windows are left closed all the time, not just while showering.

I find you need to make them damp before you iron them, like really damp.
Spray the whole thing with water first, or iron it straight from the washing machine.

    • Iron them as soon as they come out of the machine and then dry

    • +12

Linen is not meant to be ironed it is a natural fabric which wrinkles that is why synthetic fabrics were invented because the ironed polished look was preferred

    • Yeah sucks, which is why I don’t really buy them anymore

    • +1

I used to think steamers had to be the big professional things used in clothes shops until my partner picked up a little hand held one

Not perfect but does work a lot better on linen than an iron. Just a question of how much linen you have/want and if it’s worthwhile. Other options below work well too

This is the one I have, often on sale for 80-90 or so:
      https://www.philips.com.au/c-m-ho/ironing/garment-steamers

    • Thinking that too. A bugger to iron.
What settings are the Uniqloeant to be set for washing?
Places in wash bags and still sleeves come out completely wrinkled

    • I have no problems ironing linen, I just have steam flowing the whole time.

“$29.95 for standard delivery for orders below AUD$200.”

    Ouch

    • +2

That's for international orders. for Australia, the delivery page says that it's $9.95 flat rate shipping for orders under $100.

  • +1

No click n collect. $10 min for delivery

    • Thanks. No go for me

  • +1

Is it in store as well?
    Hate paying for postage

    • +1

Same, and also hate paying for return if the size doesn’t fit. I’m gonna go to a store tomorrow

  • Can i put this straight in the dryer. Will it avoid wrinkles

    • +3

I don't recommend putting linen in the dryer.

Its best to iron straight from the washing machine.

    • +2

Linen dries fast, just bang it on a hanger and it’ll be ready to wear in no time

  • -5

Lol, strong “My dad is a lawyer” vibes.

I remember how popular Industrie was back in the day. Surprised they still have shopfronts.

  • +6

Sweet. I’ll bag some for my Greece trip lol.

      Καλό ταξίδι!

    • +4

Me too! Where abouts are you headed ? For us it’s a road trip around the Peloponnese, can’t wait

      • I’m going to all the islands. Super keen :)

      • +1

Peloponnese is seriously underrated, great choice!

    • +1

Going in June too. Ozbargain is heading to Greece

      • +1

Haha don’t tell me we are on the same contiki trip 😂

  • Usually find linen are a more oversized fit, usually wear a L but ordering M’s, hope this ends well

    • I’m generally a medium in most brands but a 95cm chest in their mediums seems pretty damn small

      • +4

True, but the model photos are all L and they look baggy as heck

    • +1

Linen is not supposed to fit snug. Not only will it look terrible, it will feel terrible on your skin and it's also see through. The website says I'm an XL and XL fits me perfectly.

    • I'm getting kinda fat so I better get XL. Even if I lost the weight I'm still pretty tall so should probably get XL anyway. I'm sure Dr. Chase looks good in a large, but I'm playing it safe..

      • +1

How tall is "pretty tall" ?

        • 189cm when not slouching. Not super tall, but tall enough. To tall to be an air hostess though.

  • Can anyone confirm if this is available in store?

    • -7

My local servo only had pies at this time of the day.

  • Is Linen Shirts good for humid or hot climates? Is it cotton based?

    • +1

Yes it is, linen is from different plant.

    • +3

Linen is made from flax plant, it's the best for hot and humid as it's very absorbent and dries fast, so it'll dry out your sweat quickly

      • Creases like buggery.. particularly the thin cheap scratchy material (like these would be).

Good linen shirts are pretty expensive.

        • I had a look in a Myers. Seemed okay, I've seen both better and worse.

Hard to tell in stores as they tend to be covered in fabric softener, but then again linen tend to be roughest when new.

Regarding linen being 'supposed' to be rough and scratchy, I have had some very high end shirts that started soft and got softer.

          • @rumblytangara: Hard to say, may as well try for $30 then but who knows

  • Great price for Industrie quality…

  • +9

Tried these instore yesterday, feels quite uncomfortable with the rough texture tbh. The sizes were also all over the place and no refunds, exchange only

    • +2

Agree, the quality of linen shirts varies wildly, I would prefer the better quality ones (softer, thicker, less scratchy).

I have one industry one and have never worn it, think the fit is a bit odd with the shoulders or something (moves up when you lift your arms or something)..

    • +4

Linen typically gets softer with every wear and wash. Some of my linen shirts are as a result some of the softest clothes I own.

    • -1

100% linen feels rough and scratchy no matter what brand. You will need a blend if you want a soft feel.

    • Thank you. Useful feedback, will avoid these.

  • -4

I see linen shirts as an 'expensive accessory' as in something you don't really need, it's just a top up over you doesn't really serve anything; because of how light they are, you can go without it, and having to deal with creases everytime makes it super inconvenient. You may be better off with a non linen shirt. That's my take on it

    • +5

They're very practical for me, I use them over a shirt to cover arms and neck in summer from sunburn, while keeping cool. They wrap up small so are packable, and if you get the patchy coloured ones the wrinkles arent so obvious so no need to iron.

      • -2

Yeah but with linen you're limited to one to few in versatility. Whereas a good shirt is much more versatile. Wear it all seasons, roll sleeve up or down, pair it with anything and plus it actually serves its purpose haha you get where I'm coming from right?

        • Are you one these Facebook Trolls they talk about on the 6 o'clock news?

        • +2

I totally agree with this. I have several linen shirts. They are nice, but totally non essential and less practical than normal shirts.

But that's not a reason to always avoid them.

          • +1

@rumblytangara: Yes!! finally someone who agrees! and yes, I agree that it is not the reason to always avoid them. They have their place.

    • Hard to beat in a tropical climate.

  • These or linen shirts from Uniqlo?

    • this, had bought a couple from uniqlo last year, they feel cheap compared to Tommy or hopefully this

    • Uniqlo, Muji, not great linen.

  • +1

PSA: The XS are pretty baggy, had to tailor it down. I’m 170cm/70kg not XS 🤣

    • Was it a regular fit or oversized?

  • +1

Tried these on, they feel really itchy on my skin. Definitely best to try it on yourself before buying.

    • +1

      Junk hey

  • +1

Uniqlo are also selling their linen shirts for $29.9
