Absolutely love Carls Jnr! So much better than Macca's garbage, it still dumbfounds me how the dry ass tasteless patties in a Big Mac are appealing to people.

Also, highly recommend the portabello mushroom burger. For some reason, it's not on the in-store menu at my local, Glendale, but they definitely have it to order!

In Macca's defense, their Angus burgers and crispy chicken burgers are decent and I'll always have a soft spot for filet-o-fish.

The Angus beef pattys are bangin honestly. Its a lot of meat so a half size one wouldn't go amiss but id pay a couple bucks extra for angus beef in my big mac.

      • There you go - lots of people are going to find their shieeeguilty pleasure at Maccas. Something they remembered from being 8yo. Happy Meal was made by an evil genius.

        • Not so much guilty pleasures, more like sometimes at 4am, there's not exactly a lot of options around.

    • I tried it the other week. It was good. But so greasy.

    • It's not appealing… it's conditioning. (Mostly) single mothers, no idea how to parent correctly, taking their impatient spawn to the McD's play area after filling their sippy cup with the Coke in a 1/4 eaten happy meal which the mothers invariably finish off before never hitting the gym in their muffin-top stretch pants doing camel feet impressions. In the case of Australia it's created 2 generations of Pavlov's dogs… see McD's sign = start salivating and whining (more in the case of the children than the dogs with the latter).

      • Speak for yourself, I actually like the quarter pounder

Shame there's none closeby. Weird that we only have 1 location in Sydney but they're willing to open locations in Dubbo and Nowra.

    • +3

They're targeting a specific socioeconomic demographic. It's smart, arguably predatory lol

Plus Sydney rent/purchasing land is ludicrously expensive compared to regional hubs

      • Exactly.

    • +1

There’s two in Sydney; one in Wetherill Park and another near Oran Park. Well… three if you include Bateau Bay (a “statistical” inclusion of the Greater Sydney region). None if you don’t consider any of them Sydney.

I tried the Bateau Bay one years ago and wasn’t blown away. Tempted to give Carl another shot…

    • yep none in the Brisbane metro area either (except the Airport) :(

    • RIP sneaky burger once Carl jr's takes hold

  • Their vegetarian options are really yummy

    • Any recommendations? My gf is vegetarian

      • +1

The veggie star and onion rings 🤤

        • +1

When you said veg "options", did you mean that one burger and onion rings (and fries, I guess)? [edit: I can see they are that burger is the only veg non-side item, but still hope there's something else missed in the online menu]

Can't be worse that HJ's veg cheeseburger, but I should soon check if it's better than Rebel Whopper. At $9.95 it's right inbetween HJ's and Grilld's.

          • @pizzaguy: Rebel whopper isn't vegan or vegetarian. It's cooked on the same grill as the other burgers so it's soaked up in cow juices.

        Get a new gf?

        I kid, I kid.

        Convert her though.

        • I thought there was another name for them if they didn't like sausage?

    • About time someone found a use for them.

  • +1

Carls will do literally anything but set up a store within reasonable distance to the CBD of Sydney. My closest is like 45-60 mins north..

  • the closest store to me is at Knox city shopping centre, into the food court. They really should have tried to have a drive thru service.

    • +1

      Maybe they did try hard!

    • +1

Same, though tbh I thought it was in the Ozone thing? Either way, Knox is too much an effort. Odd time I'm out there I cheese a few Sporting Globe meals with the birthday voucher and move on.

  • I tried it the first time yesterday. The burgers were good, I like the refill drink selections. They even have ginger beer as part of drinks.

  • California classic , so glad this is part of their monthly specials.
Their brat burger is good too with chips on it( just like maccas April fool day joke only real).

  • +1

We need them to open a store in Perth, I love their wattle fries.

  • Went for lunch today. After finishing my burger, went to the counter and asked for an ice cream sandwich. Was told I couldn’t have it as they take 9 hours to make, wtf.

    • They didn't let you wait?

      • I was willing to wait but from the way they said it, it sounded like it wasn’t an option :(

  • Anyone know if they let you use these offers at the Brisbane Airport store?

    • Bit the bullet and downloaded the app. Looks like a no, as the store doesn't appear in the app ordering
