Odds are that this is some sort of hynix die (not ddr5).

I'm also going to bet that this DDR4 RAM is not DDR5.

Don't know why this was voted down.
I presume you were referring to the fact that:
For DDR4 Hynix tends to be not great at overclocking/ tight timings. (Samsung B is top tier)
While for DDR5, Hynix is top tier.

      • I suspect you are correct here, but unfortunately the majority of the ozb tribe tend to completely misinterpret their very own, and rather nuanced English language.

Then there's the simple sheep who just follow the leader and probably didn't even read the comment that they negged.

      • That was my intention but oh well. I tried to be helpful. That's what counts.

based on Kingston spec sheet, this is

based on sixteen 1G x 8-bit FBGA components per module

So this kit is dual rank for sure

also AFAIK, 1Gb chips that does DDR4-3600 CL16-20-20 (timing from spec sheet), includes the following:

    Samsung: B-Die, D-Die
    Hynix: CJR, DJR
Micron: Rev E/H/J (ladder is basically rebrand of RevE)
Nanya: A-Die (although it is achievable, it seems no manufacturer is willing to set this with tight XMP)
CXMT Die, (a new Chinese Manufacturer, not quite available outside China)

could be any of those above.

I personally would hope it be Samsung/Nanya/CXMT more than Micron/Hynix as the timing can be tighten quite a bit more.
But any of the above chip in a dual rank setup is about the top 10% tier of DDR4.

      Hynix DJR

      • It could be anything in the list above. Every batch could be different.

    • So does that mean even if it's the worst die (hynix) it is still better than say Corsair vengeance lpx 3200 cl16?

      • +2

        Highly Most likely.

3200c16 is so easily achieved, manufacture could use literally almost any DDR4 chip under the sun —- good ones, bad ones, anything. It could be from:

        • binning leftovers (say they ordered a lot of chip for making high-end ram, they x-ray scan and picked the top 50%, and the leftovers all made as 3200c16)
        • over purchase (they ordered too much good chip and couldn't bin them all, so they just do simple QC and make them all 3200c16)
        • cheap chips (they made a deal with Micron/Samsung/Hynix for a particular Die Revision, that Revision is so bad that it doesn't do anything better than 3200c16, they have no choice but to make it 3200c16 or even basic value RAM)

so if you know how to read Corsair/GSkill Version number, and you are in good personal relationship with a retail computer store, you can find maybe one or two good kits in the huge pile of 3200c16 kits.

unfortunately I moved locations and no longer in contact with the store I have good relationship with…..

        • The fact that these are 100% dual rank might get me to pull the trigger to upgrade my Ryzen 1700 with 16GB ram. All prior deals have been single rank.

    • Mine arrived today. It is Hynix DJR B2 Rev.

  • Wow haven’t seen much 3600 CL16 available recently, I assumed manufacturers had moved all the good dies to higher margin DDR5

    • +1

Oh I didn't know ddr4 dies can be used as ddr5.

      • Ah I think you are right, then not sure why there was so little 3600 CL16 around lately. Maybe just not making as much ddr4 and the good kits are first to run out

  • Pccg have Corsair vengeance lpx 2*16(32GB) 3600CL16 for $159 currently.

I'm not sure it that is dual rank though.

    • Kingston have spec sheet which guarantees it to be dual rank. Corsair does not have any definitive specification listed anywhere so it could be whatever achieves 3600c16.

(unless it's 3600 16-16-16-36, as that's the Samsung B-Die ultimate XMP, nothing else can achieve that XMP reliably)

  • Thanks OP. This will be replacing the G-Skill Ripjaws V that died on me.

    • Don’t Ripjaws V have a lifetime warranty?
