Wow fabulous deal, only wish I had disposable 2grand

    • +2

      Agreed
I bought the 65” a couple months back for $2650 which I thought was a great

Must have a lot of stock left.

  • +1

WOW, and I thought the A80J was a good deal!

    • +6

Though the Samsung definitely leads in PQ, some would still be more comfortable with the A80J given the formers QC issues with their first iteration.

      • +3

According to RTINGS, this is the superior TV.
        Couldn't resist, purchased, FML.

            @cheaptech20: It’s a good thing I hesitated.
HN dropped it to $1495 and TGG beat it by $30.

No Dolby Vision on Samsung TV's, which is something you'd want for an OLED display.

    • Yeah I’d never buy a Samsung for this reason - despite multiple standards, Dolby Vision is the most widely used.

  • Check out the prices of the s95C…
    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Samsung-2023-QLED-and-OLED-TV-…
Yes, you read that right, 65" for $5799!

    • The 55" is $3995 for an almost identical TV LOL

    • +2

MSRP is always a bit of a wank though. Should drop drastically by July as seems to be a fairly consistent trend. It's already down by $800 for the 65" at JB and it's only up for pre-order.

  • How is the Image Retention replacement policy with Samsung, compared to LG?

  • +4

I bought this TV (65") for Christmas and, honestly, I don't like it. I am happier with my older 2016 60" Sammy.

    What I don't like:
    - It doesn't support DivX… so anything AVI will not play. I have my NAS connected to it and it has been a royal PITA. I need to convert all my AVIs to mp4 or mkv etc. On that, can anyone suggest a good, free, bulk video converter?
    - The ads. My god, who the hell approved this? You cannot get rid of them. So in your 'home' view, you get a massive ad banner across the top. How could I not have know about this? Though my understanding is that this is pretty much standard nowadays - wtf.
    - The really weird changes to picture quality, depending on what is on screen. For example, I had to tone down the picture brightness, colour etc to get a more natural view. Great. Except when you, for example, open YouTube, the app screen is so damn bright that sunglasses are needed. Now when you play a video, it goes back to 'normal' (being the adjusted settings I mentioned earlier).

If anyone else has this TV and I am missing something obvious, or not obvious, to resolve the above… PLEASE let me know.

    • +3

Handbrake for video conversion, but I would just play your files through something like an Nvidia shield over the network (or plug the NAS into the shield?) instead to avoid the problem.

      • Does handbrake do bulk conversions? I have a lot to convert.

        • Yep!

      • I second the NVIDIA Shield option, using one with my S95b and works great, also allows it to function as a Chromecast that doesn't work out of the box.

        • Can you give me a run down of what NVIDIA Shield is and how it works? I would imagine it's yet another device to add (and manage) into the path from NAS to TV?

How would it work in my situation?

    • +1

Enable intelligent mode for display. Normally, picture settings is per source. So, you kinda have to change it for each app. Alternatively, you can just apply your default settings to all sources

      • Pretty sure intelligent mode was enabled out of the box? I could be wrong but I know I didn't like the default settings.

How do you change setting for each individual app?

On top of that, when I mentioned my example of YouTube above, the changes to setting happen within that single app. So the start page with the list of vids is super bright but when I select a video to play, it tones down to a normal view. Really, really annoying.

        • +1

I turned off intelligent mode and use either movie or filmmaker mode on all sources

Can’t replicate your varying brightness issue on YouTube
          Mine seems to be fine.
Agree the ad on home page is annoying and the app switcher is too small, but like you said from my research most of the new tvs OS now do this 🤦🏼‍♀️

    • +1

great real life review. Try blocking ads after reading this link https://lazyadmin.nl/home-network/how-to-block-ads-on-your-s…

    • +1

I also got the 65" one.
Compared to my old 2017 LG OLED, I still hate the software. No magic remote. Local video player is pretty primitive compared to LGs. HDR videos auto dim slowly that you have to press a button to reset the brightness back to normal.

I bought a chromecast 4K with google TV so that I can get over some of the software/casting/DTS limitations.

I'd still buy it again for the QD OLED panel if I'm going with a 2022 model..

The soundbar integration of this TV with compatible samsung Q-Symphony soundbar's is excellent. Just wish the software and remote were better.

      • Yes, I have a Sammy soundbar connected also (some 700 model I think) and the sound is nothing short of amazing.

Bought the same tv a few months back and I'm not having those issues so I'll send you my settings if you like? Re avi files I just use plex and it works fine so maybe try that? Have you got the latest firmware?

      • Yes please, hopefully I can get it to a normal state.

      • @peterg007 is it possible to send me your settings as well and which version firmware is it based on? thanks

    • +2

Use Plex and stream from the nas. Way better and will transcode for you if your nas has a gpu.

      • +1

Am I weird though for not liking Plex? I know if the pseudo standard but I just don't like it. I think it's too busy. I just want something nice and basic that only shows folders and files.

        • Jellyfin is what you’re looking for then. It’s the go to minimalistic Plex alternative.

        • DS video if you uses Synology.

          • @zyj494949: QNAP in this case. The standard media streamer is good but I have the avi/divx problem.

        • Kodi or get an AppleTV and install Infuse. Infuse is incredibly basic but looks great.

        • Emby is also a good option for this as well

    • +1

Why woukd you watch anything divx or avi on a TV like this unless it's old
      ?

      • Not sure why you would even post this comment. It's hardly helpful in any way.

To answer your question… because the original files were/are in avi format. I would assume that was obvious, given I said I need to convert them.

No dolby vision is a deal breaker for me

    • +1

If only the A95K went on sale for anything near this price. Looks like it’ll still be LG for me.

  • +1

Beware of the pink tint these screens are reported to have.
May be a deal breaker for some. For others may be non existant / noticable.

  • +4

Damaged box deal was bogus deal. Over 6 weeks later no sign of delivery, no communication from Samsung and fake tracking number.

Samsung AU added fake tracking number with expected delivery of 6 weeks later and put an out of office reply until 25th March. On 25th March they extended out of office until 23rd April. Any messages sent were totally ignored. Fake tracking number prevented me from opening eBay case.

    Worst eBay experience ever.

    • +4

Yep, 100% right. They took our money 1.5mths ago and zero comms, no delivery nothing. In the mean time I let all these other Tv deals go past waiting for a Tv I ordered that never materialised.

      Samsung service is the worst.

    • You got your money back right??

    • I didn't get my money back still. Been 1.5 months

  • +2

Almost paid $2200 for the 55 just 5 months ago.

    Went with LG instead.

  • Torn… the 65 for this price or EPP pricing on the 77" S95C is $5,579 (when buying with audio device).

  • +2

I have the 65” and I’m very happy with the picture quality. This is coming from a Sony LED TV. There a few annoying things like defaulting to game sound profile at times and having to keep on changing the sound profiles but pic and sound quality from the tv are good

    • How old was the Sony tv?

      • +1
        1. Led vs oled. No comparison
  • Anyone had experience trying to return a tv to samsung? jumped on the qn800b deal but am now having a charge of heart and want to swap to the s95b. have tried through chat but out right refused and they tried to send a technician out to 'fix' my concerns

  • So close to pulling the trigger on this one, not sure if the Dolby Vision is worth waiting on a deal for a different TV. Looks like rtings recommends the C2 over this one for Xbox Series X but the S95B as the best gaming OLED overall.

    • Dolby Vision is a pretty fantastic feature and it is a deal-breaker for a lot of people.

Depending on what tv you are coming from will probably influence your decision.

I had an ancient Sony Bravia 45" tv from 2011 that I was upgrading from when I brought the S95b 65" so the lack DoVi wasn't a big issue for me.

    • RTINGS are a bit dumb sometimes. The completely broken game mode HDR rules out this TV as best gaming TV straight off the bat.

      • What is the issue with the Game HDR?
I get that it's a bit over the top and not exactly the "creators intent" but I certainly wouldnt say that it is "completely broken"

Honestly is head and shoulders over any other HDR monitor etc I have used in the past

        • Not tracking anywhere near EOTF is completely broken as far as I am concerned.

Samsung partners discount (for verified, current employees of some big-name companies) brings it down to:
    55": $1399.13 (RRP $2999)
    65": $2099.13 (RRP $3999)

    • I doubt you will see these prices much lower let alone anytime again until 2023 TVs themselves get a discount in a years time when the next refresh cycle occurs.

If interested, recommend contacting Samsung loyalty team for a discount and you may be able to get a 15% or 30% discount on their current $1,599 55" and $2,399 65" pricing.

I managed to source a Samsung QN90B 55" for $1343.30 and do not think it is coming back in stock anytime soon - the best buyers can do is see if JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, etc have any stock left whatsoever and wait out or if using the Samsung Store keep tabs on any stock coming in - there may be a final run out on 75" QN85B again later.

    • Jesus that's cheap, I got the 55" for $1,749 and thought that was a great deal, $1,399 is insane. Wish I got the 65"

    • Glad I didn't pull the trigger last night on it, the pricing wasn't updated when I went to bed. That's good enough for me now!

  • +2

Price has gone down on Samsung Education Store too
    55": $1,439.10
    66": $2,159.10

    • 65" shows 2,399 for me.

      • Still showing as $2,159.10 for me

  • +2
  • I was gonna wait for the new models, but If I want to get it now, should I go for 65 LG C2 or Samsung 95b? The price is really tempting.

    • C2 for sure, even if for just the Dolby Vision capability.

  • +1

Got the 55" for $1.375 on The Good Buys ebay store
Its listed for $100 less and used a coupon to get $120 off

    • Lucky you, the caught onto it.

  • The best I can do is $1466 @ TGG.
I had it in my cart for $1420 on their eBay store but silly me didn’t act fast enough.
Oh well, think I’m just gonna bite.

  • +1

It's down to $2295 for the 65" at JB now…

  • Really good TV but the QC is horrible… I've on my 3rd one in just under 6 months and it seems like this one (which has lasted the longest) is now having issues…. Had this to me twice. https://imgur.com/a/cjEoaif the first is the image here and the other the whole screen went blue… Went away when i did a pixel refresh..

    • Yeah, I'm coming across a lot of problems with this TV but oh well, I wanted to compare it with the A80J I purchased not long ago.

  • Thanks! Bought for $2099 including delivery from Samsungs corporate partner discount site.
Currently rated #1 TV across all of rtings.com.
