Seiko Prospex SNE583P Solar Green Dial Sapphire 38.5mm Diver Watch $405.30 Delivered @ David Jones

160

I have a few of these. They are nice. And they have SAPPHIRE crystals. I don't have this one. It's like a mini Hulk, but different. I have a Hulk so probably won't buy it, as much as I like the green and solar convenience. Yes, I know about the solar Sumos.

The new GMT solar Sumos are an effing joke and ridculously over-priced, even with the super secret code to get it presale for $700-800 I can't remember. It's like Seiko don't know how to add another complication—like an extra hand ffs—to the 6R. While they have done it to the 4R; the Seiko 5 GMT with 4R34. Instead Seiko got really innovative and made their first ever solar GMT movement for the Sumo GMT. Wow, congrats guys, Citizen probably did it 10 years ago with their Eco-Drives, that also have alarms, perpetual calendars, world time etc. Seiko solar has a chrono, and now, in 2023, an extra hand for GMT, and are so proud of their achievement that they don't even have "solar" on the Sumo GMT dial like every other Prospex Solar. And released with it an RRP of $1200! And people actually bought it and was sold out in several places. They do look nice though.

38.5mm for the people who complain about anything over 42mm. For the "I would buy it if it was bigger" people, 38.5mm is perfectly fine, I own watches from 36-45mm (some G-Shocks even bigger) and my wrist is 7". Nothing wrong with smaller watches.

Not the best deal because I have bought the PADI version for $170 in a previous DJs sale, and the rose gold one for $350ish from Shiels, but this one is still $140 less than Starbuy. (I see you, drop it to $399 you cowards)

Wouldn't Starbuy do a price beat if you wanted to get it from there?

    • Starbuy price match, not beat (like Officeworks coming beating by 5%).

Pretty easy going to a DJ to pick up immediately depending where you live.

Starbuy do in fact do a price beat (I have had it done).
I guess an advatage from Starbuy is that the watches are "factory fresh" and not been on display.

        • Ok I was just going off the information on their website https://starbuy.com.au/price-beat/

          Price Beat:
If a competitor, being another Australian retail / online store, is offering a cheaper price on a product on an exact like-for-like basis, in its store or on its Australian website, StarBuy may price match if:….

Anyway nothing stopping you asking for a better price.

Yes pros and cons, would be good if you are able to check the watch in store at time of purchase, and ensure not display stock. Particularly good if buying a Seiko, the quality control is pretty hit and miss with misalignment bezels/chapter rings, second hand not hitting the markers etc.

Edit out of stock anyway (surely there would be some store stock). Anyway hopefully if you got a screen shot and it was in stock you could price match at starbuy.

starbuy have done a price beat on a seiko solar tuna. in fact, when i went to buy the watch after they emailed me the price the next day, i found it was cheaper still. so they essentially price beat themselves ;)

Yeah I got 28 degrees for that, but haven't heard much from those pricks since the data breach.

          • -1

@G-rig: the most recent email i got was telling me my d/l number had been compromised as well as the usual name, address, dob etc. but they reckon because an image of the actual card wasn't stolen, i shouldn't need to get it replaced. they didn't exactly give me a reason why i should trust their advice..

            • @tdw: True.. i signed up 10y ago and all the info has changed by now so hopefully ok. Haven't received any correspondence. Even with the Optus and ahm data breach, nothing ill fated has come of it.

Hopefully they still honour the price protection claims.

Not even mad, just disappointed as a life-long Seiko fanboy. Plenty of other watches to buy

    • Is it a deal for a Hulk? Or is it a rant about GMT movements? Hard to say…

i've got the "black series night vision" version of this (it's $599 in starbuy's latest weekend sale) and i can't recommend this series enough. for one, the bezel action is orgasmic.
