  Looks like I got the last rowing machine.
  I've so nearly bought a Concept 2 several times but always hesitated as I'm not a hardcore rowing enthusiast, at a third of the cost I think this will be a good alternative.

    I feel you, I could not convince myself (and miss) spending nearly $2K on something I may only use once per year. For $500 I am happy to give it a go.

      At this price we could probably sell it on Marketplace after a year and break even…incase you haven't had much ergo experience I'd suggest doing a little research on proper technique, my wife's a former single scull state champ and what she was able to show me completely changed my relationship with indoor rowing, almost got me in a boat with her😆

  Second hand Concept2 ergos in good condition go for ~$700 online (FB marketplace, etc), and are much better option even if you will not use it much. They will retain value until you sell it third hand, the design is much better, they are bombproof, they are serviceable and parts replaceable. I sell 8 of them a year secondhand.

    What specifically about the design of the Pure Design PR9 don't you like?

      The feeling during the drive will be sluggish, the return of the handle during the recovery will be slow, and their use of strap instead of a chain indicates a clunky catch (difficult to design a clutch for a strap).
