I got very confused how 2 speakers could be 5.1, before i saw it was referring to the bluetooth standard…

    • +2

Yeah lol same! Odd thing to put the version of Bluetooth in the name of the product I think.
Unless the intention is to dupe people who have no idea what they're buying and can tell their friends they have a 5.1 system at home :D

      • +2

me too, who cares about Bluetooth version lol, it would be old A2DP anyway.

    • Somehow like I was browsing Ali's item description…

  • +3

These look like they are ported on the front, so you may actually be able to put them on a bookshelf.

    • +1

Yep! and professional bookshelf speakers should be front ported.

I find only the home-theatre/Hi-Fi ones are rear ported and use 'Bookshelf' to describe their form factor but aren't really good for putting on anything other than a stand and at least 1 feet away from the wall.

      • +2

Down votes for a perfectly reasonable comment, typical of the level of audio knowledge here.

Rear ported speakers close to a hard surface = bad times due to strong reflections just out of sync with the front firing drivers.

        • +1

no worries, logged in just to upvote these - good spotting too :)

Edifier is great when purchasing these speakers since they tend to sound way more expensive than they are.

    • +1

They do lack some power, they aren't confident speakers when you turn them up, not these ones that go for $100 on sale anyway. But they sound better than Logitech speakers did for the same price. And they look a lot better too, they look like real speakers and not plastic toys.

      • Yeah I've got the s350DBs and they do not lack power

        • Do your windows rattle with the bassline in music, without the music distorting? That's the gold standard for me. The whole room should vibrate.

          • +1

@AustriaBargain: no, not at all - why do you ask?

          • @AustriaBargain: BTW I tuned the S350DBs with a UMT mic from MiniDSP and REW so that the bass is no where near rattle level and the whole response curve if way more flat… making $299 speakers into $1299 speakers… like that

            • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: 'cmon man, frequency response isn't the only thing that makes the difference between cheap and non-cheap speakers. If it was that simple then you could just use EQ.

(Written as someone also using REW and a miniDSP mic)

  • Hi all, I’ve been looking for good budget speakers to use with my Mac Studio mainly for video editing. Are these any good for that purpose? If not would you recommend any other brands/models? Thanks 🙏

    • I think so. The quality you get for this price is very good. My dad has the same set and i am impressed

  • Better than 1280?

    • +3

      Yes, 10 better

      • +5

        Interesting math….

        • +4

          Math better

  • +1

are these better than - Edifier R1700BT?

  • Also, i like these speakers because of the Qualcomm x feature, more stable Bluetooth connectivity

  • what's the cabling situation for these? do the speakers have a power cord each that needs to be connected, with no cable required (for bluetooth) between them?

    • One has a power cable. There is speaker cables connecting the two together.

    • +1

I believe they do need the cable between them. The second speaker is connected to the first via speaker wires. I don't recall there being any other way to supply power to the other speaker.

  • +6

Why do edifier make 10 types of BT speakers all around the same size and shape with similar connectivity and power?

  • +1

Boo! Deal breaker for me …

Please be aware of their not-so-popular return policy and 15% restocking fee. For an item that costs $99, you get only $84.15 back if you open the box and didn't like the sound or speaker itself, unless you prove it is DOA. So if you are returning a product worth $300, you get only $255 back. So I recommend doing a price-match with Office Works or JB instead of sucking up their restocking fees.

    https://www.centrecom.com.au/t/warranty

7- 14 Days Change of mind

2 If open (not new, not sealed, or the seal has been broken), a 15% restocking fee is applied, but the item must be in perfect condition with all packaging, manuals, cables, power adapters and anything else that came with it when sold initially.

    • So I recommend doing a price-match with Office Works or JB instead of sucking up their restocking fees.

Don't think it is stocked at either of those stores

      • +1

Oh I see. Anyways, that was just a reminder for who doesn't know about that policy. I have been to their stores a few times and seen people leaving with a puzzled face after returning "opened" items.. So I just posted a reminder.

    • +2

They don't have to take anything back at all if you change your mind. I don't like the policy myself but it doesn't suck to the extent that it does go beyond the ACL.

These items don't pick, wrap and send themselves to you, nor do they magically go from their mailbox back on to the pallet rack all at the same time self-processing a refund to you.

      • -1

Amen, people expect businesses to be charities.

        • -1

That's quite old mate, try something new.

          • @DAT: Doesn't change the fact it's true.

            • +1

@ozturtle: Well, that was sarcasm mate. Your comment doesn't make any sense. Going by your comment, all other merchants like Office Works, JB, TGG are doing charity by accepting returns and issuing a full refund!!

              • @DAT: They are certainly absorbing the cost of people trying things at their expense. Small business can't compete with it, them be the facts.

                • +2

@ozturtle: Now that cost statement makes some sense from a small business's perspective. But why do you assume that Centre com is a small business?

Centre Com has an estimated web sales of $10M-$25M. Centrecom.com.au attracts a monthly unique visitor traffic 240,629 visitors. Web Sales info. $10M-$25M

Going by the revenue of $10-$25M, that points to a growing medium-sized business.

So your original comment about people's expectations doesn't make any sense.

Why do you think that comment is against a business which clearly marked as "please be aware" !!

Edit: It's time for Mods to check for Centre com affiliates mucking around here as regular users.

      • +2

They don't have to take anything back at all if you change your mind.

Agree but I don't want fellow Ozbargainers to assume that its the same kind of return policy here.

These items don't pick, wrap and send themselves to you, nor do they magically go from their mailbox back on to the pallet rack all

Thanks Captain Obvious for being the self-proclaimed champion of capitalism. I started by writing "Please be beware". So if you don't get it or felt that as some anti-business propaganda, that's just in your head. You can't blame others.

Btw Are you related to these clowns at "Centre com"? if not, why so serious?

        • They're offering more than the ACL here, why so piszy?

No relationship with edifier, these 'clowns at center com' or whatever, nor claiming I am self-proclaimed champion of capitalism. You put that on me.

          • @djsherly: piszy because I've seen people leaving their stores with puzzled faces after returning "opened" items as per the aforementioned return policy. Had they known about that policy earlier, at least some of them wouldn't buy from that shop. Hence the warning.

"self-proclaimed champion of capitalism" is the title you earn when you talk like an eight year old learning capitalism. Let's cherish that statement again "items don't pick, wrap and send themselves to you, nor do they magically go from their mailbox back". Read it again like a champion.

    • Good warning. If their threshold for warranty returns is "DOA" then that would be unlawful, there could be all sorts of things that would be within the statutory guarantees below that threshold.

  • I think it is Sold out online :-(

can apply the coupon to the R1700BT also, bringing them down to $119. Not the ATL, but $119 is the usual discounted price.

  • How do these compare with R1700BTs?

  • +1

Is this suitable to replace sound bar for living room TV?

  • do you know when deals end?

  • +1

These just arrived. I am actually really impressed with the sound for the size and price. If they turn out to be reliable it will have been an incredible buy.
