Bought this online yesterday at this price and had it delivered this morning.
JB Hifi wouldn't price match as they said it was "low stock".

    • +1

I did price match it via JB HiFi chat.

      • +3

Lucky! The person I got on chat was very perfunctory and was unwilling to budge, so I gave up and took my business to OW.

        • +3

Yeah, they have a history of being like that. Not sure what's wrong with people.

      • +1

I also managed to price match it in store at JB. The JB staff just needed to confirm if there's stock at Officeworks and afterwards price matched it. Stacked it with discounted gift cards and JB perks voucher too.

    • P7P has 'Macro Focus' mode - uses the ultrawide lens

    • +1

      Looks like answer is yes

      • +4

However the product page says that Macro Focus is a 7 Pro exclusive feature. So there is definitely a lot of mixed messaging.

  • +2

I have P5 and this is so tempting. But it's just about a year old so dunno the P7 would be worth the change?!

    • +18

I'm going to make my P5 last as long as possible, as I don't think there are many phones left with hardware fingerprint scanners.

      • +5

I really miss my P5. I think it is the best, practical Pixel. Perfect size, fingerprint scanner and a great all-day battery. I am not happy with P7 size and not to mention the slow fingerprint scanner.

        • Yeah the size is the reason I've been hanging onto it (will never understand why huge phones are more popular), but with my partner struggling to find a phone with decent fingerprint scanning recently I think I'm going to have to keep it in bubble wrap.

          • +2

@imathew: The P8 might tickle your fancy about the size then. Not as small as the P5, but still smaller than the P7: https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2023/04/google-pixel-8/

          • @imathew: Are you talking about the PRO ver or just regular?
Regardless, sounds like I should try and appreciate having my P5 for as long as I can haha
I more often find myself needing to carry with me a battery bank.
I was not a fan of the P5 screen because it's too small for me to be reading books in, but since hearing these flaws about the latest devices I'm just gonna sit here with my P5.

        • i too miss my P5 for the exact same reasons

        • Wow, I can't go by the day without needing to charge it. Do you not use it for music, videos, all things multimedia? and apps Tiktok? etc

          • @PeeDee: Talking about the regular. I go to bed and there's about 30% left, charge it overnight. I listen to a lot of music and the occasional youtube vid but I watch no social media videos (FB or tiktok), and I read books on a kindle. I have wifi scanning off and I also turn off bluetooth when I'm not using it, dunno if that helps.

            • @imathew: Do you charge your p5 to 100%?

              • @PeeDee: Yep. It does that slow charge thing overnight.

                • @imathew: Ah I see. I'm charging mine to 75-85% because of how lithium works. This would mean that the battery will run out sooner than how it used to. It's the sacrifice you choose.

                  • @PeeDee: Adaptive charging over night works well, just dont leave plugged in when you get to 100% and don't let it go completely flat. Easy.

I've heard about people being paranoid about battery and not charging till 100% but don't think it is really worth worrying about, just top up where necessary.

                    • @G-rig: Yeah I figured that lol. But as long as your device is on adaptive then it should be fine or wireless charging because it charges super slow

                      • @PeeDee: Yeah guess just don't leave it plugged in for hours if it's fully charged.

I don't bother with wireless charging, takes too long and use a magnetic holder in the car so would have to take the phone case off to use wireless.

Although depends if you're keeping your phone for a few years or 10.

    • +3

I have the P7P and while it's great it has a few issues. Especially battery life - it's woeful. I'd wait until the P8 lineup is released in a few months

      • +1

Install GrapheneOS on it and your battery life will improve. WiFi scanning that comes with pre-installed OS's chews through the battery.

        • +2

You can turn off wifi scanning. But for me the battery on the P7P is fine but the Telstra 4G reception in Canberra is sh1t. The P6 was the same. P5 no issues. If I go for a drive somewhere it is always dropping down to HDSPA, meanwhile I can be in the car with my wife on her iPhone with Telstra 4G and her phone doesn't do it. I've been at my kids swimming lessons and don't have enough reception to web browse but people around me with iPhones no problem. Thankfully at work and home it's fine.

          • @Gabbatron44: Thanks, turned wifi and bluetooth scanning off. Now we wait.

          • @Gabbatron44: Update: turning off wifi and bluetooth scanning has worked - battery life is now what I'd expect from a 5000 mAh battery. It's a shame that features need to be sacrificed to achieve good battery life. First world problems.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yes wi-fi scanning can make location quicker and give more accurate, it's mostly used for privacy invasion. I've had them both turned off for years and never had an issue. I would also turn off bluetooth scanning.

              • @Gabbatron44: Agree, I turn that off for privacy and sick of the popups too. Actually had it on ha.

        • +1

Does installing a new OS void the warranty?

    • +2

      I'ma stick with my PS5

      • +5

can your ps5 fit in your pocket? and does it have a battery for portability?

    • +1

Stick with the p5. Was my intention to til my p5 met with an accident so I moved to the p7. Fingerprint sucks compared to p5. Size and weight of p5 are perfect.

Tbh battery was better on my aging p5 vs the newer p7 in my experience..

Camera is a stepup sure.. Otherwise the experience itself is pretty similar.. P5 is fast enough.

    • +2

Might as well wait for P8 which is rumored to be slightly smaller than P7 and therefore closer to P5 in size.

    • They definitely took a step backwards with the optical fingerprint scanner. I've got a P5 & 6.

    • I'm going to keep my P5 until Google stops providing updates.

      • Sadly I'm pretty sure that's the end of this year!

        • Damn, so it appears. I guess I will be scouring OzBargain for the P8 after October.

      • Watching videos and lives for hours every day, my 2.5 yo P5 is still strong. Also, unlimited photo and video shortage

        • Don't the latest pixels still have unlimited photo storage??
and how is your pixel still strong even though you said you watch videos on it for hours every day? That would drain your phone's battery up fast

          • @PeeDee: P5 was a very efficient phone low power chip but fast enough for normal tasks. As I mentioned above I had better battery on a 2yo p5 than new p7 tbh.

No the unlimited photos stopped at the 5 :(

          • @PeeDee: I think P5 is the last phone to get unlimited photo storage. My phone's battery health is still good compared to previous phones

    • +1

Yeah I had a p5 and loved it. If you like that you'd like the 7. Agree finger print scanner was good, face unlock saves this. Better battery and still good size. Think the pro isn't worth it and curved screen edges make protectors painful (p7 flat). Target is $699 or less (128gb), so this deal not bad.

Got a great deal on the P7 pre release from JB hi-fi
(and sold the p5 for $350 so the upgrade only cost about $200).

    • I have a 3a and it is still going strong. OK not as quick as current phones but adequate for my needs. Has a cracked screen which goes haywire if any water (even a rain drop) falls on it but original battery and still gives me 1 day 6 hours charge. I am tempted with this offer but will hold off just a little bit more.

      • Guess it's alright if it's doing the job..
I'd just wait till you see a good deal on the pixel 7 128gb (< $700)

        • Or even a 7a

  • +1

    Do'h! Paid $920 a few weeks ago.

By the way is this a price error? 128 GB and 256 GB same price?

    • +3

OW price matching system stuffed up
They meant to price beat JB’s 128GB variant

  • +3

    Good price for 256!

  • Hmm this or wait for the 7a which should be announced next month.

    • I'd say this, if you need the 256 GB space, otherwise 7a might be worth while.

    • You're asking if you should buy a flagship or midrange. The answer is flagship unless the midrange is cheaper and good enough for you.

  • Anyone know if US models work properly here, I was reading something about carrier aggregation and how it doesn't necessarily work well with overseas 5g phones

  • +1

Google I/O is in a couple of weeks, expecting 7a and other devices…you guys do know that's why these are getting price drops.

    • better than no price drops.

    • 7a RRP will likely be higher than this. Isn't 7 normally higher spec than 7a?

      • +1

Yeah it'll be cut down in some way..

Less RAM? Older Camera System? So far it's looking pretty close to the 7 though based on rumours.. Closest an a-series has been to the flagship at least. (maybe excluding the 5?)

        • I am waiting to see their foldable

  • +1

Ufff, epic deal. Buy it and live with the crapola fingerprint sensor.

    • +2

It is not great, but I wont call it the worst. The back fingerprint sensor was the best. Most on-screen ones I tested are sometime hit or miss. Pixel 7 may be a 7/10

  • +3

ordered yesterday and got mine just now
    $787 for Pixel 7 256gb

  • +1

Waiting for pixel 8 with a 6.16 inch screen.

  • +2

Great price. I have the 128Gb one. It's not the best mobile out there, but it's definitely the best one for $750.

  • Damn, bought the P7 128gb in different color on Google store this morning.
Guess at least I could choose the color and get $75 store credit.
    Good deal OP

    • +2

      Username checks out haiyaaaa.

You could order the 256GB as well from Google, and after order ships, they'll refund the difference.

      Then just return the 128GB.

      • Thanks for this! I didn't realise that Google Store had price protection.

My P7 256GB was shipped this morning. I paid $846.75 with a coupon offer. After submitting the price protection info and a quick 4min call with Google they've refunded the difference.

        Upgrading from a P3a

        • So you got both the price protection and the Google one Cashback ?

          • +1

@ShouldIBuyIt: Yes, price protection refund was processed and just waiting for it to appear back on my credit card.

My Google One store credit is 10% which should be about $84 – but have to wait 30 days after dispatch before it shows up on my account.

            • @jayesper: Nice. For some (obscure) reason only the obsidian is available in 256gb

        • What was the coupon offer?

      • Where dem aunties at?

  • +4

Came on to buy coffee. Bought a phone. -_-

    • +1

      Want fries with that?

      • got my "coffee" today. speedy delivery. unsure of brew time for this "coffee"…

  • This is a nice deal! I grabbed the P7P 256 GB for $925 so definitely a great deal for the P7 256.

    • @JoeBogan how did you get the P7P 256gb for $925?

      • They had a $200 voucher for a trade in running concurrently with a special price on the P7P

  • ultimate card can't be bought online right?

    • I meant can't be used online*

  • Upgrading from galaxy s9+ … this will be interesting!

  • -1

Yawn. Waiting for pixel 8 pro. Still holding on pixel 5 with free HQ photos and back camera is 95% same as pixel 7 pro

    • Just wait for the pixel 9 Pro..

Very minor upgrades these days, don't like how they change things for the sake of it to be more like apple etc.. the 7 non pro is great and couldn't see the value in spending more (actually prefer the smaller size).

    • Hodl for pixel 12 pro

  • +1

    You’re saving $142 for 128gb storage.
I mean, it’s ok but nothing to lose your mind over.

  • +1

Do they still give you free Cloud storage?

    nvm.

Google discontinued its free unlimited photo storage perk for the Pixel smartphones in 2021. Google announced that as of June 1, 2021, photo storage will count towards the free 15GB of storage that comes with every Google account. This is the storage that is also used by Gmail and Drive.

    • +1

Same discussion every post with pixel.
If you want free cloud storage, source a pixel 1
