I've been searching for a USB-C WQHD monitor for a while now and I've come across this deal on Amazon. It is the lowest price I've found for a USB-C WQHD monitor from a renowned brand. However, I'm not sure how long this deal will last.

Spec:

Screen size 34 Inches
Display resolution maximum 3440x1440 Pixels
Brand Samsung
Special feature VA Panel, VESA, HAS
Refresh rate 100 Hz
Package Weight: 11.62 kg

I noticed that Scroptec has the same monitor listed for $563, but the price goes up if you include delivery costs (which is at least $25) unless you choose to pick it up directly from their store. Thus, the Amazon deal, especially for Prime members, makes it the most affordable option available right now. Again, I'm not sure how long this deal will last :P

Here's the link to the Scroptec listing for comparison: https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/34-inch-and-abo…
(For Scorptec, the price is until 16th Apr 23 23:59 Or While stock lasts)

  • Nice find, thanks for sharing.

Wonder how this compares to Dell 34 Curved Gaming Monitor S3422DWG that's around $590 now. (I think both have power delivery via the USB C Cable)

    • +3

S3422DWG does not have USB-C. S3423DWC does and it is $697

      • Thanks legend! you're right. I'm comparing to S3423DWC and it sure is a lot more pricy.

        • +3

The S3423DWC usb-c didn't work with my MacBook pro because it needs MST to work unfortunately. Unless Dell updated the monitor… If you're hoping for a single cable solution on apple MacOS, do your research first.

          • +1

            @Felixrising:

            Unless Dell updated the monitor…

MST is the standard, Dell don't have to update anything, they are using the current and best standard available, Apple need to move on from just supporting SST and adopt MST as well. As this issue has been around for 10 years or so, none of us should expect that unfortunately.

            • @snuke: But then Apple can't sell their overpriced 5k panels…. why would they do that

              • @Paudius: It's still a problem with their own monitors.

            • @snuke: Some of their lineup has been designed and tested to work with Apples backward approach.

  • Or Xiaomi 34" (144 Hz) + USB-C to DisplayPort cable for $100 less when it's on sale…

    • almost all OOS

    • +7

Is that really comparable though since the benefit of the USB C monitors is power delivery/hub. I didn't see value in this before until my office started using them!

      • +2

Yeah the whole point of usb C monitor is the single cable video/power solution. Otherwise you can just get a USB C to HDMI cable and plug in any old monitor.

        • +1

Sorry, can you explain this further in depth? I'm not familiar with USB C monitors (clearly).

          • +4

@Pub Envelope: The "USB C monitors" usually combine multiple features such as a power-delivery compatible charger, USB hub (for connecting peripherals like keyboard/mouse, potentially networking connections) and the display itself. It means you get a single cable solution where you plug in your laptop and it'll connect to the display, the peripherals, network and charge the laptop… all with one cable.

Love having this at work in hotdesking since it's so much easier to move between desks (or even to get up to go to a meeting). Even better, it works with iPads (which support USB C) as well as some Android phones too (eg Samsung phones with Dex).

I bought the Dell S3422DWG last Sep as it came down to about $550. Didnt think much about the USB-C but I regret that now for the reasons @jace88 mentioned above.

I use a USB-C to DP. But have to disconnect each time I connect the laptops - Windows and Mac, use two separate chargers, mouse/keyboard for both.

The whole set up with 2 extra wires for the chargers makes it messy.

I have been googling for a very good hub that I can just plug any laptop to that connects to S3422DWG and not worry about charging and separate mouse/keyboard.

    • I got the Dell WD22TB4 and it works great with my work M1 Macbook Pro, and also works with my old iPad pro (although only single screen cos that's all it supports) even though that doesn't have thunderbolt. So seems great for compatibility.

      • Those TB docks are very expensive…. almost as much as this monitor!

  • +2

Been using this monitor since lockdown. Rate it highly for its multi purpose use. USB C to work laptop so it charges plus displays out. DP to gaming PC and HDMI as spare for switch but as of late now the steam deck.

From what I can tell, colors are great and have been gaming on it at 100hz.

Cant fault it for this price

  • How does this compare to the LG one posted this morning for almost the same price
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/769036?

    EDIT:
    100Hz vs 60Hz
    VA vs IPS

    • If not for fast motion gaming LG is way better

      • I'm thinking about getting the Samsung one cause I really like higher refresh rate, can notice the difference even when just dragging my apps. Although LG 34WQ75C supports 10bit color depth, why it's way better?

    • Depends on what you're using it with?

Went with Dell P3421WM to use with a MacBook.

LG 34WQ75C appeared to have issues with USB-C and MacBooks.

      • LG 34WQ75C appeared to have issues with USB-C and MacBooks.

        What issues?

        • USB-C compatibility issue? Or the wrong type of cable comes stock with certain MacBooks? :-/

A few negative reviews about the 34WQ75C and USB-C on Amazon.

          • @Tim Mc: Thanks, that second link suggests the issue is the OG Apple cable, replace that and it worked as intended.
            1 Star Amazon review:
"I’ve had the screen for a couple of months but only just got around to setting it up in my new office. I am disappointed to find a large scratch near the centre of the screen. On the plus side, it was very easy to set up and works well with my 2022 MacBook."

I think I will get a Dell S3423DWC to work with a Mac Mini M2 Pro and my work Dell laptop. I never feel the need to attached my Macbook to a larger screen.

  • anyone can advise which is best for wfh? 2 x 27 inch monitor or 1 x 34 inch monitor?

    • +3

Personal preference really. And I suppose it can depend on what applications you're using - for example, if you need to run something full-screen but still want to be able to have reference material visible, then a 2nd monitor is the easier way to go about it.

I personally prefer the single 34" ultrawide monitor setup - I find it cleaner, with no bezels right in the middle. Then I just use software called Microsoft PowerToys / FancyZones to quickly snap applications into thirds of the screen, so it effectively becomes a "triple screen" setup.

The 34" ultrawide could be problematic if you have to share your screen on Teams/Zoom often, as the ultrawide aspect ratio of 21:9 might not translate so well to people on the standard 16:9 aspect ratios if their screen size isn't big enough. To get around this, you can specify to share a single application only, rather than your entire screen, and simply adjust the size of it to be more in line with a 16:9 ratio (but if you're jumping between applications it doesn't work so well)

    • I use best of both worlds - a 34 and a 27. They are the same physical height so go side by side well.

I find I primarily use the 34 and the 27 is overflow when I need a 3rd window and for whole of screen sharing. Otherwise the 27 is handy to hold outlook without it getting in the way.

I sit in front of the 34 but slightly to the side where the 27 is. Laptop screen below is disabled so I don't look up and down, only side to side.

  • Been using this monitor for 3 years. Amazing monitor!

I use usb c for almost all the time. Tbh I haven’t even touched the original MacBook charger, it’s still in the box lol.

    • Do you get the 100HZ refresh rate with MacBook via USB C?

      • Yes I do

  • I'd appreciate if anyone can recommend a good monitor for productivity/video editing. I prefer two monitors to use with a Mac Studio. What would you recommend? Nothing super cheap nor super expensive. Cheers.

    • +1

If you do video editing I'd recommend those at lease $1500+ monitors. Some specs like 10bit, DisplayHDR 600+, Delta E < 3 would be essential for professional work.

  • VA…the prices are good, but do we really have to cop the smearing (especially scrolling dark websites with white text) just to get a 500-700 ultrawide? next best thing is M34WQ ips but that's flat screen and response times are very mid. im basically forced to look at the lg34gn850 which is $1200 currently not on sale :(

please any curved ips ultrawide 144hz+ with good response times and colour accuracy recommendations?

  • -1

Glad they used a VA panel instead of crappy IPS.

  • +1

Has anyone used it M1 Mac book pro?

    • +1

      Yes, works great.

  • scorptec is showing $799 for me? might bite the bullet and grab this one off amazon thanks op! :D

    • Correct, as per original post - (For Scorptec, the price is until 16th Apr 23 23:59 Or While stock lasts)

  • How much power does usb c output? Can my 14" mac powerup?

    • -5

It's unlikely to provide any significant power through the display. Definitely not enough to power a laptop.

      • +1

        65W via USB C

        • That's good, sorry for incorrect info. I've got a similar one which does not, and I thought that was consistent across these USB C monitors.

  • +1

Can two of these be daisy-chained side by side? Or would this be overkill?

  • I use this monitor for both work and gaming and love it

    • Does the monitor have any regular USB ports which work as pass through when connected via USB C to a laptop/PC?

  • If I run a separate Linux and Windows box, would I be able to run that USB-C single cable through a switch to switch between PCs?

  • +1

    2 of these or a a single 49" UW ? (I think that's about 2 x 27")

Only very very light gaming mostly productivity, video editing, photo editing Up until 3 yrs ago I used to run 2 x 30" Dell monitors. Space constrains in my apartment saw me drop back to 1 x 27" but I am moving so that will change

Looking for hive mind advice and points I may not have considered.

    • I have been using this USB-C monitor and had to buy another one because I broke the previous one due to my own carelessness. I prefer a comfortable 34-inch monitor and possibly even up to 38 inches. I have personally seen a 43-inch monitor and a 49-inch ultra-wide monitor in a store, and they were massive. My advice to you would be to physically see what a 49-inch monitor looks like before making a purchase decision.

  • Hey guys, any idea if this would be good with a mac mini m2?

    • Will be fine, but read the prior comments about macs.

  • i did it! i bought it!
Anyone have any recos for good monitor arms for this bad boy? It looks like the weight of this monitor sits very close to the limits for 'standard' single arms, but for the 'heavy duty' ones, it seems to be a little overkill.

  • Offer ended. Status should be updated to expired.

    • Just updated. Thanks

  • Just got mine delivered today, the eye saver mode makes everything look so washed out/pale. is that normal?

    • Yep. That's eye saver for you.
