American Express Essential Credit Card: Get $100 Back with $1500 Spend on Eligible Purchases in First 3 Months, $0 Annual Fee

120

Receive $100 cachback for $1500 spent on eligible purchases in the first 3 months. NO Annual ongoing fee.

Other key features:

  • 1.25 AmEx Reward Point/$1 on all purchases
  • 1 AmEx Reward Point/$1 on government bodies (ATO, etc.)
  • Smartphone Screen Insurance
  • Buyer’s Advantage Cover extended manufacturers' warranty by up to 12 months on eligible purchases

Finally decided to get my first Credit Card and was looking for a CC which I can keep for the long term to build up credit history. After a lot of research yesterday night in OzB, honed in on this one. Not sure if this is a long running deal and until when this is valid. I found comments where it was mentioned $200 some time ago and $0 elsewhere. T&Cs seem to indicate the information is correct as of 28 March, 2023 and also this:

Offer subject to change without notice.

There's a referral bonus as well which I think is different on a case to case basis (targeted), what I got from a friend was they get 15000 points and I don't get anything.

As always, Please read through the Terms and Conditions carefully. T&Cs available at the Card Description page.

Found this as a good reference guide to start as well: Australian Credit Cards
Also @Vulgar's comment here helped with the decision.

[Update]
Thanks to @qschzhyy for pointing this out. Opening it in Incognito from the same laptop shows $150 along with an "Exclusive Offer" label. Damn!! I already applied.
Maybe I'll take a screenshot and hit up customer service chat later on.

Sounds like a good alternative to the Qantas Discovery (entry level no fee points earner) - basically the same card but AMEX points vs QFF

  • "No annual ongoing fee"

Would this card usually have an annual fee ongoing and this particular promotion will remove the current and future annual fees?

    • This card has no annual fee at all. There is also a Qantas and a Virgin version if you prefer those points instead. It's a good one to keep in the wallet for those occasional Amex offers if you don't hold or want one of the other Amex cards. Only issue is that you remain a customer so you wouldn't be able to take up their welcome offers, which in my opinion is far more lucrative than holding this card.

Only drawback of AMEX so far is it’s not accepted in half the places I shop at including KFC, Aldi, Adidas …

the linked page showing Receive a $150 Credit

    • Random targeted offer. Open on another browser on the same computer in the same minute, and it was $100.

    • You're correct. Tried it in Incognito from the same laptop, shows $150. I updated the description. Hopefully someone is able to make use of.

Showing $150 for me in my phone but with below "disclaimer"
Please note that this offer may not be available or change if you return later or use a different device. Whilst this offer may disappear, taking credit should be considered carefully. Please do not rush your decision.

  • Is adding an amex card to paypal and paying through paypal considered an eligible purchase ?
