  • Hi rep - pictures show with the 4g sim card slot. Does the model you are selling have one?

    • +1

Most likely no, but will have a look and let you know.

      • Would also like to know thanks.

        • +1

          They are not cellular

  • Does it have Type C charger?

    • It comes with the original Dell Charger but it’s not USB C charger.
The laptop got a USB C port which you can plug in a USB c dock or charger.

  • How is the RAM configured? Is it 8GB x2?

  • +1

    Yes, it’s 8GB x 2 = 16GB

  • How long is it likely to take to process the orders? … (I'm considering ordering one but I'd need it (in Hobart) by next Wednesday before I head off on a roadtrip)…

    • +1

      Hi

These units will be out by Thursday.
If you need it urgent please leave a note when placing the order. So we can get it processed ASAP.

      • Thanks… Thursday would be cutting it a bit close for it to get here by next Wednesday (especially if you ship with Fastway, Sendle, or the likes, they tend to be pretty slow down here), I'll be out of the state for 5 months so it would undeliverable if it arrived after I left…

        • +1

          We only use Australia Post

          • @untech: Thanks, I'll take the gamble…. There wasn't actually anywhere through the checkout process to leave a note to request ASAP Processing so I sent an email… Order #2822… :)

  • Which is better for mostly tablet use, this unit, or the HP Elitebook X360 1030

    • +1

This one has 16GB of ram (compared to 8GB on the HP) so i reckon the Dell will perform better at most things

      • I realise that the HP has less ram, but the reviews I've read so far seem to favour the HP.

  • What sort of battery life would I likely get? Looking at replacement item for kids schooling.

    • +1

It seems these came with 2 different sized batteries, 42 WHr & 60 WHr, and the touch screen is more power hungry than the non-touch version, so the reviews for battery life vary a lot…

Also, the battery life-span is only rated at 300 charge cycles so at 3 to 4 years old the battery "may" not be too great…

  • Well, that was a waste of time… Mine arrived today, overall condition is "OK", there's a horizontal and vertical wear line on the screen where the screen sits against the keyboard, it's obviously had a lot of use due to all the scratching around the USB-C port… Battery capacity is listed as 35,800mWh out of 42,000mwh design capacity, (battery capacity history lists the capacity as 25,000mWh though, hmmmm)…

The deal breaker is the MicroSD card slot is stuffed, the card doesn't click in, it just keeps popping out, I assume someone didn't realize you need to push the card in to release it and they've forced/pried a card out and broken the locking mechanism :(

What a pain in the arse ! .. I leave on a 5 month roadtrip on Wednesday morning so now I'll have to stuff around sending this back and I'll be without a lappy for the trip, too late to get one elsewhere now with tomorrow being a public holiday :(

    • Thanks for that. It helped finalise my 'no thanks' decision.

In the process of making a decision I was dubious and asked about refurbishment. Here is what they said:
" We are working on explaining this process.

In the meantime, what I can say is that it depends on unit. Some units would need battery replacement, some would need key replacement and some would require a newer ssd.

Our process involves battery testing, hard drive testing, wiping, reloading fresh windows, updating, examining screen for bruising scratches, removing stickers etc. It can mean adding ram, replacing a battery if needed as well as generally we clean and polish everything. Refurbish generally means it has had a thorough once over and anything needing fixing fixed so it is in good operational condition / returned to original condition (or as close to as possible). Some units need minimal, some need a bit.

We pre-install windows and office(if purchased) and the licenses are provided with the device.

They come with original licenses. "

Clearly they did not do that in the case of your machine. They boast six months warranty so contact them direct, quoting order number and each photos. before you do that search for a computer 'stress test' tool and make it work hard to find whether there is another problem. Also run a Windows RAM test.

@untech will not wish to alienate ozbargain buyers but lost me already due to your post. I want to hear good results first time and every time.

      • It's unfortunate most the "refurb" sellers are just fly-by-night backyarders operating out of residential rental properties, storage units, or the likes… It's not the first time I've been stung by one of the "refurb" sellers on here…

They offered me a "generous" $20 refund if I wanted to keep it with the stuffed SD-card slot, I initially though they were joking, lol, they seem to think they can pay the return shipping, repair it, and send it out to someone else for less than that… I assume they'll just send it to someone else as-is and hope they don't notice, or they decide to live with it for a $20 refund… (Considering they claim to fully test their refurbs they must have known the SD-card slot was damaged on this one before they sent it to me !) … Their only other offer was to send it back for a full refund, I assume they don't hold any back as replacements, they sell every one they get in…

        Our process involves battery testing

They certainly didn't test the battery on mine, they listed the deal here on the 17th, the OS was installed on the 19th, and it was shipped out on the 19th, total OS run time of 1 minute & 46 seconds… I assume "testing" is just making sure it fires up and has a charge…

I cycled the battery a couple of times just to see what sort of condition it was in,
        DESIGN CAPACITY = 42,009 mWh
FULL CHARGE CAPACITY = 34,462 mWh
= 82% Capacity (Battery Bar also reported 18% wear which lines up)

… Lithium batteries are considered end-of-life when they get down to 80% capacity, after that they tend to drop off very fast, so the battery was basically at the end of it's life and would need replacing soon which would make it quite an expensive "refurb"… Dell specs state these batteries only have a life of 300 cycles, so a couple of years of "business use" cycling daily would put these well beyond their design life, I assume this is why they dont offer a warranty on the batteries …

I'll have to waste time tomorrow sending it back… This saga wouldn't normally bother me much but I purchased it to take on a 5 month big-lap roadtrip, leaving tomorrow, I usually use a Surface GO for travelling but decided to upgrade for this trip, and I committed to handing my GO to a friend, it shits me I now have to renege on the commitment I made with the GO…

Please don't take this in a different context. We are just going to address the issue raised. The message is not targeted towards you or any other customer

We are not just fly-by-night backyarders operating out of residential rental properties, storage units. We have big export/retail operations from Melbourne Warehouse.

Things sometimes don't go as planned. We always give the option of partial refund/replacement or return. We responded promptly to give you the resolution. In your case, you already mentioned on oz bargain that you are leaving on a trip and want to send this back. The appropriate course of action was to get the device back and give you a full refund because a replacement couldn't reach you in time. We don't want people to stop sharing their good/bad experience but we encourage customers to reach out to us first. And we do keep replacements in case anything goes bad.

6 months warranty is provided to ensure that if there is any problem, we are here to fix.

The claim that battery is not tested is false. In our original post we advised that batteries will be 75% and above. As you initially mentioned "(battery capacity history lists the capacity as 25,000mWh though, hmmmm)". The reason for that is because the battery on your device has been replaced to give you better health battery. That 25,000mWh is from previous battery.

In terms of grading, we stand by it. If you don't receive the condition we advertised or something slipped through, you can reach out to us and we are happy to make it right.

      • I forgot to mention… They claim:

        Condition - Excellent

This seems like a stretch considering the screen has been resting against the keyboard and there's a horizontal and vertical wear line through the middle of the screen, and little dots worn where the screen has been touching every key….

If a device with screen damage is Excellent condition , I hate to think how their lower "good" condition refurbs look…

  • Does anyone know if I can wipe the pre-installed Windows 11 and then install it again? Is the licence tied to the hardware or my Microsoft login?

edit: never mind, I just signed in with my MS account and now it shows as "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account."

Now I should be able to format and re-install without any issues.
