  • Only real issue here is the power consumption.

    • Have actually tested it and seen it uses that much more? Some have said its just the way it is measured e.g. at peak brightness, which would be uncommon in everyday use

      • The mini LED TVs are warm/ hot to touch. They definitely chew significantly more juice

Got 75 inch last deal. I was very surprised on the quality. I got a lg c1 and this was still very nice compared to oled.

    • +1

Are the C835's any good ? I'm looking to upgrade for a family member, was given the C835 as a suggestion. But a few online reviews turned me off mentioning how it wasn't a good tv for viewing sports and watching movies with 24hz content (juddery motion etc).

      • +1

I have a 65" C835, and absolutely love it. Haven't had any issues with picture, or motion quality whatsoever.

I had previously thought I wouldn't be happy without ponying up for an OLED, and this was a pleasant surprise.

        • +2

I'll check it out and see. I am not interested in OLED's myself (the threat of burn in haunts me lol).

          • @hawktalk: Marginal threat these days, and most companies will swap panels with verified burn in.

            • @Kitm: Those pixels are still degrading whether you notice it or not. Also, those "wipes" just degrade the rest of the panel to be in line with the original burn in point.

              • @JAKEBAB: Unnoticeable = no problem. Only expecting 3-5 years from a TV these days anyway.

      • Got mine at Christmas, love it. Watch plenty of action and sports, no issue with any juddery motion

      • +1

        This tv is simply amazing.
I bought 55 inch last year and i freaking love it.
I bought 85 inch QN85B just last month and the picture is great but also very expensive.

Go with the C835 any day

        • Regardless of price which is better picture wise 835 or the QN85B and which size 85B did you purchase.

          • @arsenal1: 85inch opps

          • +1

@arsenal1: I love the google tv on the c835. Picture quality i don't think you can find better for the price and I'm not even kidding.
You really can't fault the C835. Blacks are black as it should be and it gets really really bright.
Just go with the tcl bro

      • +1
      • I upgraded from the 75 c835 to a 77 lg cs. To be honest the oled is a whole different level to the miniled. I’ll deffintley be buying more Oleds in the future. This is a budget tv and it really shows in some areas.

        • Personally if you dont understand tv technology this tcl is great and recommend it to the average user. Yes oled is better but only if you appreciate the technology.

          • @Jklaro: for the average user i guess, but i was told the c835 was great for gaming this n that, and tbh it was a major disappointment for me and i came from a 4 year old kogan 65 there wasnt that much difference

          • @Jklaro: mine also had a dead/stuck pixel so that couldve been ruining the rest of the image/experience

            • @bob98: Black level and blooming would have been much better then your kogan tv?

              • @Jklaro: was obviously better on the tcl. but not the step up I was hoping for on a tv that cost 3x the kogan. the cs 77 i have now is genuinley the best picture ive ever seen all round. makes me think how good the g2 or c2 would be. i compared the tcl to the samsung qn85b also and found the samsung was miles ahead. to bad samsungs only last a year or so before shitting the bed.

                • @bob98: What do you find better on the qn85b? Also the Samsung qn85b is like double the price of tcl.

                  • @Jklaro: brightness, color and blacks were substantially better on the 85b and it was mounted outside. Reflection was also a big one the c835 was like a mirror in dark scenes, im not saying the tcl is a bad tv at all. just there are better ones out there for the same price or cheaper if your timing is right. 85b 75 inches could be obtained for $1600 about a month ago and for 2100 for about 3 months. qn90b was on sale for 2.1k shortly before it sold out.
i did so much research on the c835 its everything i wanted. I even paid about 2.5k with the extra warranty for it as I thought it would be worth it and it had been far cheaper before that. as I said my panel had 1 green pixel assuming it was stuck or dead im not sure if the rest of the panel was affected by it but it wasn't as good as id hoped for and was extremely glad when I got the option to upgrade to a different tv. also tcls customer service is pretty bad. I wouldn't buy another tcl product because of it.

                    • @bob98: https://youtu.be/RKqslFvHeEI

This spanish video is qn90b vs 835c and buy the sounds of comments he likes the tcl more. And thats the qn90b not qn80b.

But i dont have both tvs side by side so i can judge.

        • -1

Price doubled? then it should be better as a new, until it gets burnt mark on screen.

          • @Garcat: scared of a bit of burn in are ya? haha im covered for 5 years and its very rare on the new models, there's loads of tech built in now to stop it from happening

Yeah 825 is the previous version, the next one will be the 845 probably…

    • A lot older model

    • +2

I thought this 75" was $1600 in a deal earlier in the year

      • +1

has been around $1500 with cashbacks a couple of times. I'm holding out

      • +1

1200 before Black Friday last year ..cashback plus TCL promo for a 200 dollar good guys gift voucher plus a discounted price at good guys.. Heck of a deal..excellent TV ..picture, sound, OS are all great except gets bloody hot ..so not sure how long it will last … diodes and resistors tend to fail with too much heat..Still at that price a bargain if it lasts a year beyond warranty

        • Jesus I wish I got that deal. Here's hoping

        • Capacitors will probably go first. Take note if you hear a high frequency sound..a cap is about to go.

That byproduct heat means energy usage is roughly double conpared to a normal backlit TV.

Plus make sure you have a good aircon in summer..they are basically big heaters.

To put in perspective..they are pretty close to Plasma (I think the later generation 65 plasmas used less than a 65 mini led).

          • @tunzafun001:

            they are basically big heaters.

You are obviously too young to remember Plasma… my old 42" Plasma was 260W
Reviews say it average 100W which is the same as an incandescent light bulb, nowhere near a heater which is typically 2000W+

            • @1st-Amendment: Too young..I wish! All relative. A Fish tank heater might be 35w, heat lamp 150w, 2.5kw reverse cycle airconditiiner 600w etc.
Mini leds are in the 300 - 800w range.
Total heat displacement from them (and your 42" pana) is significant. Put your hand behind / in front of a mini LED in store..or plasma for that matter. Definitely by product heat there.

I guess my point is when power prices started to soar and LED tvs came along, people dumped their plasmas in droves.

But now here we are getting back into Plasma territory and more. Plasmas and mini LED tvs are great TVs. But just want people to know, they chew power.

Ie. Would be a bit short sighted dumping your 65" Plasma for a 65 mini LED tv if power consumption was the concern.

Also, if you are renting a small apartment, and the AC is poor… Its going to be a long summer!

              • @tunzafun001:

Mini leds are in the 300 - 800w range.

I just gave you that the average consumption for this TV as about 100W, this site says 136W: https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/3c312c19. Just because it is rated for 300W MAx doesn't mean it is all being used. eg my gaming PC has a 600W PSU and I have a power meter on it. At full power gaming it rarely gets over 100W.

But just want people to know, they chew power.

But they don't. They use about 30W more than a conventional LED, which is 0.8 cents per hour extra.

                • @1st-Amendment: First site that I have seen use an avg power figure. Cheers for that. If its accurate, it makes a total mockery of the Govy Energy ratings energy label sticker that is on every TV.

But I have to say. I have never observed the power going that low. I took a power meter into JBHIFI (they loved that), and it was always 300w+. Could be due to the content they are streaming. But its first hand info. Just touching the screens and back, they are hot. Normal backlit TVs arent. Fair discrepency to get to 136w.

Also, this is the 75 version. So will be quite a bit more than a 65.

Anyway, cheers for this site. Good to see someone using a (hopefully) standardised avg figure.

                  • @tunzafun001:

it makes a total mockery of the Gov

The gov is terrible at most things, there is no reason to not think that they are terrible at this too.

                    :)

                    • @1st-Amendment: Yeah, I was speaking to them on Friday.
Said the energy rating should be based on the average consumption using a standardised test video over say 10 minutes. Backlights all set at the same output.

At the moment "Pamaphonixs" can simply default their backlight level super low..and done..they have the "most efficient TV" according to energy rating. However, set right, its no different than any other TV… Teac did this for years. TCL do this now.

  • I have the 85" c825, it's magnificent. The fact the new models don't come in 85" makes mine a treasured possession

  • +2

Has anyone got any experience with the 55”? Have been in the market for something in my bedroom for quite sometime and wanted something sub $1000 that will be good quality for a while. Happy to take other suggestions/recommendations! TIA

    • +1

This would be your winner, probably the best non-oled bang for buck. Next set-up (a signifacnt one, OLED) would be the LG C2 55", but thats in the sub $1500.

      • +1

Well I have a C2 55 inch ..that has a better picture undoubtedly, but the 75 inch c835 comes damned close..well I might be biased ..I paid more than 2k for the C2 and around 1200 for the c835 so in terms of value obviously there is no comparison.. Picture wise the C2 is ahead by about 10% I would say and it is a noticeable difference ..sound is better from the TCL ..I am sure thats of no help to you so let me simplify it..for an oz bargainer stick with a c835 .. excellent value for money ..if you want the best picture quality money can buy.. buy a c2 ..or another comparative OLED

Edit.. If you do buy a TCL do pony up for an extra warranty like I did ..everything is great till it is not with the new players but picture, sound and OS.. at a decent price the c835 is hard to beat in terms of value

        • I'm on the look out for 75" maybe 85" (massive room with lots of natrual light) and the TCL c835 bang for back is amazing value compared to a 77" oled. 55" in a bedroom, would have me second quessing a bit and leaning back to Oled. If the picture is only marginaly better (others would say otherwise), plus the advantage the TCL has with the Google TV UI. I'd start leaning towards towards the TCL again.

          • @nomisg: 75 or 85 inch in a brightly lit room ..mate if you are thinking about it buy the c835.. it does not match an Oled but comes close..like I said previously buy additional warranty and you should be a happy chappy .. a 75 or 83 inch OLED is an expense that cannot be justified unless you earn from it or you have money to burn in which case you would not be here or you are in search of the best picture quality no matter the cost..in which case buy the OLED … the difference is not much but it is noticeable to me ..OLEDs are still the kings in terms of picture quality

    • You cant go wrong mate. Probably the best 55 inch below 1 band

    • I have the 55" in the bedroom. Coil whine is a known issue on the 55", they have since done some updates to mitigate it but there is still a hiss when the screen goes completely black. Also, it gets much hotter than most Tvs. Other than that, it's a really good TV.

    • My son recently cracked the screen on our 2 yr old LG OLED BX. Thought I’d buy something cheaper in case the little animal does it again. I’ve always gone with the big brands LG, Sony etc, Done a lot of research and ended up with the 55 TCL 835 and man am I impressed! Got it for $980. A fantastic tv. Nice deep blacks, very minimal blooming, picture quality is fantastic. Menu is quick. 3 yr warranty. Just buy it!

  • I got 55 for bedroom. The only complain was the initial set up. But overall a great tv for a relatively cheap price.

  • -1

I have a TCL oled and I reckon it’s better than my Sony oled

    • TCL OLED?

      • Yeah what?

    • what sony? find that very hard to believe when the c835 was quite the disappointment compared to some other brand minileds, oled might be different but im running a brand new lg oled now and there really is no comparison between the 2.

      • Sony A80J 55" Bravia XR OLED. Honestly the TCL is really solid. I’m talking picture, the OS is slow and crap but paired with an Apple TV runs great.

  • missed out on this deal however appliances central have the 75" C835 for $1720 delivered (was free delivery for me in western syd)
