  • Thanks Op - good price. What filter does it come with by default?

Like many others, I’ve grown tired of trying to find genuine HEPA filters for my Xiaomi 3H and Pro.

[insert mandatory note about potentially harmful ozone exhaust from this unit, alongside note that it can and should be turned off in the included software]

    • The 4 has its own filter. Since my 3H and below filter deal sold out in about 20 minutes Panmi have ordered significantly more for a deal next month.

      • Thanks, but I’ve not been able to find anything (other than from Xiaomi marketing) showing whether it is actually superior or inferior to the previous generation’s filters, or even whether it meets the HEPA standard.

Nor whether their life can be extended by giving it a good vacuum and covering the RFID with alfoil like the previous generation.

    • insert mandatory note about potentially harmful ozone exhaust from this unit

I'm sorry can you elaborate on this please? I've got two 3H units so am concerned.

that it can and should be turned off in the included software

What should be turned off, a specific function or the unit itself?

      • It only applies the newer generation 4 air purifiers and related to the Negative Air Ionization which can be disabled in the Xiaomi Mi Home software.

        3H and Pro don’t have this feature/flaw.

Plenty of discussion and links in previous Xiaomi Air Purifier 4 threads. And so the question remains whether the Gen 4 models are actually any improvement over the 3H and pro, not least with the increased filter cost, non-HEPA certification, whether it filters as effectively with air ionisation turned off and the ozone generation if you leave it on. It may well be that your 3H model is superior - albeit 64 max decibel vs 63 and 38 max wattage Vs 30.

I just wanted to debunk this rumour going around that this unit produces harmful level of ozone. Yes ionizers can produce ozone, but not all of them. I don't see any factual proof or testing done for this claim.

Please look at the link below of CARB - Certified Air Cleaning devices, where devices were tested by the Californian government to ensure harmful levels of ozone was not being produced. If it was being produced, they would not be certified.

  • https://mi-store.com.au/products/xiaomi-smart-air-purifier-4 "Negative Air Ionization", that's a no from me

    • UncleRico called it. It's pretty simple to turn it off and then it's good to go.

But then it's not effective. It doesn't use a HEPA filter, it uses "Xiaomi's High Efficiency Filter" which relies on electrostatic charge and mechanical filtration. The particles will no longer be charged, so they won't be trapped.

        • Explain more in laymen's term?

          • +1

@PuntyBrah: HEPA filters physically stop tiny particles from getting through.

Electrostatic filters have much larger gaps which cannot stop tiny particles.
Instead, the Ionizer charges the particles so that they stick to the filter instead of going through.

But if you turn off the Ionizer, the particles won't be charged, so will not get stopped by the filter.

  • If only it was like Daiken where you don't need to replace filters

    • -1

If it’s like the 3rd gen models, vacuuming the outside of the filter and placing some foil over the RFID chip in the base virtually restores it to ‘as new’ functionality and eliminates the ‘replace filter’ nag message.

If only a good scrub and some alfoil had the same effect on the wife…

      • So your wife doesn't read Oz bargain

        • +1

Yes, she reads it - when I let her, after her cooking, cleaning and house tending responsibilities are completed - but she doesn’t understand it…

  • Is the 3H filter compatible with the 4? I can't see anywhere that it isn't

    • No different filters.

      • damn that is a hassle, really wanted to HEPA or antibacterial one

        • There's a deal in May for the 3H HEPA.

          • @Clear: I have the Purifier 4, and they only have the one option for it

            • +1

              @hmac: It'll be from Panmi

              • @Clear: Will be interesting to see what they count as a “special”. Given how quickly recent batches sold out, I wonder if they’ll actually drop or match the recent sale price. Given the supply chain challenges and how many people will want multiple, I hope they consider discounts for 2x, 3x, 4x etc purchases.
