I'm addicted to looking at watches but the ozbargain in me keeps telling me that one automatic is enough ………………………… someone helps me get over that feeling to pull a trigger !

    • +2

think of the money that could be spent on other deals

      • +1

That precisely why i only have 1 watch despite looking at 1000 of them already. Not helping lol.

        • +2

Yeah but you need at least one quartz in case the auto stopped overnight & you're in a rush.
Oh & you also need a cheapo beater watch.

          • +3

            @WatchNerd:

            cheapo beater watch.

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Actually you need 2 levels of beater, a Skmei & Casio G-Shock.

              • +2

@WatchNerd: As I was reading down this chain I knew in my heart that you would recommend a Skmei, don't ever change WatchNerd

    • Its not a panda. Seiko's are thickk and heavy. Seiko's have quality issues unless you go Grand. Does that help you now? lol

      This is solar

    • +1

I'm now at 1 X Seiko zen garden, 1 X seiko Pepsi and 1 X Casio. All el cheapo compared to a Tudor or Rolex but it gets me by.

Found a hi-res image, as the one on SB doesn't really help with deciding on the colour. https://i.redd.it/syzk49f9aj081.jpg

    • Holy moly that is beautiful. Thanks for that

    • Lol looks like sandpaper. But it is nice

    • The OCD in me is going nuts that the tachymeter on the right is one click-out.

Hmmm.. afterpay, zip, klarna, paypal pay in 4 or humm

  • Gaaaaaaaah this is my favourite of the Speedtimers…. the golden panda. The want is strong.

  • I'd instabuy the black/blue/red version but the seconds hand is a stopwatch. I just want a seconds hand that is a seconds hand is a constant movement, ie, not a second or half second click..

    • +4

That is the case for most watches with a chronograph. What looks like the seconds hand is the seconds hand for the chronograph and then real seconds hand is on a sub dial.
Sweeping second hands are usually only found on automatic movements. There are quartz watches with sweeping seconds hands but they are not common.
I should probably also acknowledge Spring Drive, so @maverickjohn doesn't slap me.

      • Yup, sweeping second hands would be too noisy on a chrono dial

      • +2

😅 lol . Thanks for the recognition. Have to say though, the save with acknowledging spring drive has meant you have etched your name in my legends list

      • Ok.. what about another way… Can you set it so that it permanently rotates irrespective of if it's incorrect. It's not going to stop after an hour or 100 hrs?

        • +1

You can keep a chronograph running. In a mechanical watch, it's not good for the movement. In a quartz watch, I imagine it would drain your battery quicker.

  • Must resist. It looks so beautiful but saving some money for longines hydroconquest.

Thanks OP. My mate has a similar watch that he loves to brag about called a Daytona Rolex. I can’t wait to show him this one, much nicer looking than his white one.

  • Love my white dial Speedtimer from Starbuy

    • How much did you pay?

      • Can't say but I made contact and waited and the price was excellent..

  • +1

I got this one as my daily driver. I replaced the bracelet with pilot style leather strap. Looks amazing. Imho, the price is too cheap for the this kind of of quality.

    • this one by far

      • Which one Pem? Be more specific brah

        • Think he meant the one that's on ozbargain

    • +1

I'm really not a fan of that style of Seiko. It's a bit chavvy.

      • Which one is chavvy?

        • +1

          The SSC573P.
OP watch is pretty nice. I prefer the Panda, though.

          • @O15: Yeah I guess I am a bit of a chav - I'm not saying I wouldn't wear the one in the OP.. I would.. I just think that the one that I showed you looks more sleek and sports like.. something that a cool guy that knows how to fight would wear.

            • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: Honestly it's the kind of watch that illicits the energy of a pretender.

If you like it that's totally different from wearing it because it looks like a cool guy watch. In 2023 formidable opponents generally wear smart watches.

              • @Assburg:

                formidable opponents

                Lol.

                • @ihfree: I mean yeah, pretty much every good fighter is a good runner, and every good runner tracks their metrics with a smart watch.

                  • +1

                    @Assburg: Makes sense.

I pictured this more in a business context for some reason.

          • @O15: Is the panda a better quality watch than the Chad one?

            • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: I would expect them to be pretty similar in quality. They both have sapphire crystals, which is nice.
The SSC573P has more features. It's got perpetual calendar, chronograph and dual time zone.
The Speedtimer is just a chronograph.

              • @O15: So I SHOULD get the Chad watch, SSC573P?

                • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: I don't like the aesthetic but functionally, it seems like a good watch for the money.
If you don't think you will out-grow the diamantes any time soon, go for it.
Might be worth at least sleeping on it. Best Worst case scenario, it's sold out in the morning and you can do some more looking around.

                  • @O15: Is this watch better then? It has no diamantes - https://starbuy.com.au/seiko-coutura-ssc698p/

                    • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: I do find the absence of diamantes to be an improvement. It's also cheaper. Win, win.
If you truly do like it and if you have a wrist large enough for it (44mm is decently big), I think you should grab it.

It's not hideous, it's just not my style. It doesn't have to be, though.
As I said, it seems to be pretty solid in terms of functionality.

                      • @O15: What about the features? Are you telling me that it costs less for more? (i.e., the diamantes)?

                • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: I've got the SSC788, and on the wrist it doesn't look Chavvy at all. I very nearly tipped over to the black one but in the end the silver bling won me over

          • @O15: Hah, years ago I had a mate just get out of jail and he was complaining he was penniless. Then a week later he had this watch or something very much like it..

Either stole it or sold drugs to get something like it. What a waste of a human being..

            • @ankor: Why is he a waste of a human being though? Sounds like he's living life in his own terms fr though

              • +2

@BargainHunterJohnnyB: I have no time for meth heads who steal from their family.

                • @ankor: oh yeah that does sound pretty bad.. i thought he might have been a mad bank robber or drug baron,… you know.. the type of stuff that young lads aspire to be

  • FYI
Gnomon watches is running some discounts on Seiko right now with extra 5% off at checkout.

    $687.80 for SBDL085

    • Is SSC813P and SBDL085 the same model?

      • SBDL085 is the JDM model!

        • Does it make any difference besides one being for jap market? Value? Warranty?

          • +1

@cyrax83: I’d imagine the JDM to be more desirable and therefore hold slightly more value.

But best to dyor on these specific models

The additional 10% makes it more expensive than Aus stock.

      • I don't think I have ever payed duty on watches from Gnomon and have bought maybe 3 or 4 that are over 1k
