I agree. 20 years ago when I was considering Senn 600 vs AKG 601 there was no HiFiMAN, nowdays I would get HiFiMAN.
I still love the HD600's but I no longer own a set of them. Nowadays I mostly stick with a set of K712 Pro's since I personally find them to be a decent all rounder for music, games and movies and I'm a lot less picky than I used to be.
I have had fun with the budget ChiFi IEM releases the past couple years though, the <$100 price bracket has had some awesome value pieces.
$500 or less? Would probably get the 6XX on sale unless you're a competitive gamer. HD 660S is a 700 series driver in the 600 series hell and has a lot of quirks.
HIFIMAN HE400SE is great for detail on a budget but its imaging is too diffuse for gaming. The HIFIMAN Edition XS is $550 imported and probably the next significant stop on the mid-fi train after the 6XX, and has great staging and imaging for gaming.

Should I continue with my grado sr80e for my desk use or consider these for upgrade? They are quite expensive compared to my grados
It's a pretty good price but I'd recommend going somewhere to try them out before buying.
Mostly because I personally wasn't overly impressed with their performance but they might be to your liking so don't write them off outright.
I'd personally go for something like the HiFiMAN Sundara at this price point especially since they're usually much cheaper when on special.
