Geez prices are coming down fast I paid (granted higher tier) ~$400 for my Corsair 6200 CL36 kit.

    • 6200 oh my lord they are fast, my 3600 will look like a snail in a few years

      • +3

Joke of it is I can't even run them at the rated XMP 6200 because AM5's memory controller apparently can be a bit hit/miss with speeds above 6000.

BUT I did manage to get the timings a lot tighter down to 30-36-36-30 from XMP timing of 36-39-39-76 + Buildzoid's secondary/tertiary timings which saw a healthy up to ~10% boost in minimum frames which was nice.

Edit: running them at 6000 right now on a 7700X system with RTX 3080.

Damn, thats good timing for these RAM.

          • +1

@John Doh: Yea very happy with the whole system now. Tuning was finicky though despite overall not TOO much effort like for example I can get a certain setting to run fine in Prime95 but will fail in memtest or vice versa passes memtest with flying colours but will fail Prime95 and crash in Cyberpunk.

I should also mention that I am fairly novice at tuning/overclocking too but am fairly comfortable in the bios and I did a tonne of reading and watching videos before attempting anything haha.

Make sure you think about Cas Latency! Lower is better! A 5600Mhz CL28 is as good as a 6400 CL36!

    • is my CORSAIR Vengeance DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) 5600MHz C40 okay? :/

    • This is what im running - No issues!

    • I think about it a lot as I'm speccing a system and deciding between DDR4 and DDR5.
Lower clock with lower latency, or higher clock but higher latency.

  • Are these Hynix ICs?

  • Damn. Feel stupid paying the premium on some Fury RAM a few days ago. I know it’s better RAM, but probably not for the price hike I paid :(. Always the way.

I think the Kingston Fury's are all Hynix chips though so you can get your timings super tight like mine without too much effort and actually see a boost to gaming performance.

      • hmm i tested gaming with stock 4800 hz RAM and then OCD to 6200 and guess what, no difference

        • Yea I think (with the new Ryzen's at least) they respond well to tight timings (particularly secondary and tertiary timings, Buildzoid has videos about it and HUB did a benchmark test review which also showed it) more so than just pure raw speed.

Edit: here is the review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOatIQuQo3s

Timing tuned ram are actually performing better than untuned ram that are at higher speeds.

      • Thanks. I’ve only tried the ones in the BIOS, using XMP1 I think it was. I will need to try to do some manual tweaking and hope I don’t break anything :D

        • +1

As long as you don't jack up the voltages you'll be fine. At worst it'll just be unstable/won't post in which case just relax the timings/clear cmos and start again.

If it helps I left my voltages at XMP settings and just tuned the timings. Look up Buildzoid's video there is one specifically for AM5 using ASUS motherboard tuning secondary/tertiary timings and I literally just copy and pasted his timings. Good luck.

Edit: sorry I should also mention unstable ram may corrupt your Windows installation just something to keep in mind as well.

          Edit2: here is Buildzoid's timings video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlYxmRcdLVw

          • @basketballfreak6: I’m on a MSI intel z790 board with an i5-13600k, so I presume it would be a little different to AMD? Either way, good starting point on what is actually being done. I’m sure I can find some specific timings for intel if need be. Cheers.

            • +1

@zubzub: I'm no expert at this but I'd say it should be the same more or less when it comes to timings, if anything pretty sure Intel's memory controller is more mature than Zen 4's in that you can probably overclock your ram to higher frequencies (I had to settle at 6000 even though XMP is for 6200 because it'd blue screen/not even post). Go have a look at Buildzoid's videos he's got some DDR5 memory settings for Intel platform too.

    • I got these, the RGB is annoying, if I set RGB to odd then one stick is always stuck half on. RGB is the worst.

      • +4

I also don't see the appeal of RGB. It's huge now, but to me it just looks tacky.

      • I’ve only tinkered with the Fury CTRL program a little to dull it down a bit as I am not fussed on RGB, but I had no issues trying all the profiles. Wonder if it’s a hardware or software thing? I read so many poor reviews and people having issues with the Fury CTRL program.

        • I've been using the MSI software, it works for other RGB items but can't seem to turn off the HyperX RGB properly.

        • Yeah, not sure what their problem is, works perfect. I like the fireworks profile, but ended up with rainbow 🤣

      • To be fair, I would expect some strange things to happen if you set them to odd

  • Can be overclocked to 6000Mhz for AM5 user?

  • I paid close to $300 for Hynix dye 6200 RAM and experimented with gaming
take - when run at default 4800 or XMP - no difference
would go back and pick this up in a heartbeat instead

    • Just curious, what games?

I'm currently on DDR4, planning to get DDR5 soon. I was planning to do some sort of DDR4 vs. DDR5 in-game comparisons before selling off my DDR4 stuff, mainly for sweaty competitive games (csgo, valorant, ow2, etc.). Would be pretty interesting I think

      • I tested in God of War, 1440p UW, I usually play R6 and Rocket league but that gets over 250 FPS anyway so ram being faster doesnt provide much improvement there
if you are running older games new ddr5 ram wont make too much of a diff as FPS are all well over that of most monitors

  • That’s a nice stick of Dance Dance Revolution V.

    If you're chasing 64GB, 2x32gb sticks is $326.25. C40 though

  • +1

really that much performance difference between ddr4 and ddr5?

    • No actually. Not yet.
DDR4 has lower speed and latency, while DDR5 gets much higher speed but also much higher latency, so it can run faster but takes longer to get going.

  • Can I stack this with the RGB one?

    • Yes, as long as you're running the same frequency & timings. This would mean if your current (RGB) kit is rated @ 6400Mhz C32-38-38-109 and this one is 5600Mhz C36-36-36-86, you'd have to run your current kit @ 5600 C36-36-36-86 for stability as well. Additionally, once you've tested the frequency/timings work for both kits, you can manually start to fine-tune and find the best values.

If this kit is the exact same frequency & timings as your current RGB kit, you're good to go. It might just look a little odd considering these non-RGB ones are low profile compared to the RGB ones. Hope this helps.

  • Looking at getting this for am5, and play a lot of 4x (think Paradox games like Stellaris). Does anyone know if RAM speeds/types really make a difference?

Currently on some average tier and 5600x atm, and looking at going to a 7800x3d, so just wondering if something like this would be 'good enough'

  • Things are changing rapidly in this space.

Need Want a new pc but will hodl until later this year.

    • Very much doubt you will get a better deal on this ram in the future.

      • Yea, but I'm a few months away from building. Price tracking for this shows that it's trending down, so will wait it out. :)

  • Im so dubious of amazon ram after being burnt twice on previous deals where the vendor sent the wrong ram and then then 1 month turn around for refund.

The listing for this says 32gb. Then details say 16gb (not 2x 16gb).

    Hope it works out :)

  • Ive had this in my machine since September last year. Paid about 100more at the time. No issues running XMP on msi z690 board with a 12700k.

  • Paid $205 for this kit last time, great price.
