These things are great at keeping AV receivers cool

I use them to keep my router and NBN box cool. Since I have them going 24/7 I go through 1 every year or two.

Have never thought of that - thanks for the idea 😀

An overheating router can cause all sorts of issues like drop outs and possibly shorten it's lifespan. Some routers do seem to run hotter than others. ASUS routers and overheating brings up a lot of hits on google. 😉

          • @ozbs25: Got a TPLink AX11000 but have not noticed any overheat yet but will definitely get a cooling fan for it 🙂

            • @Tam: We have an ASUS GT AC5300. I does get quite warm I think. Don't use the USB on the router for anything so I just use that to power the laptop cooler.

I actually have 2 other fans connected to the laptop cooler as well. One of my NAS is a bit old and the internal fan is pretty awful. I have a small desktop fan blowing directly into the front of that. A while back during a heatwave I noticed my UPS was super hot. It was quite uncomfortable to touch when I took it down and dismantled it. Looks like either the fan or sensor is broken as it's supposed to turn on the fan once it hits a certain temperature. I have a 2nd fan blowing into that now.

Edit: Actually now that I think about it. One of the USBs is connected to the router. The other is for the UPS. The NAS powers it's own fan.

    • I use a Deepcool N80 for work and gaming laptop cooling and I would not place anything heavier on it.

This one is rated for 3kgs maximum load which will not enough for entry level AV receivers from Sony, Marantz, Yamaha, Denon, etc that are north of 7kg

      • Put it on top of the receiver so that it pulls hot away from the receiver

How did you get for 2 for $20?

    • How did you manage that?

  • Quite a bit of stock around too in NSW & QLD.

  • Will you feel noisy if you turn on this fan 24/7 in order to cool your router or other devices?

    • +1

Well, I have a whole lot of stuff running in a walk-in wardrobe with lots of fans and I suppose it is noisy but it I don't mind it. In the summer, I use a vornado in my PC room and I sleep with a vornado going so I'm used to noise I guess.

    Now $12 it looks like

    • Dang, I haven't even picked mine up yet. I'll ask them if I can get a partial refund or something.
