TCL TVs are the new Eneloops

  • Cracking price. Are these TV's any good when compared to the likes of Samsung, etc?

    • Mainstream VA panels… Potato / Potatoe.

Noticed lots of Samsung TVs on Marketplace with dead power boards lately. Guessing it will be a bootstrapped SMPS working its face off..$2 fix that Samsung will only charge $500 for.

Disclaimer…Mini LEDs get hot ..electronics doesnt cope well with heat. Old plasmas had decent caps, these days…time will tell.

    • Go with what your budget allows. NEVER settle for the cheapest, especially when it comes to TV’s.

You are every marketing person's dream come true…

I used to work for their direct competitor and I know the kind of deceptive conduct this country (to avoid hurting the snowflakes) pulls when it comes to consumer electronics. Good luck to those who are willing to take the risk.

        • +1

          I never do. There's always a difference.

Still have a couple Sony kicking around, a Panasonic plasma (awesome TV) and Samsung's too.

I find cheaper brand TV's always have slow OS or poor picture quality.

            @imurgod:

I find cheaper brand TV's always have slow OS or poor picture quality.

That says more about you than the TV…

As an example that anyone can test for themselves, the TCL C835 is currently cheaper than the Sony X75 and it is quite clearly a much better TV to anyone with eyes. When I compared them, the TCL was better than all Sony TVs up to the X95 model which is over twice the price.

But if you're happy paying a lot more for a badge, then you do you…

            • @1st-Amendment: Not sure why you're crying over it, I am speaking from experience myself and despite your claim, the OS and quality of the remote control, etc. makes the experience frustrating on cheap TV's.

I find you can always tell the caveats with cheap TV's.

My Sony, Samsung and Panasonic TV's have lasted nearly 18 years now.

Maybe it's time to go to spec savers.

Not sure why you're crying over it,

I'm responding to your post. Or is the fact that you responded to my post also crying? Is this forum just one big cry-fest every time someone responds to someone else?

I am speaking from experience myself

So you think that the base model Direct LED Sony X75, is has a better picture than the MiniLED TCLC835? As I said, that says more about you than the TV…

Maybe it's time to go to spec savers.

Yes, you better. But don't just take my word for it: https://cybershack.com.au/reviews/tcl-c835-mini-led-tv-bang-…
They review says it is as good as you'll get without going OLED, which matches what I see comparing in store.

The Sony X75 is a $1200rrp Direct LED TV that you can buy for $1200
The TCL C835 is a $2999rrp Mini LED TV that you can buy for $1170
For comparison, the Sony X95 is a $3799rrp Mini LED TV that you can buy for $2999.

So sure the X95 is probably a better TV than the C825, but it's almost 3x the price. The X75 in a worse TV and costs more.

This is Oz BARGAIN, not OZ badge snobbery, and at $1170 the TCL C835 would have to be the best bang for buck TV you can by right now, by a long way.

  • Is this worth an updgrade atm if I have a sony x9300d thats working fine? like is the image quality and everything that much better to just spend the money or should I wait til mine breaks

    • Wait till it breaks, much better image processing on Sony tv series.

      • +1

Thanks, guess I'll wait til it dies itself and hopefully newer and better selections then.

    • -3

      HELL no.
Whilst this TV is good, you’re coming from a Sony.
And yes, per above, much better imagine processing.
I have read several reports of poor motion handling.
Why do people neg just because they don’t like someone’s comment? Even if it’s factual or not.

Why do people neg just because they don’t like someone’s comment? Even if it’s factual or not.

Well your comment doesn't contain any facts, it only contains well worn myths and vague hand wavy opinionated statements

Whilst this TV is good, you’re coming from a Sony.

So the logic here is that ANY Sony is better than ANY TCL? Rtings seems to have a different opinion than you, hmmm who to trust…

And yes, per above, much better imagine processing.

Doesn't it depend on the model and the year? The Sony X75, 80, and 85 series are easily lower quality than the TCL800 series. the X90 is close enough, and the X95 and A80 are better. But this only counts year for year. I'd take a brand new TCL 800 series over anything over 5 years old from any other brand.

I have read several reports of poor motion handling.

Which model? This is kind of important don't you think?

OP has a 9300D which is a 7 year old equivalent to the X90K. If that's working fine then I'd stick with it, but the TCL 835 is likely to be better in every way.

        • -2

If you don’t know Sony’s motion handling is the best in the business, your long winded post isn’t even worth me replying to. TCL in RTINGS region (Canada) are nothing like ours. The is the same reason people lost their minds with the Hisense U8G IIRC people they thought the models were the same worldwide.

Lol if you don’t know Sony’s motion handling is the best in the business

Depends on the model, something you are clearly not aware of…

The TCL’s in RTINGS region are nothing like ours.

You are confusing Hisense. Hisense use the same models for different TVs in different regions, hence the confusion. TCL use different model numbers so you know it's different.

            • -5

@1st-Amendment: It also applies to TCL. I’m not trying to shit on anyone’s choice for buying a TV from this country. If you’re happy with it, I’m happy for you. But what I will do is spread awareness so people can make an informed decision 👍

              • @[Deactivated]:

                It also applies to TCL

But it doesn't. Here's the Rtings reviews of the North Amercian models, notice how the models numbers are all different to here: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl

Thy use series 4, 5, 6 for low mid , high end, we use 6, 7, 8. And even with the 6 series the same numbers aren't used, ours is the P615 and the S635, they have the R646 and the R655.
Different models numbers, your claim is demonstrably wrong.

But what I will do is spread awareness so people can make an informed decision

You are spreading misinformation and lies. You asked:

Why do people neg just because they don’t like someone’s comment?

Because you are making shit up. That is why.

Always love it when someone slander and prejudice a whole country but call it factual

      • +1

Thanks , I'll hold on to it but longer. Mine nearly died 3 years ago, half the screen was stuttering. But it fixed itself with no more issues ever since. I'll wait it out dies and hopefully better selec then.

        • I'll wait it out dies and hopefully better selec then.

One thing to consider is that the new models come out very soon and will cost full rrp. In same cases it can be over double what run out prices are. so if you can time it right the best time to buy is now when the run-out sales happen (or this time next year when it will probably happen again)

  • Omg… İ cannot believe my eyes… 25 dollars cheap than the current omg… Marvelous.!!!

  • Keep in mind the coil whine issue. Apparently, a firmware update resolved this by reducing the local dimming performance. I’m not sure if it effects the 55” particularly or all sizes.

    • +1

I've never noticed a coil whine with my 65" C835

    • For people who watch a lot of silent movies?

      • I don’t know, do you find that acceptable? If so, I guess it doesn’t apply to you.

      • I've left mine on and had nothing playing plenty of time and never noticed anything. I'm also usually pretty sensitive to coil whine. Unless I've just hit that age where I don't hear it anymore :P

  • 500 nits peak brightness for those wondering.

    https://www.tcl.com/au/en/tvs/c835

  • That's crazy cheap, I paid $1500 for the 55C825 (previous model) maybe a year ago if that..

And to the guy bagging out TCL, well my buddy has an LG C1 and my TCL supports a lot more direct streams from Plex than his.

Also, he gets the purple/green tinge on DV content, can't play Dolby Atmos or DTS, all of which work great on the TCL with the built in sound bar.

I'm not saying it is better than the LG, the LG edges it out with the OLED panel obviously.

Only down side is the OS/navigation can get a little slow if you don't clean up/close apps as you go.

    • No one’s bagging them out, it’s just that they shouldn’t be compared to a Tier 1 manufacturer. But you see, there are sensitive people here defending the brand because they feel offended that I have attacked them for their choice of TV. The coward neggers went hard on my comments but that's ok, I could care less about it TBH. If you wanna purchase a sub par TV, don't say I didn't warn you.

      • They are probably the best value and balance for price vs features, hardly a sub par brand.

Every brand has an entry to flagship range, and a TCL will give you features you won't get at the same price for a big brand name (a bit like with cars, where a Hyundai/Kia will have top tier features for the cost of an entry tier German car).

But be my guest and pay more for less with your cool brands ;)
