  • Great mic. Been using it for 11 years now. Best investment.

:EDIT: I don't have the + model. But still great mic.

  • Not quite as good as the $100 JB deal unless you can pickup in-store.

Wouldnt trust the online JB stock listing. Its a bit of a sham at the moment.

You can't choose stores to pick up from even when you know they have stock (either the stock card shows they do but forces you to pick up at a different location). When I searched for Samsung 128GB Evos it showed that most stores within 50km of me dont have stock. Managed to find one at a JB HiFi nearby on the shelf when i walked in.

  • worth mentioning here that this microphone is annoyingly sensitive and will pick up EVERYTHING. Even from other side of the house.

Investigate types of microphones if you're interested in a mic that will only pick up your voice, and not the baby crying 3 rooms over.

I've had this for yonks, but during online covid schooling, had to get another one because this picked up really frickin' everything.

    • +1

Are you sure you were using it correctly? It's pretty common for people to use this kind of microphone in the wrong orientation by mistake. You're supposed to speak into the side of the microphone (specifically, the side with the logo) but many people incorrectly speak into the end, and pick up a lot of background noise from elsewhere in the process.

That said, it is definitely quite sensitive to any kind of stray noise coming from within the mic's pickup zone.

      • lol yeah, i'm using it properly. kinda hard to use it incorrectly tbh, there's a light and everything. and the back is labelled as back.

It's not the microphone's fault. The microphone is excellent. It's just the type of microphone it is, that's all. These types of microphones pick up everything.

I'm just pointing out that if that'll be an issue, potential buyers would be advised to do research.

        • I concur. I had to resort to using Reaper's noise gate plugin and background noise filter (reafir) but in the end, replaced it with a dynamic mic ATR2100x-usb (combo xlr usb) and a usb interface. I got the m-audio mtrack duo and i don't recommend (volume knob issue).

  • yup. condenser microphones vs dynamic microphones.

I tried the noise gate plugins and what not, but they didn't work too well for me. i ended up using a different microphone (Sennheiser MD46). It was annoying to have it stuck to my mouth the whole time i was talking, but at least it wasn't picking up stuff from other side of the house (literally… with door to my room closed and all).

tl;dr- at2020 is an excellent microphone, but the type of microphone it is means that it'll pick up everything. if you're in a somewhat noisy environment (kids, family, construction across the street, etc), then do your research and consider microphone's that won't pick up everything.
