As an example, the CREE XM-L T6 LED Flashlight Torch Light Lamp which is already discounted at $12.99 comes down to $9.09 USD after the code. I got a couple of these when they were $12.99 and they are pretty impressive.

NOTE: Make sure you either have or get the appropriate batteries for any torch you purchase

This is cheap and potentially useful as well, save a whopping 50c :)

I didn't check every single torch to see where it ships from, please do remember that only items from the China warehouse ship free to Australia. If you find something that's in the US warehouse, you'll need to take out a mortgage to cover the shipping so be careful.

Also good to see they didn't jack up the prices before the sale. The specific torch I mention above is usually $14.99 and $12.99 on sale, yet it's $12.99 before taking off the additional 30% at the moment.

I think they have put an extra zero on their Lumen ratings. No way a $13 torch is 1,000. Still, a good output at 100 Lumens for $13.

Yes their numbers are quite ambitious which is why I didn't include them in my example above.

If you're referencing the torch that appears top left when you click the link, it's $13 before the discount code, closer to $9 after. If you already have some 18650 batteries, it's an amazing torch for $9.

    • They probably sell a matching LUX meter that will back up their claims. Same torches elsewhere claim 1600 lumen.

  • Any recommendations from this range for a good cheap one with a wide throw (not a concentrated beam)? I've got one or two half decent torches with a concentrated beam, but want one that has good spread, for night time crabbing with the kids on the beach in the Christmas holidays (once the crabs get out of torch light they take off).

  • Any recommendations for a AA powered unit ? I definitely don't need another charger or more rechargeable batteries .

I did get some AA 3W torches a while back, utter rubbish. 0.3W perhaps.

I got some around the $1 mark too and they were awful. Spend $8-10 on a quality AA one.

    • Some have adapters for 3 AAA batteries in place of the 18650 I seem to recall.

The most popular (user rated) AA torch that I have seen is the Sipik SK68 which adjusts from wide to throw. I always carry one in my pocket with a quality rechargable (turnigy LSD). It will amaze your friends as to how bright it is. Prob about 80 real lumens and the torch here is probably about 300 real lumens. Don't get an imitation one - quality control issues are rampant, get the sipik brand.

Meritline dont sell them. Focalprice are the cheapest I know at about $8 http://www.focalprice.com/LF571B/Sipik_SK68_Mini_Adjustable_…

Manafont.com also sell it for a little more, however their customer service is rated highly.

    • Any recommendations for a AA powered unit ?

If you want brighter and more efficient, get one with an XP-G emitter.
Will cost only a few dollars more than the older XR-E.

    • this one is really good (for the price). But i'm pretty sure you can get it for $6 on ebay

As others have said, take one zero off the lumens ratings. I have a few models, and they're not what they've written
