good luck to anyone fast enough to snatch a deal, 10 copies lol

Just sneaking in with the posting quantity rule.

  • Worth upgrading from a i7 8700k o.c @ 4.9ghz ?

    • only if you are quick

    • +1

Depends on your tasks, short answer, yes. It requires DDR5 though, so there is more to invest than just the $599, plus has a larger TDP so if you start pushing your system can it handle the extra 50 watts?

      • Purely used for gaming and yea forgot about the ddr5 requirement, guess I’ll pass for another year or so.

        • If only gaming, save a bit and get 7800x3d and whatever the cheapest mobo is that has decent enough VRMs to run it.

          • +1

@DeToxin: Why would you need a 7800X3D unless you are also running something like a 7900XTX or higher card?

            • +1

@Grish: They didn't mention what card they're using. I'm currently running an 8700k @ 5ghz with a 3080 and will likely be upgrading to a 7800x3d so thought I would suggest it.

              • @DeToxin: I’m using a 3080ti

                • @Believ3r: You are probably bottlenecking your gpu. I have an 8600k @ 4.9ghz and I am waiting for a deal on a 13600k or something similar to get the most out of my gpu. Unless your hyperthreading makes a big difference, there is a lot of performance left on the table: https://youtu.be/Dm8oz1XqjFI?t=597

Theres no way an OC'd 8700k consumes 50w less power than a 7600x

    • For gaming? No. Im using the same cpu with rtx 4080 at 4k. Wait for eofy sales to see the prices of the higher end parts.

    • I had 8086k+Z370E+RTX 3080 before, motherboard was rekt after 6 years which happened two weeks ago, I’m about to build with 7800x3D+B650-A.

fyi these 2 units together are about $664 at best.. so not a huge saving though still cheap!

    • +3

On their website, this bundle is $669. So you actually save about $70, instead of the ~$300+ listed on their site.

for whoever who like to get it, do note (a good number of?) some gigabyte b650/x670 mobo have a VRM that whining/squealing/screaming quite a bit.

was told by some online user it was solved in early production of 2023 batch, cant remember which week it was, about 6~8 weeks or so?

so if your mobo have SN like SN2306xxxxxxx you are probably in the clear. if it's like SN2250xxxxxxx you probably will have a loud mobo.

no sign indicate any performance decrease tho. YMMV & Good Luck.
