So good revisiting this game, holds up super well.

    • +13

I watched the Tech Foundry video comparing some of the changes and they are subtle but there are a lot of changes that really improve the game. Like when you look up in the rain the water runs up or down your gun like gravity really would make it, whereas it used to just bounce off no matter where you look.

      • -3

Don’t you mean Improving the presentation/ immersion?

The game is literally the same - scene by scene

        • +4

Don't those things improve the game?

          • -5

@AustriaBargain: In the immersion and presentation department, sure.

The game is still the same, and plays the same way it did before.

            • -4

              @YoursTruly: Negs for stating/ answering question with fact/ opinion…. 🤔

              ☕️☕️

  • Great game. Don't miss scanning the bosses or the shriekbats (like i did.. I missed ripley who is right at the end :/ )

    • +5

I think you were playing the wrong game if you were looking for Ripley 😂

      • They're both looking for Mother….

      • +1

Meta ripley is in metroid prime. I figured it was homage to aliens

        • +3

I think he's correcting that it's actually "Ridley"

        • +1

It is but for Ridley Scott and not Ellen Ripley. Still a cool lil connection though.

      • +1

        Ripley's Believe it or Not!

  • +8

    Metroid PRIME with Amazon PRIME

  • Really wish it was possible to sample switch games. Im looking for a new game but worried I won't like this!

    • +7

it's one of the best games ever made and that is not hyperbole

      • I never played the original metroid's. Will look into it more

        • +1

I also finished this recently, having not played Metroid at all before, and itching to play an FPS on my Switch. Was a lot of fun, fairly unforgiving and some good puzzle challenges.
Best looking game on the Switch IMO.

Did you have any reservations about the game?

        • +2

Played it for the first time with the re-release and generally enjoyed it. Previous Metroid experience was the 2D Samus Returns (3DS) and Metroid Dredd.

Prime holds up well even if you don’t go in with the nostalgia. Guess if I had any criticism it’s that it’s not always super clear where to go next and by the time the maps hint pops up you could be over on the wrong side of the map and need to do some back trekking. Also found it very easy to miss the markers for doors on the 3D map when you unlock items that will get you through a certain colour.

Pretty minor things all in all, and we’ll worth playing.

        • All the metroids are great, my favorite is super Metroid.

I wasn't keen on playing 3d Metroid as I was used to 2d, but 3d metroids are great

    • -1

If you have a good pc you could emulate it using Yuzu then buy if you like it

      • -3

If you’re going to run it in a PC, this would be the best way with a keyboard and mouse https://youtu.be/VEFtQDGvKvE

Could be argued even better than this remaster.

It’s pretty standard for fans to do a better job than Nintendo themselves. Just look how shit N64 was at the start on the Switch. Or how much better the PC port is of Mario 64 compared to the Switch All Stars port.

        • +5

They remade every single asset in the game. PrimeHack just adds mouse and keyboard controls. The two aren't even comparable, let alone better. Even with a higher resolution and texture packs, the Dolphin version looks considerably worse.

        • +2

The remastered version is a big upgrade over primehack visually

      • -1

Not sure why someone downvoted you but yuzu would me my recommendation as well

        • -4

Nintendo fans love to drink the cool aid.

          • +2

@PainToad: They're just video games bro. No need to 'other' people for liking different forms of entertainment.

            • -1

@Ninternet: Yeah there's also no need to mindlessly neg people for promoting emulators, especially if they don't have a Nintendo Switch and hence can't experience the Remastered version. It's not pIrAcY1!! to use emulators.

              • @Gnostikos: Yes, hence my comment about people's totally legal rIpS!!1 😘

Also I can't give multiple neg votes to any single comment, so even if there is a negged comment from me here, it wouldn't be just me sick of the endless justifications. If you were secure about your actions you wouldn't need to seek the validation of others by publicly bragging/mentioning that you use them on your expensive PCs

              • @Gnostikos: But I see you've taken the effort to go and neg all my comments anyway 🙄

    • +1

As someone else said in this thread I agree it was not always clear where to go and what to do next. I got lost several times on what I was supposed to be doing and had to consult youtube walkthroughs a few times.Sometimes it was a 'oh obvious!' moment and other times it was a 'how was I supposed to know that, it would have taken me hours to get back on track'. So could be a bit frustrating but have to agree it is a classic.

    • I suggest buying second-hand. Prices are cheaper than retail and if you don't like it you can likely sell it on for the same price.

I bought Metroid Prime: Remastered last week on Facebook Marketplace for $45. I'll probably sell it on once I'm done with it. You want it?

  • +3

Been at $49 at BigW for a while

  • Any idea how long this sale will be on for? Good to know re. BigW

    • +3

Until they run out of stock.

      • ta

  • +1

    This is a restock

  • +1

Got it for $49 from Amazon back in Feb.

They ran out of stock and restocked recently. Only Matching Big W.

  • +1

Ok I'll buy it now. Never completed it on Gamecube as not long after I got it, Halo 2 came out…

  • +2

FYI - If you’ve got an Xbox Series X/S, you can play this (GameCube) with Dolphin in dev mode.

    • With your legally owned rip, right? 🙄

      • +1

Yep. Very easy if you’ve got an old Wii around https://dolphin-emu.org/docs/guides/ripping-games/#GameCube_…

But I won’t judge others who source stuff from other places. I’m not the ethical police, especially if the “victim” is a company with $21 billion worth of assets, making $4 billion profits last year.

      • If Nintendo put their games on pc I’d buy them but they keep them locked to their hardware so it’s the high sea for me matey

        • +1

That's the same reason I break into cinemas!

If it's not on my TV at home they don't deserve my money.

          • @Ninternet: Films come to your tv pretty quickly though. Unlike Pokémon where your only option is to play it at 20 fps on hardware that was outdated in 2017 and pay $100 for it. If their games ever went on a decent sale it’d be a bit different

            • -2

@piston3461: Nintendo have always made original games for their original consoles. You wanting it on your PC that you've (likely) spent 1000s of dollars on has an element of entitlement to it.

It's like getting angry when a Netflix original doesn't come to Amazon Prime.

You're gonna pirate it anyway, but you guys always seem to be loaded with more justifications than will to actually play these things.

Edit: nice comment edit to add more details that weren't there prior. You don't have to play Pokémon at all. If you weren't personally wanting to play it, it's also an easy straw man to assemble for further justifications.

              • @Ninternet: Another poor comparison because I can just pay to watch the film on Netflix and the experience will be the same. Nintendo does not make their games available on pc. The only option is to pay $450 to access Zelda since you need to buy a switch as well.

Sony finally figured this out and put their games in pc and made money hand over fist from it.

Piracy is a service issue , and Nintendo is one of the last companies left who is too stubborn to see this. There are millions of pc players who would buy Nintendo games if they came to pc.

                • -1

                  @piston3461: Keep justifying

If cars were free I'd also have more of them. Ifs are fun

                  • @Ninternet: Keep being a nintenbot

                    • -2

@piston3461: That's a broad stroke assumption. I haven't bought a Nintendo game since Metroid Prime Remastered released actually.

And to be fair, it'd be much more convenient if you just said "I pirate because it's easy and I don't have to spend money" rather than muddying your argument with shifting goalposts all the time. At least be honest about your extensive reasoning.

            • +1

@piston3461: If your argument is 'quality' (20 fps, hardware that was outdated), I assume you also only watch movies on cinema-quality projectors or, at the very least, a high-end OLED screen with a high-end sound system from something like a 4K Blu-ray, right?

Because it would be silly to stream something at a low bit rate with outdated quality by 2006 standards at sub-4k resolution and a soundtrack that isn't either in Dolby Atmos or DTS-X, right?

Surely you wouldn't demand the best in one area of entertainment, but settle in others? That would almost defeat your pirating sentiment entirely, huh?

      • Fun fact a lot of people emulate games they own just like i do. If i want an immersive experience the switch doesn't cut it on my 4K TV, would rather be able to see what i'm doing. So i'll go out and buy a physical copy to support the developers, then emulate it in 4K.

        • -1

Sure. Good for you. I'd say most don't and that's not a secret. I'm not trying to say anything about emulators as much as I am the silly discourse this stuff creates - most of which is justification for downloading ROMs from dodgy sites in lieu of ripping a disc or, in this case, cartridge.

As for your immersion comment, I don't fully buy into that.

I have a 65" 4k TV and really have zero issues with Switch games on it unless I'm playing something like Rocket League online. Otherwise it's just a matter of adjusting for the few minutes where visuals aren't super crisp and then you're in the flow.

  • +2

Just finished this a few weeks ago. First time I played a 3D Metroid game. I was worried that it wouldn't hold up or feel like a Metroid game, but ended up being amazing. High recommended.

    • +2

Any other games you recommend playing whilst high?

      • +4

Haha, didn't see that typo, but yes, Katamari Damacy Reroll.

      • +1

See you in about two weeks, Link

Better have elaborate dungeons, catchy music and string narrative

        ☕️

  • +1

For where the switch is at and having played the Metroid prime trilogy in the last 5 years, and only starting to play this game = the quality upgrade is akin to Star Trek TNG Blu Ray remasters. I'm personally never going back to SD games if there's a decent remaster. The old GameCube Metroid Prime game ran at 480p, this game runs at 900p docked and 600p handheld, but the game looks and runs a lot better! Very well made!

    • +1

      On a CRT it’s still 100

      • I plan to play it at 480p on CRT when I eventually get around to it

  • Loved this game on the Wii. They used the controllers so well.

    • Could not play this on the Wii, the 3d map and trying to backtrack while using it was frustrating!
I wish you could leave markers on the map to come back later.

I have only ever played Metroid Dread which I enjoyed.

Just sitting on the fence about this one.

  • +3

Stop buying any games as approaching 12/5. I only have limited gaming time.

    • Same

    • What's 12/5?
I also have no time to game, but feels like I have to add this one to my list of games I buy and never end up playing

      • +2

        Zelda.

        • +1

I enjoyed it more when I revisited it.
You’re entitled to your own opinion but the majority do not think it overrated in retrospect

        • Imagine harping on with confirmation-bias fuelled anger about a video game of all things for over 5 years.

Edit: I actually read that article and it completely missed the point.

The kid who wrote it has a valid take at times, but singles in on the things that aren't why people like BOTW. The freedom, creativity and sandbox elements that allow you to approach anything at any time you want without the need for grinding experience makes it different enough from Witcher and Skyrim. HZD has incredibly narrow and linear level design (which is fine) when compared to BOTW as well. Invisible walls and guided white-lined ledges are the biggest examples of that.

Whilst his main argument is that Nintendo fans are blinded by nostalgia he fails to see his bias and preference for franchises that first appeared on Sony consoles. Hence why video games are not high art, science or philosophy when considering people can't express themselves and back up their "opinions" with any valid literacy or meaning.

          • -2

Imagine harping on with confirmation-bias fuelled anger about a video game of all things for over 5 years.

Imagine harping on with confirmation-bias fuelled love about a video game of all things for over 5 years.

            • @PainToad: I literally don't seek confirmation for things I love. I make my own judgement, enjoy it and hold on to that experience. I feel that's the natural progression of things.

I'm not using Google to search for articles from obscure websites where a young freelance "journalist" justifies my fringe opinions.

  • +2

To everyone on the fence about this… get Metroid Dread instead (amazing). I finished prime recently and while its beautiful the way the game makes you feel is awful lol.

    • +1

wdu mean the way it makes you feel awful?

      • It's more depressing/frustrating than fun.
Would of loved fast track as a quality of life improvement for it. Revisiting the same boring scenes again and again was unessesary padding to the experience.
Mind you I love the side scrolling metroids and it was my first prime play through.

  • +1

    $49 at target

    • Been $49 there since release

  • -5

Still got this on gamecube, which is all hooked up to a CRT.
Never played it though, so I guess no point in buying this lol.

    • +4

      Weird flex but okay.

      • +1

        2018 called…

Then again it's in response to a comment beckoning back to 2002 🤔

  • +1

Big W has it for 49 as well, so can possibly ask JB to price match.
