Swann SWNVK-500KH2 1080P 2 Camera Wi-Fi NVR Security System with 1TB Hard Drive $199 (Was $399) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Bunnings

200

Hi. Long time user, first time poster.

Saw this at Bunnings thinking it was a good buy.

Been looking to DIY myself some PoE IP cams, but this comes complete with NVR and 2 cameras. It is Wi-Fi, but if you wire the NVR to your router, the NVR acts as an independent AP just for the cameras and you can broadcast on separate channels. Not perfect, but saved me a lot of time figuring out another solution. The only other thing I'm not liking is being locked to Dropbox for cloud storage.

Seems to have been at this price briefly once before so this is the second time, but who knows for how long. Couldn't find an obvious retailer Bunnings were price matching. Normally $399.

Suggest looking at reviews and footage of swan cameras before committing. (Don't do it, if you're looking at budget go reo link)

I had a reolink single wifi cam, but at this price, I don't think you'd get the same features. But tbh, the main issue I had with the reolink was that it was battery based. Hence the 'upgrade'.

Have you not read reviews about swann? ozbargains most hated cams since forever

You can get Reolink 5mp POE cams for under $100 each. They will be several times better than these Swann cams in both picture quality and features.

  • Only 2 cameras, what's the cost to add additional ones?

Just checked the swann site and the only one that looks like it could be it is 149 each, but you can get the 4 cam setup from them for 359

  • Do u need to wire the camera into the central unit or into a powerpoint, as it doesn’t use battery?

  • You could have a power point in the ceiling like they do for downlights and then use a transformer or you ciuld have a wire going back to a central point, but that's not usually why people buy wireless cameras

    Don't buy Swann
    Use Dahua

I'd rather punch myself in the face than use another Swann product

    Just don't do it

    • whats wrong with Swann compared to others

        Software is garbage
Quality is lacklustre compared to other options in the same price bracket
Support is atrocious when something goes wrong

Step 1 punch yourself in the face

        Step 2 try swann products

You know which one youll prefer when you go back to step 1

  • Also look at Wyze if you're looking for something wifi in the budget range: https://global.wyze.com/

Throw in some SD cards if you don't want the subscription model for storage.

    • Do you have these? Which model in particular.

Yes, I have a few of these:

Pan V3 - outside as a sentry of sorts
Pan V2 - inside for pet cam
V3 - outside for passive security
Doorbell Pro - covers front door and parcel delivery

Just a matter of determining what your use case is. Most are 1080P unless you go to the V3 pro which is 2K

All require powering via a USB charger (so need to have a power source close by or run a long USB cable extension), unless you go with the outdoor models, which are battery powered or can be connected to solar chargers.

Reasonably reliable, do require a reboot every now and again, yet to have a failure - upfront cost is cheap, easy to scale if you have decent wifi

I bought these wifi cameras for under $100 for 2. They work smothly without any lag( well as long as you have fast internet) Though they are 1080p cams but their quality and reliability is awesome. Steady wifi connection, no battery, very easy to install and their quality is awesome for the price paid. You biy directly from Reolink ebay store. Night vision is amazing. Which I could post few night vision pics.
Reolink products are cheap and and reliable.
