Should have listened to the mrs and got multiple bottle in 2022… even on sale its so expensive now

    • they don't go bad?

      • +2

No not if they're sealed, I'd definitely use 5 year old sealed oil with out any hesitation. Just keep it in your garage where it's insulated somewhat.

      • Nope, regular oil is good for 5 years

    • +2

your mrs told you to buy multiple bottles? instead of asking why you'd want to hoard it?

      • +3

She supports my hoarding and use of OzB

    • Good thing i stocked up a bunch of 5w30 since all my vehicles use it besides the one turbo diesel. Hopefully will last for however long until we can nab $5 or less per litre again

I feel this is a much better deal for the Penrite 7 L 5w-30

    • +2

Your one is $10 per L ($70) and isn't as convenient to lug around due to its size/weight. OP's is $9.30 per L.

      • +1

Fair enough, w.r.t lugging a large can around, I needed 6.3L so that suited me. But also do note that Penrite one is an API SP ISLAC GF6A, is a much newer tech and better oil I think vs Castrol which is an API SL/CF… but for regular daily driver engines, it should be fine I reckon. cheers

        • +2

Im starting to see better deals on Penrite than Edge and are considering swapping over as both are highly rated.
Edge was around $32 late last year, i cant help feeling the inflated price is a lot higher than it should be.

        • 4GR?

          • @lomie: Yes mate, 4GR-FSE V6 on my Lexus GS

            • +1

              @dealt: Yeah. I have the IS250 :)
I've bought some of the Gulf Western 5W-40.

        • @dealt fair point mate. I didn't even notice they were different standards. I'm just looking at it from a 5w30 daily driver reputable brand type of thing. The 5L is a handy size for holden and hyundai oil changes at home :).

  • Why does the LL never go on sale? ☹️ This one is on sale every week!

  • These oil deals aren't very good lately are they, I can get 5L ACDelco 5W30/5W40 for $37 trade price. Exactly the same as Mobil Super 3000.

Needs to be $25-30 per 5L imo.

    • +1

      care to share how?

      • +1

Using their business trade card (requires ABN etc)

not really available to general public

  • Is this suitable for 2l mazda cx3 petrol? Supercheap says no.. but castrol says yes.

I'm gonna start changing my cars oil myself

    • +1

I'd be more confident relying on Castrol's results than Super Cheap.

I always go to the manufacturer to double check as in the past Super cheap auto or Sparesbox has advised incorrect parts - ie wrong brake pads, oil filter, etc.

Ie I double check brake pads on Bendix website, double check oil filter on Ryco website.

    • Castrol in their lube guide seem to think Edge 5W-30 is the best fit for nearly every car on the market.

I'd check your car's owners manual to see what oil spec and weight they recommend. If the Castrol spec fits, go for it.
