Well they lumped this one with 3D :P

    • Alternatively you can buy a plasma, which has a superior panel, all the trimmings and is still cheaper. I'm still amazed that people choose LED.

I like your thinking and that's exactly what I did.

A couple of weeks ago I bought the Panasonic ST50A for $1200 and that included a free Blu-ray player, delivery and installation.

The picture quality is superb, deep black, fluid motion, 3D works well with active glasses. The only let down is the somewhat slow Smart features, but I bought primarily for the awesome display.

Clever marketing / generally ill-informed public = fallacy regarding LED being a 'better' technology.

Anything over 32inch is plasma territory. Unless of course you enjoy parting with more money for an inferior product.

My father thought the same thing when I told him I purchased a plasma, he thought because LCD / LED cost more they are better and the newest technology.

I then played him Timescapes in 1080p and he understood :)

I guess you don't really see that much advertising for Plasmas in comparison, and because desktop monitors are LCD / LED there is an assumption that it's the best technology for displays (regardless as to their use).

I just thought I'd post another option that I've been happy with for anyone looking to buy a TV.

  • Review is in here:

    http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/tvs/kogan/55_3d_led_tv_…

Surprisingly good for a "Kogan" brand.

    I am a bit tempted. :)

  • 1 pair of glasses, ghosting in 3D, 2D->3D not good.
    I got a LG 42" + 3D Player + 15 and more 3D glasses (from the cinema) for 1200 with a cashback of $150 (Still waiting).

  • Like the 5.0 stars "review" at http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/55-led-tv-3D-full-hd-pvr/#produc… - redacted for emphasis:

Thanks Kogan!! I'm sure if the big companies were not interested in having a semi-respectable brand, they would rebadge the cheapest and nastiest Chinese junk available too.

    • Many already do - Soniq at JB HiFi, Bauhn at Aldi, Schaub Lorenz at Encel Stereo, etc. Anyone can be a rebrander - just need a "smart" marketing campaign targeting particularly market segment, most likely ignorant, less discerning or poor audience. A segment on Today Tonight or A Current Affair (with the brand in the background) usually suffices.

There's no shortage of rebrands using formerly dead but now resurrected brand names - AWA, Grundig, Teac, Telefunken, Akai, etc.

    cant recomed this,..

    1. it used to be $789 a few months ago.

    but more importantly

    1. its missing basic smart features, like dlan, ect…

paying a little more, few hundred bucks youll get a better pannel with more features..

kogan are great for smaller items taht are very cheap, not in this market though, just my opinion, and id rather pay a little more 30% and get something good as ill watch it for years and will notice the dif

Panasonic THP55UT50A (plasma) is $300 more than this. Not bad considering it's simply a brilliant panel, not to mention it'd outperform any LED on the market… let alone this Kogan.

AWARD WINNING? what award… dodgy company of the year? most crappiest website that crashes on peak periods? i would love to know the award?
They still owe me $5 for over charging my Paypal account from this http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75876
I will not buy from this company again …i know it was a shitty mug but the way they handled the refund was inexcusable I STILL HAVE NOT GOT MY $5 BACK YET!!!

$1100 is a lot of money, don't spend it on a garbage TV. Buy a pana plasma if you want a big TV for less than a big brand led,or wait until later in the year. the 2012 models of TV only recently came out so prices are not sharp right now, like they were for the 2011 models not that long ago. And differences between the models tends to be minor.

I won't neg because the price is about right for a generic 55 led this time of year, but I wouldn't buy one if I was in the market either.
