I find the ones that hug close are not comfortable. I have some and after a day of wearing it, when I take them off I feel this release like my skin can finally breathe again.

[PSA] Anaconda has a ski sale on until 2nd June and using the $10 off vouchers gets prices to:

    • Adults jackets & pants $49
    • Kids jackets & pants $39

Quality is as good as Aldi. Colours are different, some a lot brighter, so potentially easier to find each other on the mountain

Based on shrugies's comment above, ALDI one seems better based on waterproof/breathable test.

The Anaconda snow jackets are 5k/5k compared to the Aldi's 12k/10k. Basically trash.

I've enjoyed the Merino thermals. I couldn't justify the high cost of Merino thermals before so it has been an introduction to me on their quality.

Jerry Springer may be dead but his memory remains at Aldi Snow gear sale.

  • Has anyone got ski goggle recommendations - do you get what you paid for? Is fog free a myth?

Wool style ski socks as well - any brands to look out for? I can see thorlo ski socks for about $30, but that seems expensive.

I was skiing at Mt Buller last August, saw a tent and stopped. it was Oakley Goggles and they were letting people trial their goggles. I use Prizm glasses when I'm riding my bike so I trialed some Oakley Flight Deck XL Goggles and they were awesome. Obviously being an OzBargainer I didn't buy where they directed me, I hopped onto the internet and found a pair on deep discount at sportpursuit.

      • What the trick to get them to fog up less?

Is it apply anti fog everytime or these Oakley have some anti fog tech to them?

        • The better googles have double lenses (double sheets of lens with a gap between them) and some type of anti fog coating. I think they fog up because there is moisture and a big temperature difference between the different sides. I only really get fogging if I have my face/neck warmer up over my mouth and nose and my warm/moist breath is somehow going up into my goggles. I normally pull my neck warmer up over my face on the lift but pull it down to my chin when I get to the top of the lift. If you ski with your face/mouth/nose covered up you will prbably get fogging.

My vision gets in trouble with rain/sleet/snow on the outside of the lens. I try to be careful and use a micro cloth etc to clean it off but I cant help mid-run using my glove and accidentally scratching the lenses.

Aldi socks have treated me well, they usually have merino ones.

I think you do get what you pay for with goggles, at least up until a certain pricepoint. Something with magnetic lenses (anon m series for example) can be really handy as it takes 5 seconds to switch lenses, incase they've fogged and then frozen.
Personally I think fog free is a bit of a myth, but it mainly depends on how hot you run, how cold it is outside and how much exertion you're doing.

      • Ski goggles are awesome to use while spraying the garden or DIY termite sprays with Fipronil etc. Full on PPE YO!

I have used a couple of cheap goggles- £20 ones from Sports Direct in the UK, that were really bad and foggy, £30ish ones from Amazon with the best review score and were significantly better, and then my inlaws bought me some Oakley Flight Deck Prizms (THANKS!!) and they are much better again. Mainly the clarity- you can just see so much better with them. I think completely fog free is a bit of a lie, I run very hot so they do get some marks, but it usually disappears on its own very quickly rather than stopping and wiping.

Obviously you're paying at least $100 extra for a brand name, so it's not good value, but they are also a better product.

    • I bought some Bolle (sorry can't recall the model) at Costco and they are great. I had a pair of Oakley which were good, but after about 10 years they're scratched up and needed replacing. Also got a Bolle helmet at Costco for like $50.

  • Bought a whole set of gear in 2021 I think to go skiing in Victoria. Then Melbourne had a lock down and they've been sitting in a box unused since :)

    • Maybe you can use it this season.

  • shame, I waited whole year for this sale and im going to be away that weekend where there's no aldi. fml

  • Do they have bigger sizes this year for the very fat?

  • It's quite an expensive seasonal activity, a grand just to kit up for a family of 4 in Aldi gear, that's before leaving the house. Guess not too bad if you can get a few seasons out of them.

    • +1

      Best to stay single.

    • +5

      expensive seasonal activity

It took you an aldi deal to realise snow activities in Australia are expensive?
Wait till you see lift pass prices :0

    • Agree worse with kids who grow out of stuff.

      • +1

hand me downs, my kids ski gear went through 2 kids then onto eBay.

  • Anyone know what might be the functional difference between the "Ski Jacket" and "Snowboard Jacket"? The specifications look identical…

    • pretty much zero difference although the marketing spiel will tell you otherwise.

    • +6

Generally snowboard jackets are longer given you will more likely be sitting in the snow to take care of your bindings.

Ski jackets are shorter so they don’t restrict movement but you can use either. My daughter has one of each in the kids jackets and uses them interchangeably for skiing.

  • I am in need of some long hiking pants for the colder weather. Being waterproof/resistant would be nice as well as no scrunch scrunch as I walk. I can't really see anything but maybe the snowboard pants, although I am assuming they are the 'scrunch scrunch' material?
Or can recommend any other on the cheaper side pants?

    • How cold? I usually go shorts and polypro thermals for winter hiking. If it’s hiking in the snow then Macpac’s Alpine pants are fantastic, but not cheap.

      • I too about 95% of the time wear shorts only. The other times have been hiking in say Norway through snow or tassy during rain/sleet/wind, I'm which case the last about 20m before removal. Usually my terrible current pants just go over my shorts for easy removal during the hike. They are the flimsiest plasticy basically like silk .5mm thick elastic band pants. It pretty much acts as a wind break only and very light water-repellent. Anything more and they just get soaked through.
I probably should of said I'm not looking for warmth (kinda stupid wording in my first comment). Just something for a wind break and waterproof. Extra bonus if they fit over my shorts and can take them off part way through.

  • Too bad they don't sell online. Not worth the plane ticket 😜

  • Have bought ALDI gears about 7-8 years ago and still using it 2 weeks a year

  • How do we know which ALDIs will stock them? Gun for the big shopping centres? Will be in Brisbane during the sale so hoping to get a pair of pants since one of the two I have were very much done already pre-COVID haha

    • Keen to know as well. My local Aldi guy said last week he was unsure what they will get.

  • are these expected sell out quick - as in people will be queuing up before Aldi Opens?

      • Wow didnt know it was to this extreme… Does anyone know whether this would be similar experience in Melb?

      • Just went to Lakemba NSW , a lot of stock , few people shopping on snow gears , spent $500 for our family

  • LOTS in stock at Newmarket QLD. Rocked up at 8am, no line, lots of people but a lot of stock.

  • I getem mens ski jacket, ski pants, goggles and gloves.

Large queue at Willetton WA. Not too many folks at Clarkson WA.

Not much left at Indooroopilly but still a healthy amount of the non-premium stuff at Kenmore. Staff at Indro said they will be restocking first thing tomorrow but Kenmore said the opposite so I dunno 🤷🏻‍♂️ Might be worthwhile to hit both Sunday for anyone who missed out/couldn't find good sizes today

  • Maitland store we visited at 1030 after kids sport and still a fair amount of stuff. Adults jackets and pants low stock..fair amount of kids. Plenty of boots.

  • Hi guys, I’m a noob who hasn’t been snowboarding before but am keen to start. Does anyone know how tight snow pants should fit? I bought snowboarding pants in size M but found they fit quite loose at the waist, but seem good at the feet (baggy and slightly long). I’m male about 182cm and 84kg so instinctively grabbed a M haha - didn’t think I’d be a small. Would it be fine to wear a belt snowboarding? Thanks.

    • +1

You need to be able to squat comfortably in them. The jacket will often have an internal band on it that should stop snow getting in the top of your pants. Some pants come with a belt, though I think that’s mostly ski pants.

      • Alright, thanks!

  • went about lunch time and all the merino hoodies were gone. or so i thought. after half an hour digging around for a balaclava, someone had dumped one along with the merino pants in the kids section. yoink!

aldi should sell a t-shirt: "i survived the aldi snow sale."

    • I also went about lunch time, pretty much all the Merino was gone. Vic.

      • i guess people were super keen after the 2 year break between snow sales.

  • Adelaide aldis still had plenty of stock, i guess the snow gear hunt in nsw and Vic is way different!

  • Just visited my local Aldi, everything was out of stock except for my sizes in the jacket. So that's out of the way at least. Now I just need some plain gloves, thermals, and pants to match.

  • decided not to get the snowboard / ski gloves from Aldi this year. Previous years' gloves were of great quality and features, lasted me years before I needed a new one. I dont doubt this year's quality either but shrinkflation have affected them. Instead of using velcro for tightening the gloves like they used to, they replaced it with a cinch strap.

Saw one of the gloves had its strap came loose in the shop and I cant imagine needing to thread it to the hook if it came loose while out in the cold.

Indooroopilly absolutely spent - virtually only the toboggans left

  • Gold Coast stock is still pretty good. I grabbed my jacket a few days ago, and yesterday I grabbed some pants which were larger than I'd like but would've worked in a pinch. Also gloves.

I went to another aldi today which had my correct pant size, so I exchanged that rather easily.

Overall I visited 4 different Aldi's to get the jacket, pants, gloves, and balaclava for $125 all up. All items are matching thankfully.
