  • any good for dash cams or security cameras?

    • +1

You're better off getting almost any card branded with Endurance over these.

    • Endurance are typically much more expensive. Unless it is for a mission critical situation I think it is better to use the standard cards as long as you aren't going to fill and wipe the card more than once per day.

I'd argue for all things, a security camera and a dash cam are 2 items you wouldn't want to cheap out on the storage for - especially if when you need to rely on footage you can't because the card is stuffed.

64GB endurance card is like $17 - from personal experience, every "normal" sd card has died in my dash cam till I swapped to a cheap endurance card and it's been fine since

        • After how many years did the SD card die?
How many times per day were you filling the card? (More than once a day, once every three days or more).

Was the card a Samsung EVO series card?
Even the non-endurance cards have a very high endurance.

          • @whats up skip: First card lasted 2 months, 2nd card lasted a week and 3rd card lasted about 8 months

They were in 2 different dash cams - I have no idea how often data was being replaced but certainly not daily
3rd one was an Evo, first 2 were just standard SanDisk ultra cards

            • @lachhelix: As I said it depends on how many times the card is being filled per day/week. The challenge these days is that many cameras can't take the 128GB or larger cards, so the smaller capacity cards wear out much more quickly.

        • I bought two Eufy cameras along with two Samsung High Endurance 128GB cards in July 2022. These cover a couple of additional angles across my deck and back rumpus room so are non mission critical, the rest of the cameras are proper POE powered outdoor units recording to an NVR which conveniently you can make the Eufy cams do. Sadly the cameras 100% require a Micro SD card to operate otherwise I wouldn't bother with the cards.

In any case, in March 2023 one of the cards just died without warning, the other is still working without issue so I do wonder if it was just silicon lottery on that one card.

They claim up to 10,000 hours recording, which is only 1.14 years, but right now the cameras have about 35 days of 24/7 footage available so recording must be about 3.65GB/day give or take.

Sadly Samsung seem to have discontinued this product so I can't seem to find any information on the maximum number of write cycles, but even if I'm filling it once a month, surely it should make 120 cycles which would be 10 years of use in my particular case??

          • @The Hawk: Should certainly still be in warranty - just contact Samsung and see what they reckon

            • @lachhelix: Turns out I didn't finish my story…

One of the reasons I buy from Officeworks is the returns policy. Walk in with receipt, walk out with replacement product with very few questions asked. Price isn't even an issue since they price match without questions too.

This was is really fun since when I got the cards originally they were only about $25 each on special. So I did have to hunt around to find a nearby store that actually had the model I wanted in stock, but after that, done.

          • @The Hawk: I would think you will be fine for at least five years, and as you say more than likely ten years.

  • Never bought anything from Shopping Square. What are the shipping times like or better to get from Amazon/ebay etc?

    • I bought from them once a couple of months ago (SanDisk SD card for a similar price as this deal), no complaints.

Took about a week I believe to arrive, Amazon next day can't really be beat but for the savings you get here I'm sure you can wait an extra few days if it's not urgent.

  • Price match for OW, theyre the only brick mortar retailers with the price match that have stock.

    Most JBs around me OOS.

But if you do find a JB with one, easy $5 128gb card

    • JB refused a price match due to it being taken grey stock.

  • Thanks, matched at JB and used perks $10 birthday code

  • 1tb $100 wen ?

  • will this be any good for a mirrorless camera?

  • No concern about counterfeits anymore or Shoppingsquare pretty reliable?

  • Is ‘insurance option’ included in the free delivery? Not clear.

  • Still waiting for my order to be shipped…
