  Just picked up a Samsung 970 Evo plus 1TB for $79 from scorptec. I wouldnt consider this WD drive particularly cheap, unless I'm missing something.

  Edit: This is a NAS drive which is has a different usecase and different market

    No, these are designed to be used in a NAS as a cache drive, they reduce total storage and allocate that for wear, hence the high Endurance (TBW) compared to other drives. Get a normal HDD or Sata sata ssd if you want cheap external backup drive.

    It's a NAS drive, you're paying a huge premium for durability and reliability.

    This drive is rated for 2000 full overwrites, while most consumer drives are only rated for around 600 at best.
    Realistically it's just a more durable SN750, tweaked for endurance over speed.
