Not sure how sharing the news of a price increase is a bargain.

    • +15

Because $6 is still cheaper than menu price?

      • -6

Eh… ok I guess. It's just odd that after paying $5 for this same meal for months, how an actual increase in price justifies a new deal being posted.

        • +5

how an actual increase in price justifies a new deal being posted.

Again, I'll repeat just because it doesn't seem to be sinking in, because $6 ($5.95) is still cheaper than menu price

I see $10.95 for the combo, and while this isn't the full combo, still shows the discount…

          • +2

@spackbace: I get that. So when it goes up to $7 does another deal get posted?

My point is simply that making a post on ozbargain to advise of a price increase doesn't sit right with me. But based on the votes I guess I'm in the minority.

            • @Hinee: Oh wait until an eBay sale. The price has gone up 25%, but there's a 20% off code. It must be a bargain because the code makes it cheaper!

          • @spackbace: I have an idea for U Spacey . Post a happy meal with the most value vs the breakdown of the normal prices :)

          • @spackbace: The gold winning mental gymnastics some people do to claim a price rise as a deal is amazing. Hats off to you sir. Looking forward to the posts on the next ebay price jacking sale.

            • +1

              @M00Cow: Yeah coz it's not like I have a strong history of deal posts… You're welcome 🙂

              • -8

@spackbace: Poor snookums, you'd think after all the strong history of deal posts not to take discussion or criticism of deal personally.

Would you like a hug? 🥰

        • same meal for months

Haven't they just rotated through the crunch box and mini ripper for $5 nationally?

Oddly enough if you see a $5 1/4 chicken banner locally they still have access to that price in the POS.

    • It's a new deal, the price increase is from the last time the deal was run.

The lunch deal has been fried chicken for a bit.

  • It's not a barging and inflation is not running at 20% either.
Bit of an overkill price hike

    • Or 19% either.

      5% workers payrise at best
Chicken prices even at the supermarket have stayed fairly stagnant over the past 3yrs.
Potato prices have dropped in the past 2mths.

red rooster just jumping on the bandwagon like every other company just mindlessly increasing prices by a number they pulled out of the air

        • All the future deals are now just gonna come in at $6, the wings box, 2pcs chicken, etc. I used to make special runs out of my way on weekends for RedRooster. KFC promos have come to be just on par IMO.

        • +3

          Exactly.
Chip shortage, can't get staff, held up at port, covid, supplier problems, interest rates, energy prices, Ukraine, go elsewhere tax etc. etc.

It didn't seem long ago when my local charcoal chicken store was charging $7.95 for this. Now it's $12.50.

      • +6

Yet look at all the crybabies on here. Not one of them will tell us where you can get a cheaper deal than this RR one.

          • @Poor Ass: Where's the qtr chicken? All I see is a box of fried filth.

            • @R00D: hahaha it's all filth

difference is the RR fried filth is crunchy tasteless

              • @Poor Ass: BBQ'd filth?

                • @R00D: RR are roast but I was talking about the fried chicken RR does….. it's crunchy but tasteless. I guess doesn't have 11 herbs and spices

    • Where can I get a cheaper equivalent deal?

  • +3

I got nuggets once from Red Rooter and they were frozen inside.

I remember when it used to cost $2 for a Quarter Chicken and Chips on a Tuesday….long time ago
Anyone know when it went to $5? They could of been running with a loss leader for a while and its just overdue for a price rise to bring it back inline.

    • +2

Anyone know when it went to $5?

      Spotted in 2016

      2 for $10 in 2014 and 2012

      Last seen January 2023

    • I remember the $2.50 special on tuesdays. We used to grab 3 of them after school and eat like happy morons!

  • +4

Smallest chicken quarter I've ever seen more like sparrow quarter & chips smaller than McDonalds small bag i wont be buying it again .

  • +1

It's actually the chips and packaging that forced the price rise.
Franchisees love this just as much as the dominos franchisees did the discount pizzas.
Promos like this cannibalise their normal sales… dont forget to add on the high margin drinks and gravy 🤣

  • Like their lunch deals but my nearest Red Roaster is 15 min away

    • +1

      Tragic!

  • +2

Best chicken in the Biz. Not sure how they do it, but it demolished other roasts.

    • +1

any charcoal chicken joint near you will demolish this generic crap.

it's like saying Maccas make the best burger… they are decent don't get me wrong, but far from the best.

      • Not a fan of the charcoal, classic roast for me

        • no flavour ew

          • @dukeGR4: That’s the thing, they must marinate their chickens because there is a notable flavour difference to all others.

            • @muzzakus: They marinate in chicken blood and then get salted with red rooster's own seasoning, then sit for a couple days in the fridge. The stuffing is also Red rooster's own

            • @muzzakus: Marinade injected at the factory (steggles) exactly the same as Supermarket product.
Difference is they are salted and spiked for 8-24 hrs.

  • Would anyone know if they still sell deli cups?

    • +1

Actual deli cups about 15 years ago..

Since then different variations on cheesecake and chocolate mousse.
      Current strawberry cheesecake is decent.

On the last $5 quarter chicken and chips deal…..

I ordered, quarter chicken and chips at the speaker. Pulled.uo.to window, and told some price like $xx.xx (can't remember now how much exactly they said)
I said nah mate, says $5 on the banner out front"

"Oh, that's a different quarter chicken and chips" the RR guy replies. "You have to ask for the$5 quarter chicken and chips" he snapped back with contempt.

"Sooo, what's the difference" I asked, perplexed how quarter chicken and chips can be different.

"Different size chips, and something else, but don't know what" the RR guy replies.

"Well, it's only other component is the chicken …..🤷" Still not sure what's the difference was:

Till I opened the box and saw the 'chicken'. I can confidently confirm, tbequarer chicken and chips is actually budgie and toddler on a diet sized chips.

  • mine was $5.95 a few weeks ago at my local

  • This deal be going for decades before 4PM . A slight price change and OP saying different price in menu has been the same for the over a decade as well .
The bottom line is the whole world knows already about this deal .

    • Now the whole world knows they've increased the price, but it's shortly a deal….. Like Costco & Prime Membership increases fot posted. The mental gymnastics some people do to justify a price rise as a deal.

      • 'they've increased the price, but it's shortly a deal'

that's a marketing trick commonly seen in Colesworths - they show the increased price in small print on a discount sticker showing the previous full price as a 'discount'

  • +1

Used to be $5 not too long ago

  • -1

    Love Red Rooster.

  • As someone who's never ordered a half/quarter etc. of a chicken how does it work. Like do you pick what quarter you want? Can you ask for a front quarter or do I not understand how they quarter a chicken? (Im one of those strange people who only really it's the breast, not a fan of legs/wings/etc.)

    • 2 legs/2 breasts.. breast comes with a bonus wing ..leg is thigh and drumstick
      1/2 is one of each.

  • if I recall a long time ago I quite liked Red Rooster - but since I don't have a car and the nearest to me looks like a half hour on a bus - I'll get by on the discount chicken pieces from Woolworths I enjoyed for dinner last night

  • can you pay using RR points? They just credited me with $5 worth as I haven't bought anything for ages

  • kfc og mashies $4.95 seems much better than this

  • +1

This "deal" is like when Coles jacks up the price before locking it for a couple of months. Clayton's deal. The usual deal price was $5, now $6. How can I feel that's a deal, the old deal was cheaper than menu also. I wouldn't buy that,so pointless comparison.
