good luck trying to get for 2 or more people..

"Each eligible customer may purchase ONE (1) individual adult Economy Class round-trip ticket."

Wtf kind of rule is that - this is the exact reason I won't bother with this deal. No guarantee you'll get 2 seats on the same plane with how popular this deal is seeming to be.

I don't want to be locked into a flight and my wife can't travel on that because she's slower and booking her tickets or something.

    • +2

No restriction on how many full fare tickets you can buy I'd imagine, and seat selection is included on the 'freebie', but paying full whack for a second ticket kinda defeats the point…

    • +1

It's to prevent booking agents from mass booking. If they allowed what you just describe you'll be complaining that it's unfair system. Either way there will be people displeased with this deal whichever way they design it for.

      • +2

I feel like 2 tickets is the universal standard for these kinds of things anyways.

        • +1

Then you have families complaining it ain't fair because their children might miss out.

          • -2

@nightelves: Universal 2 tickets is the norm for most competitions. I don't get why that's a difficult concept to get.

            • +1

@jaygee: What's stopping you from getting 4 tickets between the two of you. One membership gives you two ticket, the other membership give you another two. At least with one ticket it's fair for everyone.

              • @nightelves:

What's stopping you from getting 4 tickets between the two of you

Nothing if you can get INTO the competion. Chances of you travelling on the same plane or day will be close to impossible.

I might as well ask whats to stop you from getting 8 tickets between the 8 of you have 8 computers and 8 people? What's the stop 100 people in a room getting 100 tickets between 100 people??

If you want to travel alone go for it, but most people do want to travel with someone else.

        • ^ maximum 2 tickets per account would make the promo so much better

Just the option of buying 1 or 2 tickets will open it up to allow couples or friends to travel together.

People will always complain, but at least with 2 tickets, it is not only targeting solo travelers.

          • @CodeXD: They're trying to boost their FF membership number is what I can see here.

  • Bad luck for buggers who live in the sticks!

    • More departure points (4 State capitals Cathay fly out of) than in most discount flight Deals!

International flights don't fly from "the sticks" - there's no airport code😃

  • +1

Any way to use this for a one way flight? If the taxes and surcharges are refundable but they're the only part we pay, could I fly to HK, cancel the return and get a refund for it?

I want to go to Macau and Manila, as an open ended trip.

    • ya, I was wondering the same too~ I just want a one way instead of return. Wonder what will happen if I fly the first leg and cancel the return flight.

    • Did you find the answer? Was thinking giving up the second leg too, but booked too quickly to see the cancellation term.

  • +1

It's a good deal… but yea good luck it will be snapped up so quickly… Cathay Hong Kong did something similar and everything gone within first few minutes.

  • Surely Brisbane airport taxes isn’t $150 more expensive than the others? If so, what a rip off

    • new runway tax?

  • why is Brisbane most expensive, it's the closest?!

    • Looking at the breakdown of the fees and charges on a dummy booking, the fuel surcharge is the same as out of MEL (despite being a bit closer, highlighting what a load of BS such surcharges are) at $356.40, but taxes are $193.12 (v $170.50 for MEL) so a lot less than the heading suggests (probably about $549).

  • +1

Any idea what the exact blackout period dates are, and what discount code to use?

    • Any idea what the exact blackout period dates are

      [REDACTED]

  • Why on earth would anyone want to go to hong kong?

    • For me it'll be closer and cheaper to get to Taiwan, South Korea etc without needing to pay the full price.

    • Last chance to see HK before there is nothing good left after "Xinnie" took control of the island.

  • These taxes are so expensive now - especially the fuel excise. I have seen Sydney to Hong Kong tickets go for $550 before Covid!!!

  • +4

"Xinnie" might turn your trip into a nightmare one-way permanent holiday somewhere in Mainland China or worse.

    • +2

Been to hong kong multiple times and Shanghai and Beijing, South Korea and Japan. I have never had an issue and the police there are always helpful when asking for directions. This is a bargain not a political post. You sound exactly like the parrots in the media, go learn for yourself instead of repeating what you hear on mainstream news as your form of traveling.

      • +4

Much more likely to be shot dead in a mass shooting in the US than be arrested by China.

  • Is it really worth time + the possibility of not getting 2 people on the same flight? Theres still CX availability via QF rewards for the dates I'm looking at… and it costs the same $ tax amount but additional 60k points pp…

    • +4

Oh sorry honey, could only get one ticket! You're fine to stay home with the kids yeah?

      • +2

Married couples I've know who take separate holidays, totally enjoy their break (from each other)!

Each can follow their own different interests. Giving their children time with 1 parent - strengthening that bond. They all follow what the other is doing in their own favourite locations. Getting to know each other better.

Much easier on work commitments - it can be hard & stressful organising time off, at exactly the same time.

They say time apart keeps their relationship alive! There is no need to do what their partner wants - no arguments or compromises. It's their time, their break! Coming back refreshed & alive. Looking forward to spend time with their partner.

  • Will hop on this deal, then use QFF'ers to get to Paris to London in hopefully a First Classic Reward. Got all my dates ready to goooo!
Then try to merge all sectors across both tickets but might be an issue considering they wont be the same issuing e-ticker (081 vs 160)

    • What are benefits of merging?

      • -4

Merging can increase strength and power but at the cost of mobility

For example if husband and wife merge, two will become one and a power ratio of 2:1 will be achieved.

However if both want to run in opposite directions then 0 power and movement will occur.

        Hope this helps

  • Anyone have the discount code they keep referring to in the T&C's?

    • +1

You get it once you log in

  • If I manage to make a booking for say, November, will I get a full refund if I decide to no longer fly?

    • +1

All tickets are non-transferable, non-reroutable and non-exchangeable and only the tax & surcharges are refundable.

      • Yes, but I thought the fare e.g. $526 from Melbourne was just taxes? Therefore, full refund since its taxes and charges?

        • I got in but forgot to enter the promo code for searching the dates. Does anyone know if promo codes can be entered at the final page? Because GG

  • +1

So I got to the front of the queue and then logged in and then threw me to the back of the queue with 19min wait time….seems stupid, especially if tax is ~$600

    • +1

      Same

    • +3

19 minutes is pretty good. I'm at 'more than an hour'.

  • +3

    Your queue number: 16770
Expected arrival time on the website: more than an hour
Your estimated wait time is: more than an hour

    LOL yeah nah

  • +1

Has anyone got into the booking page yet? Seems to be a massive queue.

    • +3

      I’m 677 in place

      • Can you confirm what the taxes charged amount is?

        • +2

          Air transportation charge AUD$ 1,003
          Discount -AUD$640
          Other charges and fees AUD$194.32

          • +2

@UberIsCool: so approx $557? Not a huge deal esp when you can get a few flights at similar rates although with a bit of layover.

            • +1

@ModBot: Yeah I didn’t end up going through with it, I can access standby travel which is $381 return anytime as long as seat is empty

              • @UberIsCool: How do you get access to standby travel ?
Anyone in the family working for the airline?

  • +3

Lol what queue number were you

  • anyone know the price?

    • I forgot to put in the promo code and now I can't see adjusted price.. and I can't go back or modify the dates within the same tab

      • F

      • what was the price without the promo? Same as Google Flights?

        • It varied, about $1700 for the date I had put, but for some reason the return leg was $0 LOL

  • +1

Bleh, couldn't even get into my first queue because of page loading errors. Second queue 7100 :/

  • +1

So there's another queue after the initial one??

  • queue number 23507 so 23506 people in front of me? and 15 mins each person??

    • +3

Yes, That's 352590 minutes or 244.8 days. So Just come back January 29, 2024 and you'll get a ticket. :)

      • thanks for calculating that for me, i was about to go eat something and thinking when i should come back to the computer..

    • I got 65000 ish

  • +2

    Queue number isnt going down

  • +1

Yeah I'm done. I got in a 4min queue. Made it in, logged in. Got booted out and put in another queue for 19min. Made it through, went to the page to book and got booted out again for an 1hr+ queue. Stupid

    • +1

Same. Got in and booted me to the back with over an hour wait. This is crazy mess.

  • +1

I've used this queuing system before when buying festival tickets, it's fairly random queue order for those who are sitting there before the actual release time. Then post-release time people are queued up behind the pre-release folk.

  • +2

How do you guys manage to get to the ahead of the queue so quickly? Is there some bits involved? I clicked it right immediately when clock turned 12:00 (online clock), yet I'm in 20k 🤦

    • you were able to queue before 12:00PM

      • +1

        WHAT
That defeats the purpose of getting to the landing page at 12pm as the text advised!

      • +1

Looks like that's the wrong queue. You need click BOOK NOW, that's not available until 12pm.

  • +1

a que to going in another que then surprise que again?

    • +2

      si senor

  • +1

After waiting 8 mintes to log in, currently in queue 8906. Ridiculous. Might try again tonight or tomorrow night. What a waste of time

    • +2

You seriously think there will be tickets left for later?

      • +1

the question is - do I really wanna wait who knows how long, for a chance at a ticket that I'm not even sure I can book as the queue is paused, while there are other airline options I can check later on? If you wanna wait be my guest, and I hope you get tickets. For me, it's not worth the time

        • +2

Oh yeah I totally get not waiting. My comment was more along the lines of why bother checking later as there won't be any tickets left…
