Looks to be the cheapest in history so far based on past posts in Ozbargain.

There has been feedback from some users that it's not that good to use but personally for me, I've been using it for years with no issues in my HomeKit setup.

This also looks to be a different (and newer?) model - mine has a light at the the power button but this does not. Someone could help chip in on more information on this.

The footprint is huge though. You pretty much sacrifice the whole double powerpoint for it.

i agree. takes up 2 spaces.

i still bought x3 for that price.

it has an offset design so it doesn't take up 2 spots

I wasn't a fan of my Cygnett for this reason. I've since filled the house with slim EKO smart plugs and some are in pairs in double wall outlets, no problemmo. Most I set to power on only 10-3 when my electricity is cheapest. 😆

I'm just wondering, what sort of devices are you limiting to 10am-3pm use?
I guess it makes sense to set the dishwasher and washing machine to run at those times but those you'd set with a timer on the device itself and not a smart plug?

        • Mostly my device chargers around the house. I used to charge devices overnight, but I'm home most days now so makes sense for me to charge when it's half the price from 10-3.
Also things like my TV and soundbar only turn on from 10, but I let those stay on till 1am when it's power off, everywhere! My router does get to stay on overnight, but I've got a 1 minute off cycle so I never have to "turn if off and on again".
I've had some scares playing PlayStation late and forgetting my crazy regime, then hitting myself with my 1am blackout, midgame. Oh well, bedtime is bedtime. Lol.
What I have enjoyed is looking at the amount of power each outlet consumes, and comparing the monthly graphs.

          • @muncan: How much do you actually save from this though? And how many of these smart plugs do you have? Given they're $15 a pop are you actually saving anything here?

            • @dealord: I have 6, paid about $10 each so I'm already ~$30 up! 😂

  • I think ! saw a Shopback 15% off deal for bigW .
    Trying to wake up .

I have 1 that works, but was a pain to get it to connect.

I have tried two other times when they have been on sale and ended up taking them back, as no matter what i did, i could not get them to connect.

The plug on them is offset, so that helps with a double power point.

Alot of issues with these and the app.

Also available at mydeal ($10 off $75 + shipping) and woolworths market (free shipping over $50)

I have 4 of these. My oldest one is about 4 years old now. I’ve never had an issue using HomeKit, but agree the Cygnett App is not easy to use. I have automated the fish tank lights, the pool pump, the pool lights and a table lamp which then gets used to do to Christmas tree lights. Shame there’s no stock in my area or I would have bought a few more. So handy. I’ve got a Philips hue plug which does the exact same thing and cost 5x this price.

    That RRP is unrealistic IMHO.

I'd suggest that often the Wifi socket with energy monitoring for $15 is a better bet, unless this is only used sparingly, like for turning on Christmas lights.

I can recommend the $15 Eko one from Big W. Connects well and much thinner!

There's a 4 outlet smart power board available too for $23.95 (save $56). Individually controllable.

    • The fact this also has power usage monitoring is wild

    • How does individual controlling works with google voice?

  • +1

    Are these ESP based?

  • +1

Does anyone know if these can be integrated in to Home Assistant?

  • Any idea how far these project from the power point? I’m after a thin smart switch that doesn’t project very far to fit in my meter box.

(The website lists it as 11x11x11 which looks unlikely from the pics)

    • +2

      they are massive

I wouldn't recommend these. I have 2 of these, and they frequently lose their config and have to be reset. If I had to buy it again, I'd look for something with a smaller footprint as these are huge and render sockets next to them unusable.

  • There a Cygnet strip with 4 smart plugs also available for $23 from Big W.

I highly don't recommend these unreliable pieces of trash. Bought 6. Returned all 6.

    • Same. Bought 3 and all returned. I could never get them to pair.

For those who could get these to work, what did you do; how did you pair them? I went through 3 different apps from cygnett and none of them work.

  • These are actually very reliable and great HomeKit devices. I bought another 8 to my existing set of about 10 that control downlights, lamps, electric blankets and xmas lights. The price is brilliant. The trick to getting these things connecting is to split your WiFi into 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, then make sure your phone is connected to 2.4GHz as these only support that band. Adding via the App or directly into HomeKit is a piece of cake after that.

    Thanks OP great find!
