Unfortunately comments in previous threads about Sony price-matching suggest cashback doesn't work as well.

    • Cashrewards have sent their automated message saying that it's pending but we know what that means

  • Pay the extra and get the Bose QCII in my humble opinion. Think it was down to $290 recently

I looked and the reviews said that these have superior noise cancelling but aren't as good for the other facets. It's a difficult call without trying them, but noise cancelling and multi-connectivity made the difference.

I wouldn't trust whatever you read, the Bose QCII is in its own league in terms of noise cancelling and it's not even close.

Where do you get that idea?

All the reviews/comparisons sites and videos that I've watched have suggested the opposite.

          • @mg_k: Basically every YouTube video comparison I've seen has the Bose QCII at the top which I tend to agree with, but there might be some variance depending on which ear-tip fit is used.

Besides that, I've tried both, the Bose QCII were the best and so I bought them. Also I wouldn't use the XM4 at all just purely because they are uncomfortable and unergonomic.

Another point is ANC is not just about what sounds best when you put them on, it's about what works best across all pitches, I found a lot of the TWS earbuds I tried were great at low level ANC but awful at high pitched, and vice versa. The Bose QCII are just excellent at all times.

@rekke: Your opinion isn't so humble anymore ;-)

@Big L: It started with good intentions :)

      • I have both this and the Bose QC earbuds II. I think the noise cancelling on the Bose is better on certain frequencies and I find them a lot more comfortable in my ears. I barely use the Sony now. I do miss the Sony's smaller case though.

    HODL for <$200 soon ;)

    • I've read reports of a new model coming, so you're likely correct. These are for a present, so I can't wait, dammit!

    This or the Linkbuds S?

    • +2

This. Linkbuds S is no match.

      • +1

I disagree. The LinkBuds S are quite close in terms of sound quality, and they are super lightweight and more comfortable than the WF-1000XM4.

I would recommend the LinkBuds S if you can get them at a discount. I got mine for $160.

Be aware that there is battery issue with this earbud after upgrading the firmware (or newer batch with upgraded firmware). There is a massive reddit thread about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyHeadphones/comments/x7mx2n/wf10…

    • Thanks for pointing that out, I did see it and forgot to mention it in the post. It seems that the software update to include multi-connectivity shot some batteries and Sony were responding positively but very slowly on warranty.

Not overly happy with mine. Comparing them with cheap jabras I had before they don't offer much better sound quality. App has a lot of annoying features and features I thought would be good don't work well. Had issues with the case. Issues with them connecting to my phone even when they're in the case.

Battery is the only good thing. Wouldn't recommend for the price.

If you have an Android phone, make sure you've enabled LDAC in your Bluetooth settings. If you haven't already, you should change the EQ in the Sony Headphones app to a preset eg. Excited. And if you're using Spotify Premium for example, you can really hear the difference with audio quality set to very high. Play some music loud and you'll notice details you never knew were there.

      • LDAC is on. Spotify already set to very high and had a preset on it.

They just aren't worth the $300 RRP, especially considering the minor difference compared to far cheaper units.

        • Yeah I got mine for $200 new from Sony which I'm happy about, and I notice more than a small audio quality upgrade.

  • I got excited until I realised it wasn't the WH-1000XM4

    • They've just released xm5 on the Sony site

      • Yup, that's why I'm looking for a bargain on the xm4s

    • exactly, what a shame.
