Loved this game, it's absolutely fantastic. After first few hours slog, the story opens up into a real mindf- till the very end. It was an utterly brilliant experience.

If you played this previously and gave up before the word "flashbacks" means anything to you, you've missed out.

    • +14

I gave up and I have no rugrats.

      • The ironic part here pitoui is you've misspelled the misspelt eye dialect …. it's generally "no ragrets" !
"Ya know what I am sayin?!"
        - Scotty P

Rugrats on the other hand, is a slang term for children…. which confused me greatly what the relevance of you not having children was to a Free Game on EPIC!

    • +3

I loved it too. The gameplay took a bit to get into but I started enjoying a while in. It's not difficult but still engaging.
Building structures that other players can use is fun and rewarding.
The world and story is weird but in a good way. Feels original which I really like.
Happy there is a sequel coming

      • +3

I gave up at first, but came back to it a year on, and enjoyed it.

    • +1

Loved the game as well. All the silly signs and thumbs up from other players were so funny. Ending was bit confusing, but I'm so happy that the second one is coming up.

    • +1

I'm so glad I suffered though the early cut scenes. I greatly enjoyed playing as a postie, complete with hivis gear and truck.

There are so many things I love about this game but I won't list them as they will spoil the fun for others.

Yeah, I gave up too. If I have to slog for days before it "gets good", then its not good.
I'm going back to Snowrunner :)

      • Genuinely curious, were you being ironic like as in Alanis morissette ironic "rain on your wedding day"?

"Slog for days before it "gets good" " is an apt description of snowrunner too IMHO.^

^fineprint: Unless you are using Mods in snow runner

        Who would've thought? it figures

        • Snowrunner is fun from the start, especially co-op with the kids in the room.

And the irony of that song is that nothing in that song is ironic… either shes very smart, or a numbat

This game was free last Dec. No wonder I felt a sense of déjà vu.

    • +20

Additionally they messed up for the first few hours and handed out the Director's Cut instead of the standard.

      • +11

I still feel sad about missing out given I was awake at the time.

        • +4

Too bad they didn't make the same mistake again because you're awake right now!

        • +1

I missed out and paid for the directors cut upgrade. I think it's worth it (I play on pc with the PS5 controller and DC has nice haptics). Still haven't finished the game.

        • Even though I already have DS I literally clicked this hoping it was the same mistake again, as I also missed out.

    • +2

It almost feels like the ghost of dealbot has helped deliver this deal to you before

    • +7

When I saw this I actually rushed into my epic account to download it only to find out that I have it already in my library haha. So little time to actually play games those days :(

    • yes, already in my library

  • +14

Probably one of the best game soundtracks ever! The way it intertwines with the setting and moments in the game makes it memorable. Not a game for everyone, but definitely worth a crack if you've ever been on the fence.

  • +4

I paid extra for the directors cut upgrade when it was last free. Great game

  • Great game with amazing soundtrack - the main menu soundtrack has no right slapping that hard

  • +1

One of the finest gaming experiences ever crafted, don’t miss it

  • +1

Also on game pass last I checked. Also just the regular version. Fast travel in the director cut must be a nice quality of life improvement.

  • unlimited 25% coupons for spend over $22.99

Oof. Was hoping for a really good discount for Star Wars Jedi Survivor but no such luck. Still way too much (for me) to pay for a game. Might give EA Play Pro a go. Want to play this game rather desperately.

Anyhow, great post and game. Love the soundtrack when it comes on and the feeling of isolation that comes with it. It has a nice calming effect which feels wonderful and tingly somehow.

    • +1

Just play it on EA Play Pro. It isn't that long.

      • Are EA game cards available here locally? The closest I can find is EA Origin Access Premier card through Prezzee. Are they one and the same, therefore compatible with EA Play Pro?

        Anyone in the know?

  • +6

Die Hardman, such a great name for a character with a mask like that.

  • +1

This is an ultra-weird story, told through a big-budget game/experience full of well-known Hollywood actors. As a gamer it's something you should at least spend a few hours with, to get the flavour of the cameos and cultural reference points, whether or not you enjoy the gameplay. I wasn't sold on the writing, but the feel of the game world will stay with you.

  • +4

Well that was disappointing. Not the game but the repeat.

    • +1

not like you play any of the games each week?

      • +11

Collecting a new game each week is a game in itself.

  • +3

    Absolutely loved this game.

Typical Kojima with lot philosophical subtext when you past the surface. Its a slow burn and a unique experience.

  • Bought this when it first came out on the PS4 - amazing game and worth the money in my opinion! Very unique gameplay mechanics 😎

And so continues epics attempt at getting more downloads. The free games is quite literally the only good thing about their launcher. Seriously think about whether you want to play this game before you just download it because its free, itll end up being adware slowing your computer down on launch and nothing more.

    • You know you can adjust whether it runs on launch in the settings, right?

      • -1

You know its still useless, right?

        • As far as I'm aware it's the only way to play Fortnite on PC. So it has some use.

  • +3

Already got Walking Simulator, but guess I'll now have the official one too.

    • +2

Playing this on VR Treadmill should help improve health ;)

  • Bugger already had it.

Need dead island2 to go on sale

  • +2

TIL I already had this in my Epic account.

  • Why did they make it a big secret for a repeat game?

    • +2

It is AAA i guess. Might be part of the agreement because it would hurt sales for the week prior

    • The cynic in me says many would have been disappointed if they knew early it was a repeat so they kept it quiet and figured calling it a mystery game would generate more buzz.

  • -1

I had a feeling that Death Stranding would be the free game. https://ibb.co/PFqHyFr
But I couldn't wait until billbil-kun or Epic games to announce it.

  • +1

This must be a repeat of a previous giveaway. Because i already have it.

  • The first strand-type game by Kojima

    • -1

      "walking sim"

  • been a while for 500 upvotes for a free game

  • Came here and was I like wowow! Then while adding I realised its already in my Library 🥲🥲

  • Is this game scary/creepy have any jump scares?

  • -1

I wish Kokima just made a Metal Gear Solid clone instead.

  • Recently beat this game. Give it 4 - 6 hours. If after that, you're not in, bail. Like get out. I loved it. Adore this game. I think it's one of those games that you will look back on in 10 - 20 years and be like, "can you believe we got to play a game like that?".

That said, DS is so unique, so unapologetic in its design that if you're not vibing with it after a half dozen hours, you never will. And it's a long haul. It's easily 50+ hours if you try to beeline it. It's about 90 hours to beat on a regular playthrough on hard difficulty. So if it's not for you, bail.

  • Lol. So much fun that I simply don't have a good explanation for… just explaining the premise of this game to anyone that hasn't played it gets you looks of sympathy at your imminent section 38 commitment.

  • Missed it during the xmas giveaway, good timing now.

  • Amazing environment and visuals. Unfortunately I gave up a few hours in. It's just too much of a slog. Definitely worth installing though for that first 30mins of awe.
