    Johnny Walker Blue Label $159.99

    oh!

    Costco

    oh…

    • Sorry! Edited title, was too excited.

  • +1

why is Costco's website so slow and buggy….

    • +14

the money they save on optimised web experience is passed on in savings to you in premium whisky

    • +4

Its run on dial up and the server is a 386dx

      • +4

        Showing your age

        • +4

Well if the webserver ran on the cloud it wouldn't be this slow.

Yes I can keep up with you young'uns. Now get off my lawn.

      • +2

Get them to hit the turbo button.

  • +6

    Seems like an absolute steal

With the money you save you can splurge on coca cola instead of LA ice cola.

    • +2

please dont drink blue label with coke and enjoy it neat or on the rocks

      • +2

Instructions unclear. I Bear Grylls it. But chugged.

      • +2

Why? It tastes great with Pepsi Max. Only scotch I ever buy

      • +5

The dirt from the rock can not be digested and will damage the stomach

      • +2

People can drink whisky how they want. If they like it with Coke then why not.
I only like super smokey (peaty?) laphroaig whisky (to me it’s Smokey) and ice .. but I poured a friend one and they added coke to theirs … not something I like but doesn’t matter.

        • +1

A reason why not would be that Coke is very sweet and strong flavoured so it largely obscures the taste of the whisky. It's fine to enjoy coke with whisky but then mixing it with a $40 one instead of a $100 Laphroaig would make more sense since there isn't much taste difference between them once mixed.

          • @Xastros: I understand. But if someone buys it and adds coke, that’s what they want.
Same if someone buys a great wine and adds lemonade or ice or whatever. Completely up to them. It’s their money.

I am sure there whisky fans that think I have too much ice in mine, but that’s what I like.

I think sugar ruins coffees taste but, hey, if you like sugar then go for it..

            • +2

@PVA: Agree with what you said.

        • I have had the same experience as well. I too like Smokey/peaty whiskies. In my case it’s Ardbeg to drink neat, rest is mixed with coke :) Enjoy

    • Ngl LA Maxi Ice is actually nice for a change with it's sweeter caramel enhanced taste

  • OOS dam

    • Must have seen the error of their (intern) ways.

  • OOS, just missed it.

  • damn, no membership and … its gone

  • wooo got one

  • looks like i might have got the last one! sorry lads

  • probably only limited stock and ………. it's gone

  • OOS

  • +9

Yep, OOS. Just for interest sake, this is about $40 below the cost for regular bottleshops to BUY from the supplier .

    • -3

where?? Every where on the Internet is around $250 mark.

      • +7

This is called mark up. So the shop makes money.

  • +2

Can buy much tastier whisky for $160, but I suppose it doesn't have the same reputation Blue label has somehow earned.

    • +2

      What reputation would that be?

      • +2

        What reputation would that be?

I think he confused 'reputation' with 'marketing budget'

        • +2

I’d have thought “somehow earned” was an indicator I don’t think it deserves a reputation, but plenty of non whisky drinks believe Blue label is the one to aspire too. Which yes, is partly due to successful marketing.

          • +1

@Randolph Duke: Can you share a comparable whisky for $160 let alone much tastier?

            • +3

@yamahamoto: I’d take Lagavulin 16 or Caol Ila 12 for a start if you enjoy peat. Aberlour a'bunadh if you don’t want peat and like sherry.

Ardbeg Uigeadail has risen in price but still cheaper than RRP Blue - great drop.

    • +1

Yep, it's whisky for someone who wants to show off

  • Damn, looks like it took 10 minutes and OOS :(

  • +7

So incredibly overrated. But somehow impresses people…

    • +1

I believe it's just because of the price newbie gets impressed;)
I tried a couple of times (one of those newbie), but wouldn't pay $200+ again.

    • +2

      So incredibly overrated

This is pretty much the entire alcohol industry though. They put cheap ethanol into a fancy looking bottles along with million dollar marketing campaigns to make it sound like it is something more than just ethanol in a fancy bottle.

      • +1

OMG you just blew the whole scam wide open.

Michael Moore documentary pending. Next you'll be telling me diamonds aren't rare OR forever.

(side note - what happened to that guy?)

  • -8

I agree, peaty rubbish. Won't make an appearance at any whisky club. Why would you bother, just buying the name, again can't say much for the name.

  • FARK MISSED IT

    • +3

Buy Green Label for half the price, it's far nicer.

      • +5

will give it a go! i buy whisky for my father in law. Helps him fall asleep faster during family gatherings.

        • +2

And I'll give that a go!

  • +1

    OOS - thankfully.

I really fail to see the popularity of this stuff considering that there are far superior single malts for much less money.

    Bizarre.

    • +1

      Any recommendations?

      • +6

Costco have Glenmorangie 18 Year Old which I think is far superior to blue label for $170 at the moment which is pretty decent price (usually $200 and above at Dan Murphys)

        https://www.costco.com.au/Wine-Spirits/Spirits/Whisky/Glenmo…

      • +3

Two of favourite budget single malts are:
        Laphroaig 10yo (under $100)
        Glenfiddich 12yo (under $80)

For around this money, I've got a bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail which is very nice.

All of this is subjective obviously, so give them a crack and draw your own conclusions.

      • Try Auchentoshan three wood. Can get it for around $100 a bottle.

    • +1

      It's horrible

  • Got 2 .cheers

    • lies you didn't get any

      • I did not know you are a lie detector😂😂

        • lol it was sold out 3 hrs before you commented

          • @Poor Ass: I know I commented late but I am unsure where it says you cannot comment after certain time frame 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

            • @Mr Beans: Ok enjoy ya non existing high end blended whisky

  • +3

Blue is the most overrated. If you do a blind test, everyone thinks it tastes like shit

    • +1

Had a whole bottle during covid that someone got me a while back as a gift.
Its a pretty boring scotch but noticed a chemical taste after a while.

      • Yeah. There's something off about it.

  • Does Costco ship to QLD for booze?

  • +1

    Ugghhh!!!!

  • +1

This would be perfect with some Pepsi Max Lemon.

  • I've gotta give this a go. Everyone raves about it but I've never had it.!

    • +1

It's not that great tbh, I missed it too but was grabbing it for gifting stock.

If you like more peated whisky try Laphroaig 10 / Ardbeg, they're good!

    • +1

Do yourself a favour and just get a single serve at a bar if you must try it… Overhyped for what it is. Can get far more flavour from much cheaper bottles and If you want to pay this much can get much better quality e. G. Glenmorangie 18… Beautiful finish

  • +3

IMO, It's real value is $100 which is what Chivas 18 costs which is pretty much an equivalent blend.

    • Chivas 18 has come back down in price… Was going for 120+ at the height of inflation/covid/Russia's war

  • +2

Would have to buy the top shelf coke for this one

  • +1

Chivas 18 is much nicer than johnny blue.

  • Is this pure metho ?
