  • Can any computer professionals compare with the Budget PC one ?

Mainly for browsing websites and playing FB games

    • +1

The budget PC one does not include an OS, they charge $99 for 7 home premium. With this you are looking at $500 vs $700.

The Budget PC one has a MUCH higher end cpu… but that is about it really (some other minor things like more RAM).

This one has a faster video card and all the options you are likely to want. In short, I'd pick this any day (for your stated use).

      • Thanks Bruce.
Didn't know this has more powerful video card then the other.
I will grab one of this and grab a cheap SSD to speed up the system.

        • It's actually not a video "card". This system doesn't have a discrete GPU, it only uses it's CPU (which AMD calls it APU) for graphics processing.

You can still add a graphics card into it, to improve it's gaming performance. Not likely neccessary though if you're only playing 2D games that don't require advanced hardware.

        • An SSD might be overcapitalising this system.

        • Actually I double checked and the video is not as good as I had thought (still slightly better, but not by much).

I still don't think this changes the outcome though.

  • I'm lost, does Aldi stock these all the time or is this one coming up soon or … ? I've checked both the catalogues they have online at present, neither have this item in it.

  • I got the catalogues from North Sydney ADLI 15 mins ago.

    • Okay, can you please add to the title from what date it comes on sale? As the online catalogues aren't up to date or exclude this item, anyone who doesn't have the catalogue needs to know details like this :)

  • well i added the date already but not on the title.

    • Are you sure it's the 24th? That makes it a Friday but Aldi sales usually start on a Wed/Sat

        fixed the typo

  • These Medians can be real workhorses. I purchased one back in 2004 ($1400?) and the system board just choked last week after 24/7 use on the net. The burner gave up the ghost just a year ago. The video card needed replacement 2 days after warranty expired and since it was a Medion exclusive with scart output etc was to cost about $350 to replace (according to Medion hotline). I settled for a $40 agp from the markets.
About 4 yrs ago the ps smoked and local computer guy had to do a real hatchet job and modification to the new ps in order to fit it, all up on that bit $80.

In my experience with Aldi, I think the Medion brand the weakest of the lot. Tevion & possibly Baun the best.

    Am considering this purchase.

    • You have got it the wrong around. Actually, Medion is the strongest, better quality brand while Tevion is in second place and Baun is just for Australia (does not even exist in Germany where all of this is from). Normally, the Medion stuff is of good quality. Still have a ten year old laptop from Germany running just fine.

  • Does anyone know if this is likely to be quiet? I'm thinking about it for a media centre (I don't record from the TV, so just streaming and playing onto the TV). My TV is close to my bedroom and anything noisey would drive me mad

    • Not likely to be silent - cheap power supplies usually have a whirr or hum that only gets worse over time. And the enclosures are generally metal sheet, so vibrations add to the volume of hum.
This would be a better browsing box than a streamer.

      • That was my guess. Oh well, cheers Vortex

        • Aldi let you return items in 60 days, no questions asked. You could suck it and see.

  • I'm pretty sure this is the same computer they had going for the same price in January this year. I bought the pc.. i haven't had any issues. Its very quiet.. although sometimes when it loads is a little noisy.. but other than that, i wouldn't know it was on. Its quite fast with loading. haven't had any issues =)

  • last time they sold out quick. does this one have cd drive?

    • Multiformat DVD/CD burner supports all the usual DVD/CD standards, incl. dual layer DVD-R and DVD+R

It would seem so, did you look at the specs at all?

  • Does anyone know if it is working to have dual display by connecting one monitor on VGA and another on DVI?

I am going to buy it to replace my dying aged desktop.

Hopefully Aldi would have more stock this time. They sold out the first day the special came out.

  • Specs are actually better than posted above. Processor is new A8-5500 with HD7560D VGA.

    • Not bad actually. The benchmarks at Toms Hardware seems to indicate the CPU/GPU is fairly capable of playing modern games, so long as you keep the quality settings turned down. Good start for a poor man's gaming desktop.
