251

Our 55” Samsung curved tv got some issues had a big dark like shadow patch at the very middle of the screen look likes the back light is gone, not sure if it’s worth repairing so I was looking for an upgrade and found the LG 65 OLED C2 currently the lowest @ Appliances central for $2699 (free shipping most of the suburbs elsewhere it’s about $2995, it may not be best deal for everyone but hey it’s worth trying to match it up with JB and use some of the discounted cards.

Edit : for those who are in the free delivery postcodes can try matching JB HI-FI they just matched it for me in Brisbane

So you missed out on last year's Black Friday and Boxing Day. It's almost June soon so you might as well wait it out until November.

    • Was it really cheap back then ?

Not much of a deal, its been under $2500 and is last years model. If you afe absolutely desperate for OLED and cant wait for this to come down to actual clearance prices…

  • also the 55inch is foe 2050AUD. not the cheapest but eh…

I bought one nearly a year ago and the biggest disappointment is no KODI . Even my much cheaper TCL (inbuilt google TV) has no issues accessing my NAS and playing basically anything .
I need to hook up a Google TV tp the LG C2 which is a bit ridiculous IMHO .
In hindsight I should of got the Sony .
Picture is amazing no issues whatsoever there .

    • Plex works perfectly, as does Apple+, Prime, Netflix, Disney+, etc etc.
Ie. its not LG's problem, its KODI.

      • Could you suggest an alternative to KODI ?

          Plex?

          • @reactor-au: Doesn't plex still need a server to transcode ?
I want to just run movies off a USB stick or a simple NAS without transcoding .
I love the simplicity of KODI and similar apps , As the Fam manage to kill anything more complicated .
The inbuilt LG plyer will play most things but when it won't it's a pain .

            • @troyww: I think you do need to have a server, but you can set it to not transcode. I just stream 2160p HDR Atmos HEVC straight to the G1 and the TV does the video decoding and passes the atmos through to the AVR via ARC.

              • @reactor-au: In this context I think they mean "play", not transcoding, and yes, Plex requires a server.

That being said, I have a C1 and it doesn't support DTS, so unless I'm doing something wrong with my Shield/Plex it will transcode to dolby digital if you set your TV's arc setup to pass-through

                • @Dex: I think LG added DTS passthrough on the C2, it's not supported on C1.

                  • @reactor-au: lol damn. The differences are subtle but window-shaking.. or not if you have a C1

I did a manf reset a little while ago and forgot to turn pass-through back on, was sitting there with PCM wondering why my sub wasn't kicking in.

@Dex: I think it's a bit less pronounced now but in the DVD days DTS always had 10db boost on the LFE than Dolby.

                  • @reactor-au: No DTS. Only through their own soundbars with the TV

      • It is Lgs problem they choose not to run any google or android apps, only what they want. They and Samsung also do not allow DTS audio. So anyone with blurays or files that have DTS only tracks will not be able to play unless through a AV receiver. They cheap out on licensing. Another reason why people choose Sony. Yes you can buy a media box to do it but thats an extra cost and wires some dont want to do, when it should be included.

        • Trust me, having a few high end Sony Andoird TVs (and again, don't ask why…) you get sick of the android bugs and random freezes and resets and audio issues that pop up.

The android connectivity is awesome, but they just seem to perform poorly after ~2-3 years every single time

          • @buckster: Ive got 2 high end Sony TVs (One from 2017 and 2021). One does have random freezes but its maybe once in a couple months. No audio issues, lip sync etc. Its not as responsive as my Shield but nothing is as good as that either. LG and Samsung have far more issues with these things than Sony for me. Also dont update your TV, all these companies are known for downgrading features with software updates. Many have been fined millions for it too.

    • Good luck getting Dolby Vision on your TCL.

      • Plays dolby vision files fine , yes surprising I know . Is it the picture as good as the C2? Yep much better than not working at all .
Apart from that the TCL picture pales .

  • Been this price for a while now.

I’d imagine it will be cheaper next month with EOFY Sales

  • Seems like with last year's model, once the price starts to really drop, inventory becomes an issue. It looks like JB have dropped the 42" C2 from their stores altogether.

  • Is it likely the price will actually drop further on these models or will they simply sell out? Stock seems very low at retailers so I cant see mush interest in lowering. I just visited a Bing Lee and though they would price match the Appliances Central price, they would not beat it as they only had one left…

  • Been keeping my eye on this for a while and doesn't appear it's going to get much lower anytime soon even though they were available from HN for about $2700 last month/this month with sales. Like others said, is available on Appliance Central for $2690 but have to pay for shipping to WA. HN won't price match because too cheap but JB HiFi did one for me for $2600 :D
