Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including March 31 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. But you can ask a CSR to use the starter kit as a recharge. I think technically the service is activated on a new number and then your existing number/account is migrated across. The outcome is basically the same. Voicemail greeting needs to be recorded again.

Enjoy!

Still waiting for $4+ profit deals .. thanks tho OP

      • I've never received any of those targeted offers since signing up. P*sses me off.

      • Did you mean that you receive Cashback for Boost Mobile deal without activating the SIM?

I have never done that, but I would think that it has no way to check which SIM has been activated without meticulously record each SIM serial goes to which Cashrewards account then match it off. Seems too much effort to build it, instead probably just approve the ones who paid.

Is there anyone else got cash back without or forget to activate SIM within 30 days?

  • Great deal just purchased two sims in two separate transactions. Free cell service for 2 months and $5 profit. And it was 55gb not 60gb for me.

    • +2

Doesn't it have to be activated within 30 days?

      • it does

      • +1

I'll activate the first sim straight away for 28 days service. Then I'll activate the second sim a few days before the 30 day deadline and use that second sim for another 28 days service.

        • If you're activating SIM 2 early because you're worried the second SIM might not activate in time on the last day, there's no need UNLESS you're on your 5th SIM activation. I activated my 3rd Boost SIM this morning. All 3 have activated within the 4 hours that I think they cite, but did seem to take longer on weekends/public holidays. If you're activating SIM 5+ though, obviously you'll make sure it's a business day/hours because you need to phone them to do it manually, and they ask for a reason why you're activating a 5th SIM instead of recharging one of the previous 4. (You don't want them unable to take your call on your day 30, your last cashback day.)

good way to port between the Amaysim long term plans for a profit. Boost usually ships quite fast for me :)

    • Just what I"m doing. Great timing as my Amaysim plan is ending next week.

      • The most recent Amaysim deal I can see is $60 for 60GB for a year.
      • Another I see costs $9 for 50GB but gives back 600 Everyday Reward points which I think = $3, so it still costs $6.
      • These are 55GB for 28 days for $0 or up to a few $ profit.

So what need is there for Amaysim? Why not just keep buying one or two of these every month instead of bothering with Amaysim which costs $3, $60, etc? Or do you have to port a number away from Boost, before you can activate that same number on the next Boost SIM? (If so, this is why I don't port. I buy something like the $5 Aldi 12 month SIM, or Amaysim $15 per year "As You Go" plan, for incoming calls. My permanent number ports to and stays on one of those. Then I make outgoing calls using whatever Cashback SIM is available.) Or is it because you want to stay on Amaysim? If so, why - aren't there cheaper deals coming up all the time?

  • +4

    OP, just a small correction. It's 55GB - not 60Gb.

        Fixed.

  • I clicked the "shop offer" link, instead of going to the buy sim page, i got redirected to the home page.

Pretty sure tracking is broken as I've just bought that specific sim and the order didnt get tracked

    • Clicking through from CR to either the offer or the shop shouldn't matter.
Tracking not working between CR-Boost is something that seems to have plagued them for months though.

Yes TA is great with getting things sorted, but it still means you need to bother to followup with a missing cashback form and then later again when your cashback doesn't get approved.

      • thanks, just got the "Your cashback has been tracked " email

        worried over nothing :)

  • Been with Telstra and tired of the price hikes. Was paying $35 30GB , pushed to $55 40GB then $58 40GB now they say $62 50GB.

People that are on Boost ….
What are the 4G / 5G speeds reduced to?

What happens if you use you monthly data, does it go slow like Telstra (so basically unlimited I guess) and not just no data at all?

E sim, 6 months ago they were looking to intro it soon, is it soon yet?

    Do the have voLTE?

    • What happens if you use you monthly data, does it go slow like Telstra (so basically unlimited I guess) and not just no data at all?

      Just runs out of data.

      Do the have voLTE?

      Yes.

    • read the FAQ table that bargainsgrabber worked so painstakingly hard on (included in deal post), it solves most of your queries :)
Speeds - Link on dot point 2
Data- no data at all as it isn't referenced in the CiS
      Esim - Dot point 3
voLTE- should probably contact support as it'd help answer your question faster from technically knowledged people

It's amazing to see so many people didn't bother read beyond the first line in the description.

        • It’s amazing to see so many people? What do you mean by th… ah!… you mean that with Boost Mobile 5G, your video calls are crystal clear!

        • I read it and it doesn’t answer my questions.

E sim. 6 months ago they were looking into it, that’s it. Data speeds after limit used, no mention. voLTE..no mention.

    • +1

When you run out of data you're cut off…

      No Esims yet I believe…

VoLTE works fine, using it at the moment up at Mount Augustus in remote W.A.. (only activated it on my phone today to be able to make a call in a 4g only area)

      • Thanks.

That’s a pain with data then. I guess that’s going to slow my move away from Telstra. Bugger.

    • Sooner or later they will have to offer eSIM, the next iPhone model in Australia will probably be no sim traylike in the US, eSIM only.

      • +4

It would be great if no one offered eSIMs then. (It would be fun to see Apple sales in Australia plummet.) ;-)

When I first bought a smart phone I couldn't decide between iOS and Android. I made the right choice because it seems like every iPhone "improvement" I hear about since then leaves me wondering why people tolerate them. i.e. There's no reason NOT to include a SIM slot, just as there was no sensible reason to remove the headphone socket… except of course they wanted to sell more of their proprietary overpriced and inconvenient products. The idea of having ONLY wireless headphones meaning they'll go flat and be unable to be recharged while working/riding a bike/jogging/etc - but "Oh but you can still buy an inconvenient adapter that will snap off/ruin the phone socket to use wired headphones…" (after citing space and convenience as their reasons) is stupid, arrogant, and dishonest. I bet if I pulled apart an iPhone there'd be plenty of room for that "bulky" headphone socket. But keeping a 15 cent socket doesn't sell multiple pairs of few-hundred-$ PITA rechargeable ear buds that need to be renewed as the batteries degrade, or else buy 2, 3, etc pairs, to play more than 1 or 2 albums.

    • +1

No remaining data = it just cuts you off/stops working.

And the only way to see how much data you have left is to install their phone app, which also requires the SIM being inserted the phone (at least at first) which is irritating for those of us who use the SIM in a modem. The first few days I had to switch the SIM from the modem to the phone every time I wanted to check I wasn't about to run out of data (so I still had internet access to activate the next SIM as the first one got close to running out of data). But I noticed last night their phone app now shows data remaining without the SIM inserted!? No idea why or how it changed.

      • All my active and expired sims appear in the app even though they've never been used in the phone, and more often than not I'm using the app via wifi… (most these free sims I use in a wifi modem)

I think I'm signed into the app using my Tel$tra login details…

      • Thanks for that.

  • Thanks OP

    Are these sim deliveries tracked?

      Tracked Letter via AusPost

    • Zip: $19 instantly on $15 purchase.
Avoids 1 month wait for cash back here!!
(CR cashback on SIM bought 23/4 arrived on account today. SIM wasn't activated)

Downside is you need to accumulate cashback of at least $20 with Zip, before can withdraw.

      • smarta$$es wont buy 1 they'll buy at least 5 IMO

        • When I pointed out that restriction in Zip Deal, smarta$$ suggested buying 20 to receive $380 back😉

          • +1

@INFIDEL: I think boost will prevent that, from past experience seems like ~ 10 sims a month is max for me . (boost just wont process orders after a certain order numbers)

            • +1

@USER DC: That was my response to their comment. Think it was more of a joke

              • @INFIDEL: I had planned on buying at least that many but now they've changed the T&C's to minimum $30 purchase.

Someone in the Zip thread said they'd bought 53 so far.

                • @wavesgreen: They ruined the party, and that’s why we don’t have nice thing.

            • @USER DC: Do you mean their website won't sell the 11th SIM to you, or that their reps won't process the 11th activation manually over the phone, (or something else)?

        • -1

But dont you have to activate within 30 days of purchase so whats the point of buying so many

  • Tempted to go back to Boost. Felix reception has been shit in comparison

    • Mine was the opposite. I'm on the look-out for any discounted/free felix offers in the future, it was a breath of fresh air.

      • Ah really? I've tried sydney metro and up north, was noticeably worse whuch surprised me. where are you?

        • It just depends on the towers in your area. Both vodafone and Optus have towers close to me with clear line of sight, Telstra is further away and obstructed.

  • How does “using this as a recharge “ work? I am currently have a boost plan expiring 01/12/2023 with 60g remaining, does that me I will have 115g remaining and expiring 29/12/2023? Thanks.

    • Because of the way using a starter pack to recharge works, I strongly suspect you'll lose the first block of data. Better to "make a friend" on here (or buy a plan for another person in your family), gift your data to them, then get a Boost rep to use your new starter pack as a recharge switching your phone number over (read point 12 at top of page). Once that's all working friend gifts the data back to you. And you do the same for them/family member but probably on a different day is safest.

      • are you saying if I am currently with boost, i can buy this SIM card and active it by keeping my existing number?

        • If you are a new user, when it arrives in the post you activate it, and during that process you can either select new number, or enter your current phone number to port it over. If you have an existing Boost number, the OP mentioned recharging your existing number using this deal at point 12.

Note: Offer has been extended till tomorrow (24/5/23) 11am.

  • Question?

Does Boost send out an activated SIM card or can I grab one from the servo and use a voucher to activate this???

Will need to do this tonight

    • Boost don't provide vouchers. When activating the sim you enter all the details from the packet. That's it. Presumably each sim is sold against a specific customer.

      • Thanks
Was hoping I would or could get it working tonight. Probably take a week for them to post it out to me….

        • I am also in WA and they typically take 7-8 calendar days to get to me from time of payment.

        • Oh I see now what you're asking. Yeah you'd have to activate the actual SIM they mail out in order to get the cashback, not a random one bought off a gift card stand in a garage, etc.

    • Note the deal says must be activated in 30 days. So the SIM has to be activated after arrival/purchase. There's a "SIM Serial" on the back of each packet which you enter online, then email address, physical address, license/passport number, and payment info IF you enter it (I don't). Then they say to insert the SIM into a device and you'll receive a notification when the SIM is activated which can take up to 4 hours. I've activated 3x SIMs so far and received no notification on the device, only an email.

      • Thanks for the update.
I've ordered one and the cashback has tracked already.
Unfortunately, as mentioned above, by @wavesgreen it could take 7-8 days to arrive…

(Hence the voucher question, so I could activate it much sooner than 7-8 days)

        • +1

Yep I got that when you posted again without me refreshing the page.

I'm considered "rural" and it took 11 days to get their SIM, at least partially thanks to Australia Post only delivering a couple of days a week now. Boost cite the same "x business days delivery" many companies do, meaning if you order on the wrong weekday your delivery can span two weekends adding 4 unnecessary days. e.g. Order on a Friday as I did and get 11 day delivery due to two weekends (4 extra days).

  • Thanks OP. Tracked in under a minute.

  • Anyone know if I still receive calls and texts for X amount of time if I don't recharge on Boost Mobile?

I tried Googling it and I could only find:
"How long do I not have to recharge before my number expires?
Your number will expire if you do not recharge your number for 6 months."

  • +1

Hey guys. Boost has advised us that cashback on this SIM needs to revert to the standard $5.50 from 6pm tonight (Wednesday 24/05/23). So just a heads up for those wanting to make late purchases before the offer ends. All the best.

@HamBoi69 or mods, please update the post accordingly. Thank you :)

    • Cheers TA! Have updated.

      • Thank you :)

    • Thanks for being on top of things, great service!

    • I ordered one Monday night. The cashback was tracked straight away. But haven't got any update on delivery. Any idea how long it takes? Thanks

      • They generally post out within 48hrs, you don't always get a shipment email. They send via Tracked Letter with AusPost, out of Sydney iirc, so calculate that for your area.
