Not the best VPN in market. Cannot buy India subscription of youtube nor Netflix Turkey. May be I am not doing right thing. Can some some link the thread thread where I can get step by step process for those?
    Thanks

You are basically getting paid to buy the product. But I’d be careful, as usually when the consumer isnt paying for the product, the consumer is the product.

      • My thoughts exactly, but most things already have all my info, though I'm still debating on doing it lol

        • +1

I've used Surfshark for a year and its crap as per OP. All the deals that OzBargain requires a VPN to get you can do through TunnelBear for free.

What’s the difference in paying $100 for a VPN or getting VPN for free… I think all VPNs are owned by China anyway.

        • -1

""I think all VPNs are owned by China anyway.""

          Please explain?

        • +4

When people receive a service, they usually expect to pay for it. Maintaining servers and infrastructure for VPNs costs money, and when you are an organisation like NordVPN (its parent organisation also owns Surfshark) that provides servers in upwards of 50 different countries, with a conservative estimate of at least 50 nodes in each country, that's 2500 different IP addresses, and possibly 2500 different servers that they have to pay for. On top of that, there's a myriad of other expenses they have to pay for like management, marketing etc. With such expenses why would they just give away 3-year subscriptions for free + give you additional money?

There are VPNs that are available for free that don't charge you money upfront, but they make their money back through other means, an example is BrightVPN. They let you access their VPN but in order to do so you have to basically (in simple terms) share your internet connection with random strangers that could possibly do very bad things with it.

I think all VPNs are owned by China anyway

Surfshark is registered as a business in the Netherlands. But honestly you can never really know.

For the truly paranoid, some alternative VPN providers with a better reputation and higher transparency are probably IVPN, Mullvad and cryptostorm (purchase with cryptocurrency if possible)

          China? That's worrying

Turkey Netflix worked fine for me when I did it with Surfshark.

      • Yup, me too. Also Argentinan YouTube music worked fine.

Regarding your VPN connection to INDIA,
This VPN using 4 different connection methods which are selected automatically based on the server speed. sometimes the servers are mixed up and when you connect to india it will go to UK instead or somewhere else. in order to solve this, you'll need to go to VPN settings and connection type and try one by one, usually it is set to automatic (wireguard) which is recommended as fastest. so keep changing it until you are sure connected to INDIA server.

to check which server you are at, you should try first connection then go open your browser as incognito or private browsing (depending on browser you use), then go to google home page, and at the bottom left corner it will tell you where will it recognize you (Note, IP address check doesnt always work with google, that is why different connection settings should be tested).

      • have been seeing the same issue and hopefully this guide would help!

Not being able to buy Indian YT is not because of VPN but because of Modi, never going to work unless you have an Indian CC.

    • Use Urban VPN desktop version which is free but not the app. I was able to get Turkey Netflix and YT premium from India.
I'm using surfshark for my Hotstar Disney plus account with no issues.

      • I tried renewing my YT a/c but RBI regulations now, does not take any Aussie cards, tried with Wise no luck either. Spoke to my brother in India - tried to purchase with his card - no luck. Can any1 help to get it through Turkey for me. I have Surfshark VPN but it redirects payments to Euro or Pounds. Any help would be appreciated.

    • Same with YT Music - had an a/c past 4 years - Thanks to OZB, now I tried renewing with new card as old expired and no go, also tried Wise and (Indian Card - money refunded back) still does not proceed. Someone can help plz

The website is running a huge discount coupon that will automatically be applied when checking out. and the couple is not listed on ShopBack. So, remember to use the coupon listed in ShopBack.

    • Hoping I did things right as I have not received tracking notice yet…..

      • +2

It may take awhile, if didn't track, we can ask for a refund, within 30 day period

    • +1

I think I just fell into the same trap. You need to not click on the massive get discount button, which only then applies the shopback code. I think this is pretty shitty from both parties

      • +1

And usually we can edit coupon at the checkout page, but this time , you need to edit check coupon in the home page before adding to cart.

    • I have messaged the REP to confirm. I will most likely just cancel and get a refund, cant see this being honored

    • my concoern is, would using the huge discount coupon ending up waiving the cashback away?..

    • Yep, very bad. Click via shopback and it's prefilled with a non-trackable coupon code.

I carefully removed and added "shopback" in which is supposed to give an 83% discount (but only gives 81%) and processed through the rest.

Worse yet, I think if any of the pages are refreshed it re-inserts the default code and overwrites the shopback one. Can't find any record of what code was used for the purchase.

I've now requested a refund via https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/requests/new as I don't want to miss out on the tracking on this if it has somehow kept the wrong code.

      • This is on my final bill
        VAT/Sales Tax 10% $5.98
        TOTAL $65.74

What's yours , I also used the shopback code

        • Mine is the same.

The support folk confirmed that my account codedid come through as "shopback" so it should track so I haven't refunded it. Their website defaulting back to their non-tracking code is what threw me and got me worried. Hasn't tracked yet, but think it should in a day or two.

        • Mine was around US$59.
Changed the country to US, so no GST to be paid

        • Something wrong there. You need to buy the 2 year subscription I suppose. I paid $99 for 2 years and got a confirmation from Shopback for $92 .So technically $7 for 2 years - Turns to $0.30cents a month. Thanks OZB & Shopback ☺️

  • Should I use different card or the old card will work for the payment? I have tried with old card, did not work. Looks like need to order new credit card.

  • +7

Beware, I used multiple VPNs, and so far SurfShark was the worst.

Constant IP leaks and occasional disconnects during the night leaving you unprotected.

    Their customer support is abysmal.
Their solution was - just turn off the antivirus and not use it. LOL, OK :D

In my experience, out of those that offer cashback Nord was much better. I am fully aware they are owned by the same parent company now.

I simply stopped using SurfShark and wouldn't use it even if they paid me simply because it doesn't do what it suppose to be doing.
Its effect was to make my internet a little slower providing no credible long-term protection.
it is like paying to have slower internet :smh:

    • +3

Agree, also you need to jump through hoops to cancel the auto-renewal, and they send you frequent notifications to turn it back on. Not to mention the anti-virus bloatware in their windows app.

      • +2

Never use VPN provider software. Always use the openvpn or wireguard clients.

        • ""Never use VPN provider software. Always use the openvpn or wireguard clients.""

Care to explain to me exactly how to do this?

Is this open vpn and wireguard separate stand alone apps?

          thank you

          • @grog: Openvpn is definitely the most common, and plenty good (for those techy out there the new data offload has greatly increased throughput!).

Most VPN providers will give you openvpn config files you can download.

You can download the openvpn client here, install it, and then load up the config file. It has a little system tray icon that you can use to connect and disconnect.

            https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/

      • How do you actually cancel auto-renewal? Just signed up and it shows on but no way I can see on how to cancel it?

        • +1

Chat with the bot after logged on with your account to cancel auto renewal

          • @eecchhoo: Thanks that worked. Quite annoying you have to open a chat with a bot to cancel. No actual way to just change it as an option.
Admittedly it is in their FAQ now that I checked that though.

    • SurfShark is for people trying to watch content from other countries or use the tricks to get subscriptions in Turkey/India etc. Any of these companies that spend megabucks on advertisement should not be trusted if you actually care about privacy

People actually concerned about logs, IP leaks etc are going to use a Mullvad, IPVN, Proton etc

      • It's about levels of privacy.

If you're downloading "Linux ISOs" you're probably OK. If you're selling supersonic missiles to China, you probably need something better.

  • basic question as never used earlier. can i use this VPN in my android tv? or can be used only in mobile or laptop?

    • You can install in your android tv from play store. If the app is not available you can sideload as well.

  • +3

No good VPN is gonna have a deal like this

    • With more and more comments I'm thinking the same thing, i still couldn't resist though lmao

      • +2

and so many youtubers I watch have surfshark sponsorship with like only 30 percent off too haha

        • I don't think I've ever seen them at full price, not sure if you know the brand myprotein, but it's kinda like them. I'd never buy from them unless they are at least 45% off!

          • @ignited141: yeah lots of companies do it, frankly I am very concerned about the more 'established' brands and the ones that have been around for a while that do these things very frequently. Upstarts need to get themselves in the market so it makes more sense.

  • +2

Can we select US location and pay without 10% GST. I believe shopback wont pay GST part of cashback. Anyone tried and successful?

  • Hi guys,
while i am checking out, it asks me if i would like to purchase the Surfshark One bundle including antivirus scan and such.
Will i also got 105% cash back for the additional bundle as well?

Has anyone test it while surshark was offer 98% cashback?

    • +1

Would not risk it- in shopback extra notes it says- "Excludes taxes, fees or additional extras"

      • thanks Majesty29, never know where to find and check the tricky notes!

    • agree with majesty29 , 95% that you wont get the cashback

  • another question, can one shopback account been used multiple times on purchasing surfshark, and still get eligible cashback? i would like to buy a few more account for my friends and families if so.

  • previosly (3 years ago) i signed up to surfshark vpn using my shopback and got the rebate etc.
now my "brother" wants to do the same
if he has a different email, name etc but uses my credit card (ing so no international fees) (new card number etc from years back)
will my shopback account still get the 105% cashback or is it only NEVER used before SB?

    • Different email is fine, i have created 2 accounts, both tracked

  • +1

Is there any out of pocket with the currency conversion between what being charged by surfshark in usd and shopback cashback?

  • I tried this. Couldnt get access to bet365 on website or app. Couldnt get foxtel streaming of football on foxtel go.

  • +1

Just signed up a few days ago when it was only 98% Cashback. It's over for me, lads.

  • +1

How does it make money if they rebate more than the sales proceeds?

    • They don't pay the Cashback, it will get rejected, and will say you clicked on another affiliate link, shop back is a dodge company

  • -1

Haven't heard good thing about this VPN from a friend who uses this. He had complained about the VPN connection to be spotty, taking quite a long time to connect, the windows app being not reliable, servers being removed frequently without notification and the list goes on and on. Wouldn't recommend this based on what I have heard

  • I assume that not using any coupon/discount is better? The more you pay the more profit of that 5% you are getting right? Although a very small amount.
Assuming the cashback tracked of course, but there is still a safeguard of 30 days money back.

    • However, no idea if the GST is part of the cashback-able, and also no sure if there is transaction fee applied?..

  • Signed up with US as the location to avoid tax bit, yet to receive any shopback confirmation tracking the sale.

    • My cashback tracked at $92 too… after paying ~$90.

  • How many years is this plan for.

  • +1

Not sure all the hate for SurfShark. Been using on my computer and phone for a couple of years and its been fine. Connects fast and you can select different countries if need be.

Even use the provided DNS server on my Samsung TV to view sites blocked by my ISP and works fine.

I do though need to take that back off when i want to view Kayo for example.

  • Does anyone know if this the correct set up for cashback to work? I couldn't figure out a way to deselect the discount on the 24 month plan, even though I clicked through from the ShopBack website.

    • That's exactly how i signed up but instead of Australia i chose Bahrain to avoid gst and paid $90 something.

      • Got cashback tracked or not ?

        • Yes I did, paid $90 something and it says I should get $92 back by 08/08 pretty happy so far.

          • @Groovyuvi: I got $90.49 ex GST….so the 105% should be calculated on that which is what I assume that you have also. That means that the cashback should be $95.01

My cashback has also tracked $92.10…so where's the $2.91 that's missing? We are being short changed! It seems to be miscalculated at just under 102%

  • just signed up.

    waiting for shopback confirmation

i have used surfshark before and it works fine,

  • +3

Had Surfshark for over 2 years from a previous deal. Not sure about other people's experiences, but it worked fine for me with very good speeds and really good 24/7 customer service the two times I needed it. Things were solved in minutes.

My only complaint was that it stopped working for Turkey when i was signing up for YT Premium more recently towards the end of my subscription so I didn't renew. However, I will now as this is better than free and based on my previous experience with them, it's a no brainer for streaming.

  • is this rebate only applied to the first month bill? or for the whole subscription period?

    • It is charged yearly, so full rebate

  • Cashback did not track properly for me on this.. have been fighting for months. Cashreward worked perfectly on Nord.

  • Will paying in USD still allow cashback to be tracked?

    • it did for me.

  • Thanks OP! My last surfshark plan had expired a few weeks ago, just signed up. Hopefully it tracks now.

  • +2

Just received the tracking email. Paid $90.43, cashback $92.10. Free 24 months VPN + profit $1.67. Can't complain.

    • which country you selected when you paid? i believe if we select australia then we have to pay 10% gst which wont be tracked as CB.

      • Country: US. Paid in USD using card with no transaction fee.

  • Which vpn best to go for ?
    Surfshark - 105%
    Ivacy - 90%

Or any other ? Can wait for their deal to be published on CB or SB.

    • Have used surfshark for the last 3 years no issues unlocking streaming services from India etc. This is why I signed up again.

  • Paid aud$159.01 tracked aud$147.20 is it correct.?

    • GST doesn't receive cashback so yes sadly

    • did you selected extras as well?

    • Why $159, mine was around $90(without tax) did you use the code SHOPBACK?
Guess if its tracked, shouldnt be a problem

    • No it's not.

Assuming $159.01 was inclusive of GST then the ex GST amount would be $144.65

105% of $144.65 is $151.88 which should be tracked in Shopback. The tracking is short changing you $4.68.

This is not tracking at the correct rate.

  • We can change the country from Au, to US in the last page, and skip the GST.
That should be still ok for Shopback to pay in full right ?

  • I’d get something else tbh - I couldn’t sign up to YouTube premium, Google drive through this ended up using a free one called urban vpn to get it done. I use it for torrenting now only to get some use out of it.

  • So if my calculation is correct, you profit $4.57?
Can anyone confirm that has proceeded with purchasing via the 105% cashback?
