I saw this one as well but chose the other one to post which ended up a disaster. Good luck with this one.

  • +3

    Shows $55 for me.

  • +2

for me it showed available from 32.75 but it wasn't in the list to add to cart then after a few refreshes it said available from 55 then appeared on the list for 32.75 and I bought it. kinda weird but got one.

    • +1

I'm getting the same issue. no luck showing 32.75 as the add to cart option though.
edit: after many refreshes on desktop browser with no luck, tried the app on my phone and the 32.75 price showed up in the 'compare other sellers' list and i was able to add to cart/buy.
order currently showing as 'delivery date pending' which I don't think i've seen before on amazon, hopefully it doesn't get cancelled.

      another update: order cancelled.

  • +2

    Yeah, 32.75 for me.

  • +2

    Can confirm 32.75$

  • +2

    Nope, $55.00 for me

  • +13

The Shapton Pro 1000 is also available from Amazon JP for $45.11, though it's bugged and can show $62.46. It's a 'splash and go' stone that doesn't require soaking in water.

    • +2

Thanks have had this in my list for a while, went and grabbed it at that price!

      • +2

Yeah I went this way as well. The shapton is def better than a basic king, even if only a single (but the most useful) grade.

    • Cheers, got one

    • Cheers, ended up buying shapton

    • Anyone got a link?

      • this was it https://amzn.asia/d/eVhMJ7W

It's no longer showing Amazon Japan as a seller however

        • +1

It is for me, just ordered, thanks!

        • +1

I can add it to cart for $42.88

  • +1

Same as @tophern, I refreshed a bunch of times, at first it was only showing $55, then it showed $32.75 as the lowest price but it didn't appear in the list of other sellers, then eventually it did appear in the list and I was able to order

  • +2

Never mind refreshing worked for me. Cheers OP.

  • +2

Time to sharpen my Kmart knives.

  • +1

Yup, worked after refreshing a couple of times, thanks @tophern

  • +2

Bought. Never used stone before. Hope learning curve not too bad.

  • +1

would 1000/6000 be all I need to get started with sharpening a knife I bought while in japan? (non stainless santoku)
no major wear, just haven't sharpened it for almost 5 years now 😅

    • +1

It may take you a bit of time on the 1000 to touch up 5 years of use, but after that, assuming you sharpen every few months, the 1000/6000 would be a great combo.

For a while I was touching up my knives every couple of months on a Shapton Pro 1000 + Shapton Pro 5000 and only recently got a 12,000 more for fun than anything.

  • Damn, can only see $55

  • WasBargain'd.. 😭

  • am i missing something here do i need to select the .jp amazon site because it comes up all in japanese for me unless i change to english.

    • Refresh the page, should see 21 sellers, go to sellers list with lowest $32.75 from Amazon prime JP.

      • I see it say 21 sellers for 32.75, but when I go into the list it isnt there

  • +9

Chef here with a ton of stones and knives. 1000/6000 is a good 'one and only' stone for home usage, but the reality is that you'll often need a 300-600 stone for stuffed knives and you'll never use the 6000 for basic home use. If you can find an 800/4000 that would always be my pick

I think it's actually sold out now. Can't add to the cart even when you can see it.

Edit: I made a dodgy video of me trying to add it to the cart. I think the reason it doesn't work in the end is because it's sold out. This is the way I've gotten most of my Amazon JP items.

    • +1

      video helped me heaps! thanks!

      • Glad it helped someone. 😀

It was a bit of a pain to make and I was honestly a little peeved that I got the can't add to cart error. Ultimately though it does show what I do, and do consistently to add all of these Amazon JP items to my cart. I don't know of other tricks outside of using a browser though.

I did also learn how to capture screenshots/videos of the desktop so that was really good. (It took ages to finally get it to work. Had to install new software as the old program kept crashing)

  • what's so good about this one? there are plenty of 5000/1000 ones on ebay for like $20

    • +1

These are made from cheaper materials that degrade quickly or need to be flattened more often. They’re not crap but a number of people usually say they wish they’d started with the quality stuff (you have to unlearn a few things, it needs to be replaced quickly, chips easily, etc)

    • Anything cheaper than the KING or Shapton stones are generally a significant drop in quality, meaning it takes longer, is a worse experience and will make it harder to sharpen.

      • -6

yaaaaaa, if you maintain it properly and know how to use one then it really makes very little difference if you have an expensive one…..I will keep my BARGAIN one.

        • +1

Not true, i've owned many different stones and there is a very noticeable difference in quality, speed and ability to sharpen.

    • Also add to this to the other comments that the better quality stones can sharpen harder steel far more effectively. If you have softer steel (52-54 hardness), usually used in cheaper knives, cheap stones do ok.

  • +2

For those looking for guidance in using this stone, I recommend Murray Carter's video See here.
It is catered to razors, but keeping your angle consistent and following it gives a great edge and will shave easily, I've done it.

Burrfection also has a guide on sharpening with whetstones if you want more details on holding the angle etc.

    • Agreed, Murray Carter's videos gave me a great foundation for sharpening.

  • Initially bought for 32 then realize 1000/6000 might not be a good combination for my knives so I cancelled my order.

    Ended up getting a 220 (G-45) + 800 (DX-800) combo for close to $40

    • For people who know what they need it's probably a great time to look through and try to find good deals on Japanese items like these. I don't know if this is an ongoing thing or not. I hope it is!

  • Managed to get one just now for $32.75. But says 4-6 weeks delivery.

    • Maybe you got the one ylbeethoven cancelled on as I can't bring up the price anymore.

      • Yeah possibly, I can’t get it to show $32 anymore either.

  • Bought the Shapton 1000 for 45 instead

  • So who bought one and doesn't really need one?

    • so many people and they probably don't even know how to use it

      • OB does that!!

  • +1

A good stone that handles most knives easily.

I use this one on my super high end JP knives + cheapos down to kiwi level and it work quick and makes them lovely and sharp.

  • Couldn't get this deal but I was able to order separate 1200 & 6000 for $46. 1200 doesn't have a shipping date though… 🤔

    • Seems a good deal. Can you provide the links?

      • +2

Got this one for $22.37 delivered (check the other seller options, may need to refresh multiple times for it to show up as an option to add to cart)

        King Waterstone, 6000 Grit https://amzn.asia/d/7ZYmQ8L

Got this one for $23.70, same deal with the buying options. Also worth noting mine shows "pending delivery date".

        King Waterstone, 1200 Grit https://amzn.asia/d/iHglAh3

        • Thanks. Can't get them at those prices though. Who are the sellers?

          • +1

@EarlyBird: It might not be available at that price anymore, I bought late last night. My order details show Amazon Japan but I'm 99% sure that the seller I chose was thunder Japan (now showing a higher price)
