  • Frozen Lobsters @WA Crays

    so its lobster or crayfish?

    • +2

we call western rock lobsters "crayfish"

      • google says:
Is lobster and crayfish the same?
Lobsters, rock lobsters and crayfish | Western Australian Museum
Despite the fact they have very similar appearances, lobsters, rock lobsters and crayfish do not belong to the same family.

          • @Spendmore: You need to read the part where it says "Common names" in reference to Crays / Crayfish.

The main difference is one lives in the sea (Lobsters) while the other lives in rivers and lakes (Crayfish).

            • @Tiggrrrrr: The link says they are "identified as the western rock lobster".
OP even stated they are known as rock lobsters so his post was correct, in this instance they are the same.

              • @Spendmore: Nope.

Lobsters and Crayfish are both classed as infraorder Astacidea, however Lobsters are from the Nephropidae family, whereas crayfish are Cambaridae, Astacidae, or Parastacidae.

Then there are Rock Lobsters, which are infraorder Achelata. So further removed again from Lobsters and Crayfish.

All three do however belong to the order Decapoda.

So you could say they are all Decapoda. However, thats pretty broad.

For reference, dogs are part of the order Carnivora. Which includes both cats and dogs. And I don't think you are going to argue that a cat is a dog.

Further, lets look at infraorders. Arctoidea is an infraorder containing both Seals and Weasels. Again, Seals aren't Weasels.

@Tiggrrrrr: And yet they are identified as crayfish.
I cant wait for your instalment on tomatoes and how they are actually a fruit.

                  • @Spendmore: Since you like wiki. Here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astacidae

I'm taking your comments to meant that if someone is too stupid to tell the difference between a lobster and a crayfish then using the term interchangeably is acceptable?
                    Good stuff.

                    • +1

@Tiggrrrrr: Im taking your comment as you are too stupid to realise people call them crayfish knowing they arent.

                      • -1

@Spendmore: "people call them crayfish knowing they arent" - I like to give people the benefit off doubt, just like I am assuming you aren't too stupid to use a comma, just lazy.

Anyway, I need to catch a hovercraft. Good evening.
(Yes, I know it's not a hovercraft, but I am calling it that, so it is one.)

                        • +1

@Tiggrrrrr: Hopefully you use that hovercraft to travel and realise the world isnt just black and white…..it would do you good. 😁

                          • -1

@Spendmore: Lol. Ive travelled more than you have.

Travelling rhe globe doesn't change biology.

Wait, you know what? The last time i flew around the world we didn't turn upside down once, so the world must be flat. So if it changes geography, it mist chamge biology as well. Wow. Who would have thought?

                            • @Tiggrrrrr: Haha wrong again, you havent left home yet.
Hey have you heard Moreton bay bugs aren't actually bugs!
Thats sure to blow your little mind🤣

                              • @Spendmore: Yes. I left work and arrived home. And yes I haven't left home again since then. Maybe tomorrow morning. Thanks for your interest in my commute.

Have you heard that Panoploscelis, commonly referred to as spiny lobster katydids or giant lobster crickets, are not lobsters? They're actually bugs!

                                • @Tiggrrrrr: Thanks for proving my point, its been fun.
Enjoy your commute and have a great week.

Hmmmm ….Frozen! Wonder how old they are?

  • +2

Can never work out why in Australia they refer to crayfish as lobsters - they are entirely different species

    • Yes. You never hear someone calling marron or yabbies lobsters. Because they are crayfish.

  • Once frozen forget it….

  • Same price for fresh

Why not just buy fresh and cook it yourself?

Also, 10% off your first order

  • Only 1 qty gets 20% off. If you are buying 5 or more might as well buy the live ones for $24 each.

    • -1

You need to reach the checkout page to see the discount… 20% applies to all frozen.

      • Yeah, why don’t you try to add 5 frozen lobsters to cart and go to the checkout to see whether you get 20% off on one lobster or all lobsters.

  • Yes,buy live ones…now as for the Lobster/Crayfish debate,I fish annually at a remote western pacific island location where a prized dinner food is Crayfish, which is incorrect as they're actually ocean going Rock Lobsters (Tropical Spiny Lobsters). The true Lobster is distinguished by its large claws.Crayfish are freshwater species.
