Just got into knife sharpening recently and had this on my Amazon list for some time. Saw the price went down today thanks to Amazon JP and grabbed one. Heard good things from this so hopefully I'll be good enough to make use of it.

  • Mine shows as $60.65

Is there a specific method to get $42.90 to show?

  • +2

Looks like it expired now. I was still able to get the price by going incognito or clicking "Other sellers", but not any more.

    • Congratulations on obtaining the deal

I have Shapton 8000 from Japan, it's really good

  • I can still add it to cart.

  • Still available.

  • Any suggestion what grit I should use on some global knives?

    • +3

1000 to 2000 is fine for normal use. Anything higher isn’t necessary for most people. Unless the edges are long gone, you usually don’t need anything coarser either.

  • yep just bought one although it shows expired

  • Anyone have suggestions for a flattening plate for this?

    • Atoma 140 or equivalent diamond.

Other "flattening stones" don't work on hard ceramic. Something's gotta give for splash and go convenience. Alas, it's our wallets.

Or if you don't have to dress up many stones, sandpaper on a flat tile/glass works to some extent…

      • Jeez that thing is like 4 times as much as the stone itself.
