That does the vacuuming all by itself.

      • -1

A $500 one does that as well?

        • +1

Not as well. I have a mid-end eufy, looking to upgrade to an S7 or S8 Ultra/Maxv

          • @ThadtheChad: i have a $500 one and it picks up 99% of all dirt and self empties, i don't think this would make a noticeable difference

            Pretty much just marketing hype.

    • -1

Could say the same for iPhones…at least this has more functions.

  • +1

Waiting for a deal on the S5 Max… Common bargainers and site reps hook a brother up

  • +4

S8 Pro Ultra just got released, so although cheaper, it’s the old model…

    • +2

The S7 MaxV seems to have better cleaning performance based on a few YouTube reviews.

    • Price comparison ? What's the suction 5100 vs ? Thanks

  • +4

We have young kids and this vacuum changed our lives.

I know there is a new version out but this vac is perfection.

    • +16

      this vacuum changed our lives.

As a result of buying this vacuum my wife came back to me and I reconnected with my kids. I got a promotion at work and i won $100k on a lotto ticket. Best vacuum ever!

      • +2

        I'll name yours Midas

    • +2

Massive time saver and also makes for a cleaner and less dusty home for our kids. The amount of dust in our s7 self empty bin convinces me it definitely is better for dust and our asthma control than me pulling out the Dyson once in a while.

    • +11

It is the perfection bought 2, changed my life too, both wife and gf are pregnant.

  • The new Dyson Robo Vac states it’s 6x more powerful than most robo vacs

    • +3

But that can't mop I guess

      • +1

And no self empty, which is definitely going to be a PITA

        • If there was a self emptying bin…it may be bagless from Dyson

    • +2

Dyson never published it's suction power yet makes its claims. What's inside is similar to the V8 stick, so… I think Dyson is comparing against 3 year old models

    • More powerful suction does not mean a better clean, and there comes a point of diminishing returns on that anyway.

Th Roborock has self empty, mopping, mop pad cleaning making it significantly more convenient plus it has proven navigation/obstacle avoidance and it’s cheaper.

The only enticing thing to me about the Dyson is their solution for edge cleaning but there is only 1 small corner in my house that my Roborock misses and I’ve yet to see the Dyson in action in that regard.

Maybe in a couple more generations of robots the Dyson will be competitive.

    • Choice reviews says it’s not as powerful as other brands.

    • At one point in time Dyson’s website implied that James Dyson invented the brushless DC motor. Here’s a link quoting the now deleted source. He did not. I wouldn’t trust a thing Dyson says.

  • +1

Tempting. Can resist looking at that price 😂

    • Have been waiting for years LOL

  • Anyone know if you lose much functionality using these offline and just controlled through Home Assistant?

    • +3

I remember a YouTube video looking at what functions didn't work in 'offline' mode and from memory the roborock was a bit better than some other smart vacuums… At least it now has a HA integration: https://rc.home-assistant.io/integrations/roborock

I will edit the post if I actually find the damn video… I too want to do HA integration and would like it as offline as possible.

    • +3

I think the map is saved locally so you could control directly from HA I believe, but you'd lose video feed and object ID etc I guess. Not too bothered being online but integration says requires online only for initial setup. I just set mine to vacuum when occupancy is 0, set and forget about it…. minus refilling/emptying tanks.

      • Thanks for that, that doco was quite informative. It does go on to say that you can’t block internet from the device yet, but they’re working on it.

        • Ah I missed that. Glad it's supported locally as previously had to integrate via Alexa skill which was a real PITA.

          • @sini180: Oh that does sound annoying! Did it work with Xiaomi Miio integration?

    • I have an s5 max.

      Two things I noticed
      - Cant control mop flow
      - Cant repeat segments (the option is there but it doesnt work)

  • +10

For anyone buying this, you can get the mop head dryer from aliexpress for about $80 which is helpful down cold Melbourne days when the mop doesn't dry.

    • +1

That’s the same as what’s built in on the S8 Pro Ultra yeah?

  • +1

    Prefer no camera
Anyone tried installing custom robovac firmwares?

  • +1

This is a great deal. Vacs are not like iPhones, and if they are only one generation older, it will still go strong for a few years. This model does everything.
Dyson can go and get F*ed for putting out that embarrassing robot vac and asking for $2500.

    • -2

2nd gen model perhaps …..after they see how the mopping feature of Submarine model on handheld.
And then 3rd gen, Dyson will implement self emptying bin, with touchless emptying.

  • Just seen the specs and learned that you can use this to one way walkie talkie with video

  • Oh man, at this price is so tempting, considering we are very close to EOFY, there might be better sales…fingercross..

  • +1

Been using roborock since 2016, gen 1, gen 2, now this. I don’t think any robo vacuum is a match. Well except my wife but charging time is too long.

    • Haha I've got a S7 plus. Absolutely love it after having the iroomba S7+. You can't even compare it the way the Roborock cleans. At least I can see and follow on the app to see what its done around the house. Great to see the Max is coming down in price

  • +6

If you can afford this product in your life then I highly recommend it. For me I live in a single story home 2 adults and only have carpet in 3 bedrooms. Haven't needed to get the vacuum out since I got it weeks ago! No more dedicating a weekend cleaning and I have my weekend time back :)

  • I have a black rug and the S5 thinks it is a cliff so it won't clean it. Does anyone with an S7 have this issue? TIA.

    • +1

My s7 is much better with the rugs where old one did the same as yours

  • Have anyone try to this use vac with Mi Home app?

  • Unfortunately only available in store and no stock available in Sydney…. But a great deal if you can pick up

  • -1

Available at Costco online for $1499.99 atm

    • Different dock

    • It’s not the same.

What a shame that there is no stock available at JbHiFi in Sydney

      • Thanks for pointing out.

  • Seems to have been ozbargained. Link no longer working.

  • How is this brand compared to iRobot,

I still have iRobot 800 series which lacking in map feature so it randomly hits things hence dont use it ask much
I have the iRobot mop which I uses it nightly in the kitchen for 2+ years now.

  • I went to Carindale store after checking the availability but the store staff told me they didn't have it and the stock availability wasn't correct…

    • Haha I did the same but they told me someone bought it earlier in the day
